Ok before any more people really seriously think that the first definition was serious, here's the real explanation.
The halo effect is the extension of an overall impression of a particular product or trait of a person to influence the total judgement of the product line/company or person.

Also, I think the iBook will have the G3 (IBM-Sahara) for some time to come....I don't remember where I saw it, but I read how this chip had lots of life left. I can see a FSB increase though....no DDR RAM in any of the consumer (iBook/iMac/eMac) lines for a while.
eBook can't happen since the name has already been taken. However, I can see a 12" iBook with a CD-RW drive selling for $999 once the 13" iBook arrives. Also, a 14" SE model with Better resolution maybe.
Sure, the iBook is aimed at the Student, but I haven't been in school in like 5 years and I actually prefer the size of the 12" iBook to the TiBook. In all fairness, the iBook should be considered a mid-range model...a prosumer model... therefore it needs a G4 processor.
Keep the current G3 12" iBook as the low-end as a CD-RW version only for $999...the reason I say CD-RW is because the iBook doesn't have a floppy...the CD-RW is the new floppy. CD-ROM drives in laptops need to be forgotten at this point.

im glad to see progress is being made with the Open Office project
but as was already said, when will it be aqua-fied and OS X native instead of X11?
Have you tried:
http://trinity.neooffice.org/
It tracks OO fairly closely. Right now it's at 1.1.3. I'm not sure when it will catch up to OO 2.0, though. No X11 required. It uses OS X Java2D and does a good job, especially in the latest releases, integrating with OS X.

I know it's very important to have progress but it would seem people take things to extremes. I know people who are buying PCs and they ask will a 2Ghz machine be fast enough for using Word? It's all just overkill.
Dude,
Congrats on your 500Mhz powerbook, for which I envy you. However, for those of us who don't use a computer solely for wordprocessing, surfing the web, and other less-processor-intensive activities, speed is everything. The difference between 800MHz and 1GHz (or 1.25, which is unlikely) is vast in terms of the number of plug-ins available in audio recording applications like Logic, etc. I'm waiting for Apple to cross the 1GHz barrier in a G4 laptop (and I don't care whether it's an ibook or Tibook anymore, just give me the product!) so I can upgrade my dinosauric but beautiful 450 G3 blue and white powermac (matching 17" monitor, matching bondi 8x QPS cd-r, matching superdrive, matching bondi halogen desklamps from ikea, the whole frickin' deal, hoss...).
So, in other words, "overkill, my arse." Bring on the speed already, apple. duals in a laptop would be great, but won't happen because it will either or both: 1) cannibalize apple's powermac market; and 2) require a bulkier chassis for the powerbook. in light of the fact that apple's only true competitor is Sony's vaio line of sleek and stylish wintel boxes, it would be a surprise if apple ceded the sex factor to Sony by moving away from the TiBook's slickness and slim size. I would expect future versions of the Powerbook to be slim and stylish, not bigger and bulkier. certainly not for the purpose of cannibalizing other, profitable product lines.
But I don't have a crystal ball, either... :-)

What is folding?
Here is the FAQ:http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=21908
It uses only spare CPU cycles so it will not slow down your computer any. It helps study proteins for medical purposes. I would love for you to get involved! :D
Here is a great script made right here in house by mc68k it makes folding start automatically on start up of your machine. So you will not be bothered with it. And then you can check how far it is by typing work into the terminal. http://calnet.sdsu.edu/mc68k/
I hope you will join us!

For responding to an idiotic rumor.
Peter2002: The Itanium isn't a desktop chip, the 970 is. Intel's P5 is no less vaporware than the PPC 970, which has actually been tooled and proto'd.
This article is based on 1 study of broad market trends which apply to Apple as much as broad weather trends apply to Antarctica.
"Analysis of 2002 tropical storms show huge statistical vacuum in Antarctica that guarantees being McMurdo being hit by a cat 5 hurricaine next year!"

With apple going big on design it just wouldn't make sense for them to even consider an external as an option.
An external drive doesn't really require that much research, it's just the same damn thing. Pioneer is probably looking to build the internal for apple, one of their big optical drive buyers.
A couple of earlier Powerbooks have shipped with external floppy drives, i can't remember but i think the 1400 did...
But i definitely think apple will wait to unroll a thin unit rather than external--

You'll still have plenty of fun without the social elements. I personally recommend finding a friend to play with, someone you know IRL, as I really really enjoy that a lot more than when I used to play solo - but it's possible to ignore everyone else in the game and still enjoy it :)

Motorstorm only got an 8.0 in the latest issue of GameInformer, which is the same as it got in Famitsu when it was released in Japan *WITHOUT* online play. Apparently, Motorstorm isn't that great in spite of what all the Sony fanboys say, even when the online factor is taken into consideration. Does anyone remember how hyped State of Emergency was before it came out?? A week after release and nobody wanted to play it anymore because it was so mind numbingly boring. It dropped into the $9.99 or less bins pretty quick. I think Motorstorm will do the same. Sega Rally and Colin McRae: Dirt are better off roaders anyway.
It got a ton of 9+ reviews and one 8.0 so that makes it a bad game?
I think it's great but I wish there were more tracks and split screen play. A poster in another thread mentioned that a racing game without split screen is worthless and I agree!

Sorry but there are 8 or 9 sites posting benchmarks of the new Dual/Ghz/DDR and they all show the new DDR machine faster at about %70 of the tasks given it. All this for $1,000 less then the old dual new.

Also from my personal experience when you start mulititasking several high load apps at once the new Dual blows the old one in the dust.
