I didn't mean now, obviously, as the great majority of Mac users still boot off OS 9. But in 3 years let's say, I would think that 90% or more would be running OS X.

Yes, I do, because that's what all of my PC-using friends have. So I have no choice.

You can still use your MSN Account with Adium (http://www.adiumx.com/), or Fire for that matter, and it offers a lot more features and the ability to customise.

I saw this posted earlier (can't find it easily now).
However, I'd trade the ability to own an iPod and use Google while young for a billionaire father any day. Seems like, sooner or later (sooner, given Ballmer's rotundness), you'd be able to buy all the iPods you wanted.

Out of interest, what does your software do? Is it the OS?
It's an "Operating System" AFAIK. See the slams here:

Hmm...maybe I won't pick it up.
We'll see, I need to put some cash way for OS X 10.5 and iWork '07, so it would be a good idea not to buy it. Maybe I'll only pick up the GodFather..time will tell

Go to JewelCase Preferences in the menu, and at the bottom of the Prefs window is a triangle to show more options--including one that turns off the JewelCase menu.
The menu is still available by right-clicking in non-full-screen mode.
(He didn't want to uninstall, he wanted the extra menu gone.)

I was finally in the market for an iPod recently. I was planning on getting a 5GB iPod after the 20GB was introduced. When I went to the Apple retail store, they had both the original 5GB and 10GB version for reduced prices. They were charging $349 for a first run 10GB iPod, then quoted me $299 for a refurbished model. After that I got it for $269 with a student discount. So I walked out the door with a 10GB iPod for the price of a current 5GB iPod, after taking into account my student discount. Caveat emptor: new technology will be faster or larger with less cost.
I lucked out with my purchase as the Apple Retail Employee wasn't sure he should have given me my discount for ecucation when he did, but since he hadn't heard anything against it, he did it anyway.

thats a 25% increase, which is pretty good, and if they add in some other things, it will help as well. I'm not saying duals is a bad idea, I'm just saying there are a lot of hurdles in the way of such a thing happening any time soon.
And of course, one must also take into account that notebooks are always less powerful than desktop machine equivelents. its true in the wintel world, its true in the mac world.
maybe I'll be surprised and apple will come up out with some big innovations making it possible, but I personally just don't see it.

" In addition, the console is being designed to provide a view of the most recent viruses found on each Macintosh within the network along with the 10 most prevalent viruses."
Ooo, that'll provide whole seconds of entertainment
So is the previous lack of this IT tool the reason my college IT department insisted on taking my PB from me for 12 hours and installing the anti virus software themselves?
It pissed me off to no end. I take it to them and tell them I'm a pretty advanced user, I think I can install it myself. The guy at the desk answers "yeah but we have to do it"
me - "why?"
them - "because you can't do it on a Mac, we have to do it"
I let it go at that. I was always told it wasn't proper manners to harm someone you've only just met. I'll find him later in the year...
*cough*
Excuse the small tangent...

That requirement that THEY install the AV software on Macs is just...odd. It needs to go!

Since the 970 is a cripled Power 4 (for cost manufacturability and temperature purposes), I wonder if the actual Power 4 might be found in a future X-serve? It has the cooling balls and has the throughput need, and has no price sensitivity due to the low lisencing costs. Makes sense to me!

The Apple Store called my house and my mom told them I was at college and I wasn't interested.
I proceeded to soil myself.
Daniel.
Damn that sucks. What a waste of an employment opportunity.
But then again, I like MR too much to give it up just for retail (even if it is an Apple Store).

I think you are all overreacting. Have you actually read how it was cracked? Basically play your music, and record it. Replace Napster with iTunes, and the instructions would still remain valid. (but then the itunes drm was _really_ cracked, and it's easier to use hymn than to use the analogue loophole available to any drm scheme)
Personally I think that all the napster bashing is pretty sick.. The more competition, the better. I hate all monopolies, I don't care if it is a stylish monopoly.
Bah, maybe someday there will be a music download service that doesn't lock me in on their platform, that doesn't restrict me what I can do with _MY_ music, that gives me high quality music! A service that doesn't suck to put it bluntly. When we get there, it will be thanks to plain old competition in a free market. Nothing else.
True, the iTMS locks you in the iPod platform (even though that also includes Motorola phones  ), while Napster et al. lock you in the Wintel platform . However... "do the math" (how I hate this slogan), and tell me which is worse: being locked to a digital music player (ber-cool, btw), or being locked to a (decaying) OS?

I would tell them to "F" off... Not sure why your college would even require antivirus software... there is probably more to it than I know.
Anyways, I wish there was a way to connect to the Corporate Server via OS X to see which PCs were infected, that's what I want.
