Hi all, new here. Addicted since original consumer release date. Abandoned PvE server with a lvl 60 +alts for the cheap thrill of a PvP server. Dial-up and min spec comp ruined all chances of fun. Rural location prevents broadband speed, empty wallet prevents hardware upgrade. Higher power intervention? Quit since BC release. Still fiending.... Is there hope for me? "Wii Knee" has become injured, unresponsive. Thank goodness for a forgiving and lovely wife. Thank You.

I don't know... Personally, I'm waiting for now. I'm saving up, so there aren't any funds to buy a 360 now anyway. But, I'm really hoping by the time I'm ready to buy a 360, there will be a redesigned X-Box 360. There will be no division between the "old X-Box 360" and "new X-Box 360" owners. The GBA was revised twice and fairly quickly. The DS was revised shortly after the original fat. The PlayStation 2 had its revision. You could even say the GameCube got dumbed down when they go rid of the component video cable port. The only leaked photo of Zephyr showed that it was the old beige box with an added HDMI port. For all we know, the revised X-Box might just add a HDMI port.
I'm waiting to see a cooler running X-Box 360, smaller, built-in WiFi ($100 for a USB dongle is ridiculous), possibly internal hard drive (charging us for a proprietary hard drive?!), and most importantly, the premium model hits $299. I don't care about HDMI. I don't care about a black X-Box 360.
Do I expect to see a revision at all anytime soon? I'm really doubtful. I'll probably end up with the $399 premium X-Box 360 this summer, but I'm hoping there will be a redesign by the time I'm ready to buy.

Nope....MS didn't, they were sued by the same company and settled for 26M, never once did they not put force feedback in there system, and they cite the reason as it being "last gen"
But if MS didn't pay the lawsuit they would have said the same kinda of thing. Companies don't admit that kind of thing.
Sony took a bet that people didn't love rumble all that much and they lost thats all.

I turned off magnification in the dock after a couple of days, and I assume everyone else would to.
Sure it's nice to look at but it's completely useless and always gets in the way.
Why would you assume that?? Do you really believe that everyone computes the same way you do?
I love magnification. I always have it on. In fact, I think the dock is incredbly boring without it. However, I don't ASSUME that everyone else does what I do.
This kind of assumption seems to happen in these forums frequently.

It will dramatically slow your folding down to let both continue to run and it actually might screw both of the work units up. Not sure how, but I suppose it's possible for data to be corrupted.
One Work Unit is one protein. Every individual Work Unit has points associated to it. If you rank teams based on points, MacRumors is 22nd. But we jump all the way to 16th or so if you rank teams based on the number of WU's completed.
As for how long it takes to complete a WU. Well it depends on the WU downloaded, it depends on the processor type, it depends on how many other apps you have running, etc. 12 days isn't out of the question, but you'd likely go through them faster if you were only running one instance. For example, my Dual 2.0ghz G5 takes about 8.5 minutes per frame on a 400 frame tinker WU. Some machines can take as much as 40-80 minutes per frame. At 40 minutes a frame, that's over 11 days.
I'd suggest you try what Dreadnought wrote. Type rid2 and see if it eliminates the second instance you have running. Otherwise, wait until the one that is closest to completion is finished and then use the rid command and install the single processor version.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience. I had two questions, how was the view from where you were sitting? (Assuming it was more towards the back due to being one of the last people in) and is there any chance at all to meet Steve Jobs? (He has been my first role model growing up)
The view was fine. I didn't have any trouble seeing.
There's no opportunity to meet Steve in the keynote. He doesn't waste any time in entering or exiting, he just goes on-stage, does his thing, and then immediately leaves.
After the keynote, he did make an appearance at the Apple booth on the show floor, but that was mostly for interviews with the press. I don't know if anyone got to meet him there.

That optimized build of Camino is replacing Safari as my main web browser. Thanks for putting those together oaklandbum.
It's great that are so many good web browsers to choose from now. :)
Glad you all like it. I've been using the 2 April build for half the day and haven't noticed any problems with it, so it looks like most of the bugs in the last couple of days have been resolved.

It's because laptops are becoming in short supply period. It has nothing to do with Amazon besides they or whoever they get them from probably doesn't stock many.
The short supply of laptops is usually a precursor to an upgrade and many people are taking it as a sign of that.

I'd be more impressed with these "tests" if the pro-Mac cowards had used a top-of-the-line Athlon system (1.8ghz is available for duals, 2.13ghz is pretty much available for singles) or a top-of-the-line P4 (2.0ghz? haha!). The 2.0ghz P4 runs on the old 400mhz FSB whereas there is a 533mhz FSB P4 clocking at 2.8ghz available. They also make no mention of memory type used on any platform. For the P4, PC1066 RDRAM is tops, for the Athlon the new nForce2 with 2 channels of 333mhz DDR is tops (although I will admit that chipset still has a one-month ETA). OK, so maybe use the VIA KT400 for the Athlon, it's pretty good.
And what's his quote about a dual Xeon 2200 probably being top dog? Other than the fact you can get Xeons at 2.8ghz as well...
Anyway I think these tests are crap. But they will suffice so that "Macs are fastest!" freakos can keep them in mind and make vauge statements about how Macs and PCs are about the same speed in "tests". (Those people annoy me.)

Crackdown, along with Saints Row seem like petrol station breaks before the destination.
But have you played crackdown or simpy pre-judging it on what you 'think' it plays like rather than actual experience ?
Remember Crackdown is by the same guy who came up with GTA.
But both should not be compared - but.... as Edge™ put it. CrackDown is where 'freeroaming' should have begun. It's all about the self exploration and free will to do anything and rewarded for doing so - than ANY gta game has done.
Crackdown is more 'fun' than GTA. You are not limited by do missions A, B, C, D, E, F before you can get to next area. It's far more 'free' that GTA has ever been.

As a publicly traded company doesn't the Board of Directors have a obligation to run the company to the best of their ability and make the shareholders money.
In the later aspect they're not doing so well.
But yeah, the company can't just quit, they have contracts and orders, as well as debt. Contracts include sales orders ... but also warranty service and everything else you can imagine.
There is no magical switch to flip. And the government probably wouldn't let them anyway because AMD would gain monopoly power in the industry of chip manufacturing and well thats not really something our government is supposed to embrace.

I notice good and bad aspects to any internet browser, of course. Firefox and Safari are about *even* in my opinion of their features and functionality. <shrugs> I think I'd use Safari more often if it were just slightly faster.
I digress.

actually, that would still be very cool and beat "dull's" $999 celeron running laptop running windows xp;)

But really this is almost sad, not really:D
I enjoy seeing the SLOW fall os MS.
Maybe if Vista was going to get all the orginal promised features i could see it taking this long, but it has so few features is terrible

When will the retail Radeon 9000 Pro/Mac version arrive ? That was suppose to be out in Sept, which is almost over.
Has anyone seen these advertised anywhere ? That will be a great update to my quicksilver.

Perhaps, if the project supported more than Windows machines, it would be possible to help.
It appears that the software behind it does work on Mac OS X, though. Maybe they just need to update the information on their FAQ page.
