Wasn't that "geek fest" in London? I remember reading that and wondering what kind of event it would be. Imagine, sitting around with a dozen people you know only from posts and screen names.
MacAztec, I know what you mean. When something is announced (i.e. new iPods), I don't even bother posting because by the time I finish typing mine, I'm 5 friggin' pages behind. I still remember seeing the first thread on the PowerMac G5. It was, like, 23 pages or something. amazing. Now, anything new gets an astronomical number of posts. Arn's going to have to invest in some Xserves.

Striking resemblance, wouldn't you say? In fact, it is exactly the same computer as the "PowerBook Duo"...
An obvious fake.
Nope, sorry. Look at it opened up and compare:
http://www.vaio.sony.co.jp/Products/PCG-U3/Images/wallpaper_pop_04.jpg
The spacing between then thing's edge and the monitor is completely different. I think this would have requried some pretty spiffy Photoshop work to fake the image from this product.
However, I'm not really saying that I believe this yet... I have no proof against it, nor for it. As you all know, we've seen some pretty good fakes in the past.
Only time will tell I suppose :-P

So do you guys think I should go buy one now(tomorrow maybe?) or wait it out. Or I could buy one at costco, so if a new one comes out in 90day I'd be covered.
the 90 day return policy only applies to computers, tv's, mp3 players, cell phones, cameras and the like. game systems are covered for life, so i would be comfortable buying one from costco now. also, should the system break down on you in a month or two years from now or ever, you don't have to deal with microsoft. simply return it and get another. and who knows, it may even be cheaper later on, so you might get some money back (!).

Camino hasn't had a major update in a LONG time. Camino should fold and just start partying a true Aqua port of Firefox to further optimize it on OS X.
Firefox and Camino have alot in common are replecating each others work.

The Mhz myth is true. When Genentech is able to use a dual 1 Ghz Mac to go 5 times faster than their PC counterparts, and Photoshop up to 90 % faster than a Pentium IV 2.53 Ghz on a dual 1.25 Ghz Mac, the myth is true. Even the Athlon 2.6 Ghz is faster than the 2.8 Ghz Pentium IV. In some instances even the 1.6 Ghz Pentium III is faster than the Pentium IV. Mhz has nothing to do with speed. When your stage is 3 times longer, you have to go three times as fast to catch up.
If your Mac is slower than a PC for any reason on the same application it is because the software hasn't been optimized for the Mac. Write the software developer before you complain about the Mac speed. Get them to develop for Altivec. It makes a world of difference.

Shrek, earlier, in a similar situation, you didn't want me to be in your threads.

Why did you say that earlier?

The new one has some improvements in internal layout, cooling, and expandability.
If you do not plan on upgrading the machines while you own them -- then buying on cost alone shouldn't be much of a problem during ownership, since performance is similar.
However, if you plan on doing a lot of heavy optical burning (or see the need to keep optical up-to-date or need more than one), if you see the need a bunch of HDs, or you plan on keeping the CPU up-to-date -- then the newer one may make a little more sense.

OK...I finally took the plunge and bought an entire new system (New Dual 1 gig and a 17" Apple LCD).
I have to say, I'd been holding out for a 19", but decided it was time to buy anyway.
Let me just say that I LOVE this 17" monitor. I like the form factor, I like the brightness, etc. I had been using a dual CRT monitor set up with a 17" CRT and an old 13" Apple RGB, so I booted the 13" and now am using dual with the 17" Apple LCD and my old Trinitron 17" CRT. Side by side, I can't believe how much more I like the LCD.
Personally, this is enough screen real estate for me. In fact, rather than buy the 23", I prefer two of these 17" LCD's side by side. I can't say why, I just like the aesthetic of double monitors, and the separation it provides. It allows me to "group" things that just works for me.
My one complaint about the Apple LCD is that it doesn't tilt forward far enough; it leans back a hair too much for my taste. But, by using a small .5 inch thick piece of neoprene under the back foot, I've managed to tilt it to the perfect position.
Just thought I'd share my review.

Yep, it is the best and most efficient one. FAH stores its documents in the same folder where it installed its app in. So, for the script of mc68k this is in the folder F@H of your own home directory. You can check the progress of the of a WU by typing "work" in the terminal, and "pause" to pause the folding (if you want to do a heavy game or something), and "resume" if it needs to go back to folding after you paused it. These are the only commands you really need for letting it fold. Check out the read me that came with installer script. You can also open the file "FAHlog.txt" in the in the F@H folder if you want to know the progress of the WU.

It's about time. I'm glad somebody has woke up at Apple. By October Intel will have the 4.4GHZ P5 with a 1MB L2 cache and a 600MHZ FSB, so why would anybody want a 1.8GHZ 970?

Hmm...maybe I won't pick it up.
We'll see, I need to put some cash way for OS X 10.5 and iWork '07, so it would be a good idea not to buy it. Maybe I'll only pick up the GodFather..time will tell

Any UK users of Macrumors will no doubt appreciate the irony of The Mail running a 'human concern' story - the UK's most xenophobic, heartless and cold daily rag (think Fox News, but without the limited capacity for any sort of empathy). When they're in China, they're abused and exploited innocent victims of a faceless multinational; When they emigrate to seek a decent standard of living in the UK they become seedy, untrustworthy scroungers seeking an easy life.
Plus, I'm sure you could take a quick glance at major Daily Mail shareholders and see a few businessmen with interests in companies with a less than unblemished human rights record.

I started folding with the G5 home computer for several reasons. First, I leave my computer on most of the time and really like the idea that for pennies I can have an application working on something useful for other people. Since I work in...<gasp>...IT, I also like the idea that processor time there is serving some higher cause.
I also lost a family member to cancer, so there is some small motivation there to see if some cumulative work will help in the understanding of these diseases -- though mortality is part of living....
Another reason? To contribute to the MacRumors Team (http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=3446) effort and earn props for the team.

No WiFi?
I'd take the XBox 360 Premium, + WiFi over an XBox 360 with a bigger hard drive, thanks.
I don't see why XBox 360 owners would be ticked, unless they *needed* HDMI (why does it matter that much? Component is still the same quality). It's just a hard drive upgrade. I'd still buy a Premium if I was buying one today.
Component is more prone to interference and it doesn't have the HDCP token.

Desperately need opinion on possibility of new iBooks! I need a laptop but am willing to wait until January if new iBooks are on the horizon. I won't wait till June or July of '03, however. Do you think it's likely that we will see new books soon or not? Thanks.
