You're not the only one confused. It was definitely there. I started to order 2 PBs today and when I selected the double RAM it was full price. I called Apple and I'm currently waiting for a return call explaining what is going on.

If this nonsense doesn't get straightened out looks like I'm taking a drive to MI tomorrow.

Damn, why can't they just make a new one. We don't need the same game over and over with little cool things added to it.

Probably because many Japanese people didn't get a chance to play it because nobody there bought an Xbox. I haven't owned one, so I look forward to the game.

I have a Mac+ still and there is no way I would sell it. I have sold a Mac IIvx and a G4 Quick Sliver but that was for Money to buy the next Mac (currently a G5 iMac). I gave my Rev-A iMac to a girl I dating at the time.... but I think that was because of her WoW factor.

I hope Apple doesn't attempt to steal it. I'd be happy if they bought them out and integrated it with Tiger. The iSight/barcode reader thing is awesome.

    Fishes,
    narco.

Apple steal it? What makes you say something like that?

And, the iSight reader thing was done by Booxter well before Delicious Library (and maybe booxter weren't even the first - I don't know). Do you consider this theft also? (I don't)

Currently I'm #330 on the MR team #3446 and have only been folding for a year with my G3 chugging away 24/7. A week ago I added my G4 at work and last week my boss bought a new DELL for my PC workstation and I'm going to add that one also. And (but not the last) I'm going to add another G3 I use as a file storage device, as soon as it goes to OS X. So all in all I'll have 3 Macs and a PC doing my folding, so I hope to see myself keep rising in the standings.

PS. I'm a Moderator on the "Prepressforums.com" site and have had my signature with the "Folding@Home" tag on it for a while. I finally got pissed at the lack of response and said so in one of the Threads. I got hammered with replies and a few (don't know how many) even downloaded the software and have started Folding in the last couple of days :D

All I can find is the program Xgrid with some info here http://www.hallogram.com/xgrid/

"The most powerful data bound grid you will ever use, combining the ultimate in database support with the power and versatility of a spreadsheet.
XGrid sets the standard, providing the combining a data grid with superb database access and the power of a spreadsheet application in a single component. XGrid offers Excel-compatibility offering the ultimate in developer control and flexibility while providing a familiar user interface.

Performance is the key factor with XGrid, providing a complex set of functionality but with the streamline use of component technology, achieving the best of both worlds and unsurpassed performance matched by no other product on the market. "

Perhaps Apple bought the company that produces this?

The only thing I could find on the program at the Manufacturers (greentree) site is the press release http://www.green-tree.com/homelinks.asp?page=pressroom
otherwise it looks like maybe they stopped making it.

Okay, this is the last day of September. For those of you who are interested, the new 19-inch (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2002/05/20020531185518.shtml) iMac is rumored for release beginning in October (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2002/09/20020927205304.shtml), so it could come any day now. . .

    EDIT:

    17-inch iMac thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3964)

You know it's funny how everyone seemed to doubt that there would be a 17" iMac back then, and look what happened! :p

AMD will beat Apple anyway. Hammer versions of Athlons are due out early next year to mid next year.

Apple is no longer the "first" to do many things. True they brought UNIX to the desktop, but seriously, how many of those grannies use UNIX? Other than indirectly accessing the extreme stability and such. I, however, congratulate Apple's efforts to "hide" UNIX to the people who don't need it yet expose it to the power users.

It's not about being the first these days. It's about doing it and doing it well.

Some words of advice coming form someone who has 2 years Apple Retail experience.

Don't come off as a Mac geek. That's not what they're looking for. They want someone with a unique personality who finds the products COOL and wants to tell everyone about it from the mom who has no idea what an iPod is to the Mac enthusiast who comes in to quiz you on what you know (like so many here at MR). So just relax, be yourself, and don't come off as a complete geek (not that you do, but it's a mistake so many make).

If this is your only job, you may want to check to see if they are hiring for seasonal, part time or full time. If you're seasonal, you won't be working for Apple come August, since they hire for the Back to School season on a "temp" basis. The pay is ok, but not the best, it's more for love of the company and the discount. Have fun and enjoy it...and yes, say goodbye to posting at MR, unless you keep under the radar and adopt a new identity...

I just read an article on cnet that Intel just did a demonstration of a 4.5 ghz P4 that they overclocked to run at 4.7 stable. This thing looks like it could smoke anything in it's path. Hope Apple is whipping up something special soon...

Maybe my expectations have been too high but the ditching of the crank and even the mention of optional use of Windows is a near-fatal one-two punch for me.

Windows defines software bloat. It seems an unreasonable assumption that the answer to a bloat problem is to run any version of Windows, especially when there are doubtless a lot of potential Linux distros to use (not to mention free use of OS X; Negroponte's refusal on grounds that it wasn't open source is now no longer an excuse with MS on the scene).

Leaving the hand crank aside, the answer to the bloat problem would be to maintain the focus of the device by developing a lean Linux distro that works, not installing Windows CE. I agree that Open Source should remain the defining feature of this project - take that away and it will be the $100 gadget that the Intel CEO predicted.

As I understand it, the issue of using music in your wedding video has nothing to do with breaking DRM, but instead with violating copyright. Even you get the music off of a CD, it would still be illegal.

That was a poor example, I admit. The wedding video situation is fairly complicated, depending on whether you're selling the video (which doesn't seem to be the case) and on the manner in which the song is used. If the song is played in the background by a DJ and it winds up in your video, there's not really an issue. Putting it in in the editing process would fall under fair use for private viewing, but because it's something you're sending out, I can't say off the top of my head whether this is also fair use. You are protected under the law for making mix tapes and CDs, even if you give them away in small numbers. If you make a wedding video and send out two or three copies, I believe this is still considered private viewing. If you send out the video to more than a handful of wedding guests, then you are redistributing and have to obtain permission.

Cubase has implemented a utility called "System Link". It makes 2 machines, Mac or PC, process like one single Uber...thing. It probably only works while running Cubase but you may be able to look into how it works for some ideas.

Very nice idea for an app! I've been doing this by hand until now--one of the first non-photo uses I thought of for the color display.

FYI, it supports MapQuest and MapBlast too.

EDIT: Oops... it's text-only. Guess I'll keep loading the actual maps onto my iPod by hand.
