Apple niether designs nor manufactures the G3. IBM does. Apple does not add things to it. I expect IBM will keep making it as-is for some time, and I expect Apple to keep using it in iBooks because it is tiny, cheap, efficient, and overall pretty powerful.

So the latest news that we are hearing is the the powerbooks will top out at 1 Ghz.
and that the ibook update (if there is one) will be a 13" 800 mhz powerpc G3.
does anyone else find this disappointing.
i mean im all for new powerbooks and upgrades of older systems,
but a measly 200 Mhz speed bump in a laptop that is more than a year old.
i just find this disappointing.
I mean apple has now come out with a pretty revolutionary software system that takes advantage of powerful processors to help run your power intensive applications, but without the power behind it what good is it?
all this in a laptop that will still probably top out at what $3500?
i mean i just feel that with the lagging speeds of the G4 it will be harder and harder to compete with X86 units when they at least double in the same amount of time.
add in the fact that we probably won't even see the "G5" until what 9 months at the very very earliest?
okay im just ranting now, but thoughts?

I also liked FFVII but to a lesser extent. The game mechanics were very fun but I didn't find most the characters as endearing. I'm not a big fan of the "I'm-too-cool-to-care-about-anything" anti-hero archetype. Also, the main villain felt like a big pile of cool clich�s bundled together. Still, its all a matter of personal taste and I can see why so many people would prefer FFVII over VI.

Does anyone know if it produces a sizable change in your electricity bill if you fold?If you have a G5..... :( Which has at least a 600 Watt powersupply, and then there is the Quad.... 1000 Watt powersupply, can you say owh ooooohhhhh

For one thing, the Apple website says that the laptop family is "now complete". For another thing, just think of the confusion the name "MacBook Mini" would inspire. I already confuse enough people when talking about the Macbook and the Mini seperately. "Isn't the MacBook the mini version of the MacBook Pro"? :D

Oooh, I think I remember that vaguely...But four channels was the best. You had to use up two channels at a time to actually get the sound out of both speakers. But some of the music was *amazing*... Ahhh, good old 8-bit Ensoniq guts. :)
i still listen to old school mods.. i love this music. there are so many wonderful artists out there that people have no clue exist.

Wow - Godfather is great.
I played it solidly from 11am on Saturday until 2am on Sunday, hardly pausing for food even. Why would anyone want to play GTA when you can play something similar with a much better plot and characters?

I do not want to enter the "debate" about whether or not DRM and copyright laws are "good" or "bad." But for everyone who believes that the creation of this software was a good thing I would like to suggest that you put your efforts into more productive things, like starting a legal defense fund for that poor individual(s) who helped create the PyMusique software.
I'd just about be willing to bet that federal law enforcement agents will be knocking on his/her door within the next few weeks. No doubt, if Apple wants to press this issue those individuals could be charged with some violation of the DMCA or laws covering internet commerce . I suppose that they could even be charged in a civil suit for violation of the iTunes Terms Of Service agreement.
Seriously, if it is true that some of these people live in the U.S. and they've used their true identities then they could be headed for real trouble. Get their legal team ready (and, of course, I know you'll all be contributing money for their defense). :)

only thing that keeps me from believing it's a hardware thing, not a firmware thing, is that apple was well into aac research and use or whatever when they released the ipod. they had to see it coming
i thought that the current delay in not being able to use aac as a purely audio file was a licensing issue....
therefore, who knows when we'll see the firmware, and an update to itunes to encode with it...

The GF4 MX is abou 10% faster than the Radeon 9000
I know I don't have any hard evidence to back this up but isn't the Radeon 9000 faster than the GF4 MX, even if it's the one off the quicksilvers with 64Mb instead of 32Mb like the GF4 MX in the new towers come with ?
Apple charge extra for having a radeon 9000 over a GF4 MX and I'm sure doubling the video memory isn't something that would seriously effect performance if both cards were effectively the same speed.
I was under the impression that the Radeon 9000 was designed to be faster than the GF4 MX purely because ATI made the card to compete with it and the GF4 MX is no more than a GF3 with some of the guts ripped out to save on cost (in total laymen's terms at least)

Perhaps its just me, but http://macslash.org/ seems to be posting news less and less frequently. For a site that I used to read daily its almost turned into a maybe bi weekly hit for me. Sad when it proclaims itself a "Daily Dose of Mac News and Discussion". Its too bad because I really enjoyed reading news there.
