Dual G5 folding here. Hopefully we will gain some ground when Mac Pro is out ;)
Im curious; has anyone any statistics on how much energy is being used world-wide on folding?
We can only speculate: the number of computers times the normal powersupply times the average uptime of a computer.

sadly, there are still going to be a bunch of mac users using explorer. every time i walk into one of our campus computer labs, there are rows of macs with safari and firefox sitting right there in the dock, but what are all of the kids using? you guessed it. everybody knows the ugly blue E and they think that IE is the internet - there's nothing else.
Until your computer services department decides to standardize on Firefox on all platforms :)

Sorry it took me so long to start folding :(
My PowerMac G5 was delayed by Apple and then creeped like molasses when it finally shipped out from Cupertino.
Anyhow, now my 2.3Ghz DP PowerMac G5 is folding pretty much 24/7. Hope it helps.

I've seen no attempt to quantitively factor quality into all these price comparisions that get thrown around. The build quality on my shiny doors is better than the build quality on any PC I've personally seen since a really nice Intel (yes, Intel) built PC from about '93.
If there's a desire to compare simply on price, then you might as well use a random number generator - it's too much Apple and Oranges.
I remember the storm caused a few years ago when a number of the UK PC manufacturers admitted that a 5% - 10% failure rate was the rates they operated on. I've just witnessed 3 motherboards out of about 15 go "phut" at work - due to design defects rather than going out of warranty as well. So should I conclude that they're good value for money because they are cheaper?

What I can't understand is why you would actually encode something into RealMedia format.
Because RealMedia uses a variety of high-quality audio and video compressors, is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux, and is built on an open-source engine. The Mac player is a free download (http://www.real.com/freeplayer/?rppr=rnwk) and is a Cocoa-based drag-install app designed just for Mac OS X.

.... i'd snag one of those as well.... honestly, how much more would it really cost to add a camera to an ipod? I think it'd be a fine idea... it could also be a total flop.... maybe some type of add on... an optional device.

I still do not understand why Apple has not done something similar, they were soooooo close to releasing it, even had it up for a couple days as a new ?Panther> feature, and then didn't? Must have thought it would hurt .Mac sales, well most everything hurts .Mac sales...it's kind of a waste
so give us Home Pod, or whatever it was called I forget.

exciting but this is going to use A LOT of power, especially with new generations of GPUs possibly approaching 200watts
Watts the problem when you want to be first? ;)
People have been calling for the Cell processor to be used for folding. GPUs obviously have really great floating point capabilities and they can even speed up poor (s)Tinker code dramatically.
Of course, with Vista following Mac OS X in using the GPU for certain effects, that GPU is going to be busy.

It is referred to the HALO effect because HALO got a lot of people to buy the xbox because of the game itself. Therefore products that are entry products and produce synergy purchases are considered HALO effects.
I hope you don't really believe that's where it originated.

Anyone know how much power the Wii draws when on standby with WC24 on. I'm wondering if it's really worth it.

well, you "cheated" apple out of $100 by not returning the printer when you returned the computer.
Why?
Why???
I don't get why people on these forums always need to take something someone does and put a negative twist on it. It just bothers me so much.

And if you look at the number of iPods sold compared to the number of ITMS songs sold, it is plainly obvious this statement is pure bull.
How does that matter? Last I heard, iPods didn't cost $.99. Plus Apple doesn't get $.99 per song, they get roughly $.34. iTMS makes Apple money, sure... but compared to the amount of money iPods make them there is no comparison.
I've said it over and over again, and so has plenty of others... iTMS exists to sell iPods.

Great. :)
You won't be disappointed with ASO.
Thanks, so far since their moving you can only get or I should say sign up for hosting at midnight and I was almost done when it shut down at 12:20am lastnight so I have to wait until tonight and try again. This is only a temp. issue as they have emailed me asap about this. I could wait until Monday, at which time the move should be complete and hosting space for sale won't be put to a limit for each day but I'm ready to take the plunge so midnight here I come :D

The BBC support for Apple comes from their old support of Acorn. Since Acorn closed, they have been supporting Apple as Apple supported Acorn an awful lot.
Useful when you ask around. :)

It's gone on the Canadian Store, but it never did anything useful, the new page was never updated with the smaller outside articles displayed on the ticker.

Apparently they're waiting for the server load to go down a bit before releasing it through the auto update function. Presumably it'll self-update rather than direct you to the site.
Huh? It has nothing to do with HTML or JS, it's a bug in the app itself.
Apparently, the sites I've seen that were corrected, mimicked the problem with bad code.

promise I'm not... just go ahead and mark it... I got the info... it's gonna be awesome. He said they are pretty large chips though.... I'm wondering if this means not in the powerbook for awhile... I'm betting some others were right in saying power4 in the desktops and new MOTO chip in the powerbooks...
either way i'm excited:D
i actually got some good inside info.
he also said he didn't think they would work with winblows(in their current configs) even though they are backwards compatible(run 32 bit as well as 64 bit), but that they were talking about putting them in their linux workstations and such!

Several days before Apple's announced iLife and iWork release, the applications are available for purchase at a cost of $39 each at University Bookstores.
Impressive pricing. I can't wait for apple to include "Cells" in the package and Tweek Mail/Address Book/iCal (Tiger?) so we have a rock solid Office alternative. We're almost there.
