Doesn't OS X use Apple Java instead of Sun Java? If you try to install Sun Java, it just directs you to Apple's site. I did notice, however, that further down the article it says that the security hole hasn't been confirmed on OS X.
The article I read last week said that Mac OS X was not vulnerable, so I'm not sure what's happening with it. However, considering how you need an extra browser plug-in to use Java with something other than Safari, it might be trouble to run an exploit on Mac OS X.

I've lost several relatives to cancer.
More recently I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2002 (lost 6" of it), suffered through months of chemo, but came out OK, then in 2004 found out my Gallbladder burst, OK so the Appendix went also, then to top everything off the cancer came back and invaded my liver. In 2005 I lost over 75% of my liver in a 9 hour operation. I'm just now beginning to fully recover and my liver is almost back to it's original size I'm just grateful to be alive.
I Fold so others may not have to endure what I have, and Kudos to all those that do. I also try to spread the word and get everyone I know who has a computer to do also.
Fold On!!!

Until Adobe comes up with something that's as realiable (ha) as the system quark has there'll be no mass movement to switch. In fact the co. that I'm working for now, was a test subject. One which failed. Most large publishers would love to make the transition to indesign as Adobe offers site licensing, where Quark doesn't. To sum up Indesign is great if your designing at home or have a small staff. It's the better program. But if your trying to produce say a magazine, chances are you won't be using Indesign anytime soon
Now sure, there might be workflow issues with magazine and large publishing but there is NO problem whatsoever with printing at commerical presses.
I don't know where this myth has arrived from, but it's just not true. I'm in po-dunky pittsburgh, pa and man, everyone has ID, most print shops have "ID Files accepted here"

Congratulations jef, you really are a great member of macrumors...it seems like you've always got an interesting thread going in the community forum, whether it be about education or just about something that nobody else could think of. I always enjoy reading your threads on your thoughts on college and grad school, or whatever degree you're currently working on. ;)

Hope the 360 takes note
I agree and have been thinking the same thing lately.
Why Microsoft doesn't take the IE7 core and port it to XNA (360), I'll never know. (as long as it was FREE)
Full version Internet Channel is good. I like the auto-hiding toolbar. :)
Again, no complaints about a free browser from me, especially one that enables me to surf while sitting.

There have been many instances where companies have claimed Apple used their idea. Recent ones being Watson and Konfabulator. There have been more in the past. Nothing you can really do about it.
They offered the Watson guy a job and the Konfab guy used to work at Apple. As Daring Fireball reminded me, it was once called Desk Accessories. Plus, Arlo was warned they were going to do Dashboard. Same with SoundJam and Audion.
I'm sure they have, but I doubt they'd do it with software like this. At least, not without offering them a job first.

you see i was just thinking about what all has happened just after the release of the 5GB ipod back in 01. Look what has happened in the past four and half years. The G5 processor, airport express, four more generations of the ipod, the popular iMac form factor, Tiger, panther, the iTMS. The whole intel switch and every single unit minus the powermac has transitioned over to the intel processors, hell apples now can run windows. I look at how much i hated windows back before i finally switched two years ago and I can't believe it.
if this is the stuff apple can do in the past four years, or hell even in the past year, just wait. boring year, yeah maybe but still impressive.

I'm betting it will be announced at MWNY, shipping two months later. With this news, PowerMac sales will be cannibalized. So, we could likely see updated PowerMacs in January (or roughly January) to possibly 1.5GHz, but only a limited number would ever be made, and production on the PowerMac G4 would cease early in 2003 as Apple clears out inventory to prevent a build-up of G4s after the release of the G5.
Optimistic, yes; but Apple has a few difficult decisions to make right now as far as finding the perfect time to stop producing the PowerMac. Maybe they could improve the cooling of the PowerMac (more so) and simply ask Motorola to rename their 1.25 chips 1.5GHz (basically overclocked, but not really) and Apple would have 1.5GHz G4s in January-March, setting up the G5 for July-September.

I'm not blindly supporting Apple, I'm very well informed in many facets of harware and OS decision making. Based on that, I've chosen to promote Apple to my small and mid-size business clients. I have crates of research and papers I've read to come to this conclusion.
"Now, I'd love if you could quote an insult from me."
That wasn't actually directed towards you.
"I'm intelligent enough to know that Apple does not have the market cap to fully control their chip evolution, and you, it seems, are not."
There you go.
Good point. You win. However, I just went back and re-read this whole thread, and while I have made one insult (sorry), you've made a rash of them.
"No, but you suggested that we should rally around some cause (design chips, boycott Apple, etc.) and vocalize. "
Where did i say we should design chips or boycott Apple? Now you're just liying and it's no wonder you have come to your conclusions, considering you fabricate things like this.
You suggsted we rally around some cause. BEGIN PARENTHETICAL EXPRESSION. INSERT CAUSE OTPIONS DISCUSSED IN THIS THREAD. END PARENTHETICAL EXPRESSION.

MOSR has and is a joke...
They even claim GPUL was just 'made up' by a bunch of rumormongers. Give me a break they are fishing for people to prove them wrong.
Also ... while this is just speculation... Why would Jordan Hubbard (Apple's manager of BSD technologies) say to a room full of hacker types the following:
"One of the benefits of working with Motorola is that the hardware won't get faster."
Talk about a right hook to the jaw... No punches being pulled with that comment.
Do you really think he would have said that if he didn't already know that the next PPCs were NOT gonna have a big letter M on the top.
Maybe I'm wrong but the way I see it.
If Jordan DIDN'T know what was going on in the CPU department he wouldn't have said what he did.
If Jordan DID know what was going on in the CPU department and the next big CPU *was* gonna come from MOT he wouldn't have said what he did.
If Jordan DID know what was going on in the CPU department and the next big CPU *was not* gonna come from MOT then yea what the heck... Take a jab it ain't gonna hurt none.

This has nothing to do with IBM.
"Final Test" refers to verification of completed parts after they have finished the manufacturing process. They are simply relocating this portion of the process to a different facility (most likely to save money).
"Burn-in" generally involves putting the chip through its paces for a short length of time to work out any potential failures.
