I wonder how long it'll be until Apple comes up with a fix for this?
iTunes SP2??? I kid, I kid.

On the orange ad? Either I'm blind or it says nothing.
You're right it doesn't say Macbook Pro on it but I also have the ad and the pictures inside and on the back are of Macbook Pros. I was shocked to open up Bradley's school newspaper and find one of these adds sitting in it. It was in every newspaper printed and I've also seen adds posted in the hallways of the dorms.

Controversial. What makes you say that?
Yeah. I'd like to hear more from seabass on this.

I wish it would start off as a still picture, and only start playing if I clicked it.
Exactly! That seems to make so much more sense.

Well i think the rarest would be my_first_name@my_surname.co.uk...
& I got that :D
I also share my surname with a well know british pop star so i get a lot of mail for her_first_name@my_surname.co.uk, & she needs a lot of Viagra apparently.
:eek:I had exactly that problem a few years back, when my legal name was Posh Spice. Luckily, I went to court and had my name changed.

Truthfully, people in the Apple Store know just as much as you and I
Pretty stupid of them to tell you new ones are coming, though, when they would want you to buy one now

Really? I've tried IE each update, and have always switched back to Mozilla. Maybe you aren't using a current version of Mozilla. I really like build 2002101612.
There are 30 some odd programs Apple lists that are altivec optimized. There could be more if we just asked developers to focus on processor optimization more than graphics card optimizations. I'm using a G4/800 iMac 15" model. I do remember Mozilla has a speed issue when the sidebar is showing because it is trying to load so many websites at once. You can disable that sidebar and just use multiple tabs. If using Mac OS 9, yes Mozilla is slower, but if using Mac OS X, Mozilla is much faster.

When there is an update, what is the usual shipping time? For the higher (new) G4s, it seems to be 6-8 weeks. Good grief, that's a long time. I'm willing to wait for October ... but I can't wait 2 months to receive my computer. Any previous experience out there?
Thanks in advance,
Kate

If you are running OS X, Emagic has an OS X version of their program. It is called something like Logic. I have friends in the business, but I do not use music software. Apple now owns Emagic and I think they will do a great job, like they did with Final Cut Pro.
If you run OS 9, both 1 and 2 get high marks from my friends, but not Cubase. Digital Performer is usually the choice for OS 9 or OS X Classic mode. Studio Vision lacks something or does not do as well at it, but I cannot remember what that something is. They really like the Studio Vision interface, however. At $99 it you do not risk a whole lot.

Well it's a bit different when the draw is for turning up at the store. The conditions on your juice bottle a likely there because that product could be sold in other countries than those eligible for entry.Fair point. I know I've won a prize from a US run competition before and there was a lot of red-tape and form filling with me being a non-resident. It all had to do with tax I had to get in touch with the American Embassy to apply for a US Tax number and everything. Maybe it's just more trouble than it's worth for companies to offer prizes of a certain value to non-residents?
Oh, and mpw as a Channel Islander you are of course welcome to enter the juice bottle competition. You might win a Narnia lunchbox if your luck's in. :D

i remember when i was screaming, along with spikey and some others, to kill off motorola and apple connection and go ibm on all fronts...but now, i am not so sure
the new powermacs got a pretty glowing review in the latest macworld and people i know with the pentium 4 sometimes swear the pentium 3 was faster
i think a dual 1.25 ghz g4 is still sexier than a 2 ghz+ pentium 4 any day of the week!
and that includes tuesdays:p

thats actually my point, that the two became thier works, their passions. im not trying to say the two are the same on any other level. no need to apologize either lol
Understood. ;)
In that way you have a point. You could probably add Bill Gates and others into the mix as well.

Yeah I think the iPod would have to be upgraded to a color screen for this to really be worth it, but for the main things an iPod is for a color screen isnt really necessity so I doubt it would happen.

Hmm, have you really used the Archos Multimedia Jukebox? It took to me about 5 minutes to learn the controls. And I'm a computer journalist , so hardly a rocket scientist... ;-)
Obviously, else you might have noticed I didn't say it was hard to learn how to use the controls. What I said was that Archos adopted a fairly arbitrary and uninspired set of buttons for their jukebox with no particular attention to usability. There's a difference between the difficulty of learning an interface and the convenience of using it under real-world circumstances.
I tried out a lot of MP3 players before the iPod arrived, including offerings from Archos. I chose not to get any of them because I didn't like the compromises I had to make in quality, capacity, size, battery life and so forth. The iPod was the first player I found that didn't make me compromise.
4.5x3x1 inches is HUGE for you? I pity your girlfriend! (Ooops, sorry, but I can't resist! ;-)
For something I expect to be able to carry around in my pants pocket, yes that is huge. Perhaps you just have more free space in your pants pocket area than I do.
Well, on this point I haven't anything to object: design tastes are subjective.
That's an easy cop-out, isn't it? You could make a shallow appeal to the subjectivity of taste to argue that there's no substantive difference between a Picasso and a three-year-old child's crayon drawing. But it's the iPod that wins the design awards.
Hem, have you read attently the specifications? The Archos Multimedia Jukebox include the output and cable to see the Mpeg4 *on a TV* with vhs resolution. And it work as a charm, I can assure you!
I read the specs. I already have plenty of ways to show video on my TV.
Beside all this, the Archos Multimedia Jukebox have an integrated microphone, and, being modular, it can be integrated with a camera module that shot photo and REAL TIME ENCODED ***MOVIE***!
And is this ***MOVIE*** you speak of going to compare in any way to the video I can shoot on my existing DV camcorder? Or the pictures I can take with my existing digital still camera? Is there any reason I should believe that this camera is anything but a toy?

I used to use Quark (five years) and then switched to InDesign two years ago. I have never looked back. Does anyone know a designer or art director who went back to Quark? Price and printers are the only two stumbling blocks. Apple knocked down one, now we need to give free copies to printers so they can find out what we've known for years.:)
