Chip makers go to smaller manufacturing processes for several reasons, including the fact that die sizes are smaller which makes the chips cheaper to manufacture, that the chips can clock higher, and that the chips tend to produce less heat at a given clockspeed.
Die size itself does not dictate clock speed. It can influence it because errors are more common during the manufacture of larger dies, and it can influence it if the die is so large that signals cannot propigate as far as they need to during a single clock cycle. However simply adding something like an AltiVec unit to a G3 would not cause either of these to happen to any large degree since the die size is so darn small right now (20% or something the size of a P4).
Times change. The 750fx has little in common with the MPC7455.
You are wrong. IBM surely posseses chips that can make it to 2.0ghz, but the 750fx is not one of them. No two ways about it. It is not possible to take a 750fx chip to 2ghz, no matter how lucky you are. There is a limit which clock speeds of a design will approach and never exceed, no matter how many samples are tried. You can rest assured that the limit is less than 2ghz; it's probably in the low 1.x ghz range.
You may be right about the overall clock speed you seem to know a little bit about processor fabrication though you haven't indicated how. What I do know is that by shortening the distance a signal has to travel you have effectively shortened the time of travel which is the measurement of speed. Now when it comes to cpus and your taking about Billions of signals/second sortening the distance those signals have to travel also effectively increases the perceived speed of the processor.

it was a fun ride getting there, too
first there was john123, spikey, and kela at the top
then i entered there with eye and mischief and for a short time, i was number one and they both passed me up, but while i passed mischief some time back, eye has pulled way ahead
then i think everybody else came on later that year and the next who now populate the top spots here
somehow i think mr anderson will stay number one for a long time and be in the top ten for several years to come:D

Microsoft could scrap their OS, and build a new one from the ground up. I know they have to provide legacy support but if microsoft said all of the companies (software and hardware) had to rewrite to make compatible, they would all do it. eventually.
Yes, I Agree. IMO Microsoft should scrap windows, and rebuild with UNIX as a foundation, then work upwards to a new OS.
Worked for Apple, could work for Microsoft

Battery life isn't really important because 99% of people run their notebook off of A/C, not battery. If you do, you can run this up to 2 hours on a battery. Still not bad.
All this talk about editing a movie while flying coast to coast is bunk. Trying to do that while flying on a major and they will think you are a terrorist. Besides the jets now have A/C jacks in first class.

Ok, so it is 4x faster than the PowerBook. 4x faster in what. You just can't say it is 4x faster. And saying that no one runs there laptop of battery, thats insane. thats the whole damn reason why i have a powerbook, so i can take it with to places where I can't plug it in. Whatever the battery life on that thing is I would knock off and hour and you would get really. Editing movies is a terrorist thing, right. Plus not everyone flies first class. Can that X-Book run iCal, iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto, Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, and everything else without crashing. I think not. Next time think of something to back up your problem with Apple. To me it sounds like you don't know what your talking about and I think everyone else on this server would agree.

Overall, people generally should (and I think do) take each "rumor" with a grain of salt... and no single rumor should generally be taken as gosphel.
That being said, you can rate rumors in your head based on where they come from. This particular rumor didn't make it to the front page of macrumors for a reason.
There are always a few of the vocal minority which scream bloody-murder when a relatively extreme rumor is posted... but suspect that is the minority, and most people have some common sense about it all.

Is there a seti specific app I can download for windows? Also, I already have an account and don't want a new one. I'm thinking about just not even bothering on that computer. My dual 2ghz PM should be here tomorrow and that will be running seti as soon as I set it up.

couldn't you just use InCrease and tell it to run 4 FAH cores at the same time, and one would go to each core? I use the app with my dualie ad tell it to run 2 and it puts one to each processor just fine

Thanks jefhatfield. Actually, the post you qouted was the one where I decided to do the WI MR Thread. It *has* turned out to be incredibly successfull, thanks to your post for insipiring me.
Oh, and I do think I'll go with option #2. I think we'll probably have a mini-meet at some point within the next year. That should be fun.
On an aside note, this is my 1000th post after being on the boards for 5 days shy of 4 years.
congrats...it seems to be you, me, and true777 on these boards from the earliest of days

Maybe I misunderstood the above posts, but as far as I know, the iPod itself doesn't do any encoding. My powermac can certianly encode AAC, and in fact, I've been reripping CDs for a couple of days now. I should think it will only be a firmware upgrade to the iPod, I can't imagine any needed hardware change.

Anyone working for an Apple Store should not be posting on these forums because it is against policy.
Also, I would imagine that apple would require their employees to be at least 18 years old. :(

Oof. That sucks. Try to find a .ini or some kind of config file of some sort and try to change some parameters. I am not 100% sure of this idea, but I assume that's how people have gotten it to work on a MacBook.
Your best chance is probably to look for PC gamers that have managed to run it on below system requirement systems. Maybe there's something out there on Google, assuming your claim about playing this on a MacBook are true.are you calling me a liar? :( no just kidding.
ill look for that file though

The cops are working on background info on both houses to try and get a warrant. It seems there have been other break-ins in the area and they are hoping to catch the guy (or girl) who has been doing it. Right now, my 360 showing up on my network has been the biggest lead they have gotten because it narrows down the area by quite a bit.
Glad to hear this. Hopefully you'll get your 360 back soon!
