Ok, so lets say they did opt to increase size of the Powerbook. Wouldn't they have to upscale quite a bit to fit the tray loading drive in the powerbook? (I'm not sure of the specs.. but I would think it would be more then an small increase)

I hear Apple and the "adult toy industry" are working on a.. device.. that will accept a plug from the iPod and will... oscillate... to the tunes being played.
That should be exciting, no?
Reminds me of the Rez Trance Vibrator...

I sure hope they're right...not that I mind chipping paint. When I buy a pb, it'll be well used, and have lots of scratches. Thats my style;) But that'll be important for others.
As for the educational discounts an attempt to flush inventory...wouldn't it be easier to empty inventory by offering discounts to everyone?
I put off buying a new powerbook for fall semester...better not make me wait until jan for a minor speed bump! Gimme more!:D

I've been reading a million threads about people thinking that apple may port OS X to x86....not a chance in hell. However, seeing as motorola is lagging, I do have another option. It seems to me (and someone may have already mentioned this) that at it's core, the athelon is a risk processor...that emulates x86. I'm pretty sure this is true because I spent hours reading tech documents on it a few months ago. Since the chip is a risk chip, It ssems to me that it would not take a ton of work to create a athelon chip that would run OSX (with some root os changes as well). And since this chip would be running pure instead of having to emulate x86, I'd think it would be even more powerful mhz for mhz. I could be completely off base though

This is my first post so hello all.
I went over to techTV.com today and found a realy good video clip showing you the future of PC in five years time, and thay had some great hardware on show too.
But the best thing in the video was this great looking OS that was runing on there computers. Man I thought OSX was a good looking OS, but this look's so good. This is a must see.

And if I ever become a rich man I would love to have one of these monitors to work on PLEASE PLEASE.

I've recently bought one and I've did my research.
There have been rumors since January that a HDMI 120gb "black" 360 will be coming out around May. I find it highly unlikely. The 360 hasn't even hit the 2 yr mark. It's unlikely they are going to give a price drop. With the recent (few months) release of the HD-DVD drive as an add-on, a 120GB HD to come bundled is also unlikely IMO it will probably be a seperate buy like the HD-DVD drive. HDMI will be added, & a cooler chip, for $400, that's plausible, I don't see it any other way.
So I would say if they do upgrade it will be a few months before Halo 3 comes out and it will have a cooler running chip, and the HDMI thingy, nothing else. My TV doesn't have HDMI abilities so I bought a 360 now instead of waiting.

When I go to that site (using Safari), I get the message:
*** Currently the A9 Toolbar runs only on Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or above. We are working to extend the toolbar to other browsers. ***
When visiting using Firefox, I get a completely different page. They should change the message on the first page to mention Firefox too. Otherwise, if it weren't for this post on MacBytes, I would have no idea that it's compatible with Firefox.
With Camino, it says " *** Currently the A9 Toolbar runs only on Firefox 1.0 and above, and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or above. We are working to extend the toolbar to other browsers. *** "

I order books, music used and new, software, and telescope parts from them and I have never had a problem. They have always been very cheap and prompt.

Sure, once the area has an upscale mall. Where is the closest Macy's, Bloomingdales, Brooks Brothers, Gap?
Of course, Lancaster County has the greatest concentration of outlets, so when Apple starts selling for less...
HAHAH yes an apple outlet would be sweet...my family is always in the Lancaster area for those outlets...especially the ones in Reading.

I even donated to the NY Times ad (http://www.spreadfirefox.com/)
Firefox has been my browser on the PC since it was Mozilla and it's been a great browser, no problems, no crashes and it works like Safari which makes me very happy. Once a website I use moves away from IE (lousy thing only works on IE 6.0 or IE for OSX, bah!) I'm never using Internet Explorer again.
Furthermore, when this site works with Firefox, I'm instituting a company policy requiring Firefox over IE; we're tired of worrying about security and 2006 is far too long to wait for another version, MS has truly dropped the ball on this one.

You need to start your own rental service and recoup some of those gaming funds; you'll probably turn a profit in a week's time with all the games you've been getting lately mate. ;)
I would do, But nobody would rent some of the crap I buy :D :(

I doubt that this laptop advert is correct. There is no way a current desktop cpu is used in the laptop (too much heat). It also cant be a Mobile version because they have not been released at this speed. Therefore, I think it is a miss-print! As for battery life, you'll be lucky if it lasts an hour!
NB. Sorry, but dont give that rubbish about it being 4X quicker!! Thats absolute rubbish! Mhz is a very poor rating!

I think it is fine to single apple out. If you are a big company and are getting a lot of media attention then it fair game that you get negitive attention as well. You dont see dell getting the same possible media attention for there new products as apple (this is not an agurment about quility here) but apple gets it. Then it only fair apple gets the negitive as well.
Plus apple is in a spot to start forcing an industry reform. The ones who have the media power to that I think are fair game to be singled out.
I didn't mean to say that Apple shouldn't be criticized and isn't responsible for doing something about the problem, it's just not fair to imply that they're the only company with this problem. I do think Apple should use their position to push for reform.

Native 64-bit integers are also useful for a handful of tasks but I don't think thats a big deal.
AMD's Hammer is said to be faster in 64-bit code, but that is only because it gets more general purpose registers (8) that way as opposed to the pathetic 4 x86-32 has.
Yep.
I'd expand the 4GB of RAM to 4GB of address space though. Mapping files in to memory is probably the other big gain from such a large address space. Along with some more esoteric "tagged address" applications, but we don't need to go there :D

Can't say that I'll have a use for it. I'll be rid of my loaner Dell from work by June when I'll have all the money saved for an MBP. But as a PC user I've been content with Office 2003. It's been great for all my presentations and document editing needs.
And nope not ugly. Not a beautiful presentation but by no means ugly.
