at the very least, if you were not a mod, you would be a G3
...and maybe even higher
...my guess is that 604e at the very highest reasonable level is at 15,000, and G3 at 20,000 but i would assume much lower for those levels and maybe G4 is at 20,000
...and G5 at 50,000 or 100,000 since it would be no fun for someone to reach that and have nothing to loook forward to
it could be that G5 is set at a million to make it unattainable:p
note: maybe arn has not decided yet what to give people beyond a 601 and there is no set level for the next level
Maybe one should receive his/her G4 and G5 status 6 months after it is reached in post #'s or, in other words, "announced."
That way, it would be a fairly accurate depiction of market conditions. :D

Quark is getting desperate! Last time I called them, however, I could not understand their technical support personnel because they were in INDIA! No wonder they can "give away" their technical support.

cool interface,
someone needs to work on a guide for installation, at least a general one and then we would see this explode
1st place: thanks to everyone for the compliments.
What do you mean an installation guide? For the hardware?

I think the BBC are blatantly pro-Apple. Take this image accompanying a pretty much unrelated story about search engines (it's on the Technlogy front page rather than the story itself):
http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/images/41549000/jpg/_41549874_apple203getty.jpg
Though ironcally, the iMac in the foreground has a Windows-related page open! And the story, for those interested:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4900742.stm
All that needs to happen now is for Labour to announce they favour Apple too, and then the circle will be complete

Maybe intergrated Bluetooth, but probably not until the next itineration.
Eventually new iMacs and eMacs with single 1 GHz G4s and a 133 MHz FSB. New Superdrives, probably in the Towers first, after they come out. But, NO NEW TOWERS!!! Not for awhile anyway. They JUST started shipping the 1.25s, and January isn't that far away.
Hate to be a buzzkill, and I hope I'm wrong.

If you go to a concert, theatre play, any kind of performance or into any of fee-charging class or course and smuggle yourself in through some kind of backdoor without paying for the ticket or the course, did you steal anything?
Not according to your logic.
Should this behaviour be allowed?
So, what did I steal? Steal: To take (the property of another) without right or permission. Note: I'm no saying whether it's right or wrong, I'm merely discussing whether it's stealing or not. The example you gave is not stealing. I did not take anothers property without his permission.

If you read the article it doesn't say that apple will go to intel... plus IBM is showing life with this 970 Chip, Heck Many Motorola can roll over in its grave and make a faster chip too?
Dare I speak the words of G5! ;)
Remember, you asked for it...
While all the old arguments, as to why it's bad to embrace the Wintel world still stand, it would be like embracing OS/2s fate.
If you're just another compatible machine/OS, why bother writing for the other machine/OS.

Well, let's wait until somone receives one and tells us exactly what chip it is.
If it a new G4, then it may better address DDR RAM. That, and the larger L2 cache, would be worth $500 to me.
However, whether you'll utilize the power is dependent on what you do. Try going to an Apple store, and using their machines with the processor monitor open. Run what you would normally run each day.
If you don't peg out both processors, then you don't need more machine. I always have 20 apps and 25 binaries running on top of the OS, so my processor is usually pegged at all times. I have a full load of RAM, and still get pageouts.
For users who are doing office type work (web, mail, Office, etc.) the Dual 867 should be more than enough. For those working with audio, Photoshop, compilers, or running 24/7 services, the Dual Gig should be fine. If you want to do some rendering, run A LOT of services, are a video junkie, or just need to be the fastest, get the Dual 1.25.
But don't buy anything until we hear some more about what's in the 1.25...

He didn't say it was valid for Intel v. AMD. He simply stated architecture. AMD has its own architecture, which is a RISC chip with CISC emulator as far as I'm concerned. He even compared two AMD chips. Here, the MHz/GHz is a very valid benchmark.
By the way, the 2.8GHz P4 kills AMD Athlon XP 2600+ for normal operations, but AMD Athlon XP 2600+ kills P4 when it comes to rendering with Maya, etc. Different things are superior in either.

My answer depends on what measures Apple had taken to ensure that the company were following Apple's supplier guidelines (ie any monitoring or just laissez-faire) and what measures they take now that lapses have been admitted - both against this company and to ensure that similar problems aren't happening at any other supplier.

Nope... they tried running doom III on a laptop with a mobile ATI 9000 and were actually very impressed. I just wish that the powerbook would switch to rdram or at least DDR... and better processors- motorola sucks. Then the powerbook would really be a fine gaming machine when it gets the mobility 9000 in the next couple-few months.

All the software that you are talking about, can be used with a 32-bit processor. It may be greatly enhanced with a 64-bit processor, but you don't need one to use this software.
Things you need a 64-bit processor for:
-Memory addressing greater than 4 GB.
-Very large hard drives.
-Natively adding/subtracting very large numbers (or very small), in a single cycle.
My guess is that you will first see these processors in high end Power Mac, Power Mac Servers, and xServe. It will be a while before they get introduced to the PowerBook.
Unless. Steve has plans for OS X, that include such massively intensive eye candy that one needs a 64-bit processor to fully render the dock. Or perhaps the next revolution in OS Navigation: First Person Shooter style OS.
I can see it now: "Where's the BFG2000 on this directory, I've got an English Lit paper due in 1 hour.":D
ps. The bit about the First person shooter OS, was sarcasim.

The MS isn't bad now, I saw a 4GB Duo for $69.99 and 2GB ones are always under $75. I have a 1GB one and it has enough room for 3 south park episodes, a movie, and some MP3's.
Come on now ;)
It's hard to get an actual price for a 4gb Memory Stick duo. They range from 20 to 140. Have to just use Aria, since they stock original goods (ie. not eBay)
2gb Memory Stick Duo- 45
2gb SD- 13

when apple almost went out of business, they had a bigger percentage of the market than they do now
when steve jobs brought apple back and things were going good, ten percent of certain types of machines were apple machines bringing our total market share to five percent
dot.com bombed and apple fell behind and now the market share is somewhere around 3.5 percent
...will it get any lower or are the 3.5 percent apple's core constituency that will be a given from year to year?
there are so many users in northern california, apple territory, that will never break from apple and if apple goes down, they would rather run linux than windows
some have suggested that apple can stagnate and just fulfill its fans and never grow but just improve its line from time to time to keep it's core users happy...but isn't that what apple has been doing for umpteen years anyway when bill g took the market into his own hands and laid the groundwork for IT/IS domination?
i just don't want to see motorola get stuck at any speed again for many months on end like it did at 500 mhz...but then again....after 2 ghz or so, who will care about cpu clock speed when other issues like price, video card, ram, bus, cache, and software selection will be the more important "selling points"?
