hmmmmm interesting idea guys
see i was thinking the same thing about the oct 1st promo end. It would make perfect sense for apple to come out with cheaper LCD or even a 19-20 inch widescreen one. Apple is defianately lacking in the 17-22 range for a monitor. I know a bunch of us would like something slightly bigger than 17 but dont want to pay $2500 for the ancient 22 inch one.
I would recomend to all you prospective powermac buyers to check out FORMACs two monitors. the 17.4 inch one ($899) goes head to head with the apple one and only gets beat if you add the apple promotion to the price.
Also they just came out with a 20.1 inch one ( too bad its not widescreen) that has 1600*1200 resolution. It sells for $1700 but you can get it for under $1630 wihtout tax if youre crafty. It pretty hard to beat the 20.1 at the formac.com website they have awesome comparisons to the 22 and 23 inch apple displays. the 20.1 is also color accurate while the apple high end ones arent.
I allready gave up on the concept of new LCDs in early october, and went with the formac 20.1, so if apple fails to satisfy its loyal followers i suggest to try out what formac has to offer.

A Carbon application which only uses Apple's libraries would be fine, especially a Mac OS X-only Carbon app. There may be instances where someone is using a shared library or resource which is not Mac OS X compatible and can't be ported at all, but Apple doesn't want people to be using resources anyway, only Nibs.

hahaha i love this forum sometimes. more halo please =)
anyways, Oracles endorsement is HUGE news, it surely will make more than a few IT managers cross the line to obvious cost savings when they had only been unsure of the brand... and now Oracle is comfortable with that brand.
soon, Xsan (http://www.apple.com/xsan) too. wow.

Bartender seems like a good line of work for him. He can mix drinks using other people's recipes all day long.

It says the cd-rom on your Pb is slower than the PC. In addition the G4 sucks, but its the CD ROM speed making most of that difference

Its a great version of lemmings in fairness and works very well. And at 3.50 you cant really complain about faults etc.
Nice way of telling me it's worth avoiding :D

I'm not sure whether Apple's investigative team had been fooled or didn't understand the legal situation or didn't care.
Foxconn/Hon Hai understand the law and they should have complied. If they hid the situation from Apple, why should Apple be punished?

The formatting bars look a lot more useable than those in Word 2003/XP/2000.

Usually there's a bit of a delay before the auto update feature notices the updates. They do this so that their servers don't get overloaded. At the moment, they're still making localised releases of 1.0.3, and they may not release 1.0.3 to the autoupdater until those are finished.

OMFG! You guys are driving me NUTS!
This stalking of Apple and everything they do has gone from "mildly amusing" to downright freakishly weird! Before I switched I considered Mac users strange...THIS IS WHY!
The only people making a big deal out of the 30th anniversary are you stalkers. The endless amusment provided for Steve Jobs and Co. can not be overstated.
New products will come out when they're good and ready.
Oh, and there's already a ton of threads on this in the rumors fora.
[/end rant, tongue only slightly in cheek] ;)

formacs specs blow away Apple LCD specs, and the looks are extremely similar. I doubt that when apple brings out a 19-20 inch LCD, that its going to compare with formacs current offering, the 2010 and its insane 600:1 contrast ratio. you find me a better monitor for $1700 than formacs gallery 2010. the only thing that makes mac LCD more appealing to powermac users is their rebates. without the rebates those monitors would just sit on the shelves.

My experiences with SKYPE were ALL awful, i found that it does not work and I have followed the guides for firewall settings and so forth.
At present SKYPE has a long long long way to go.
People and companies tend to overreact on any emerging market. :p ;) :)
I will still keep my land line since and when the electricity goes out you will not be able to use VoIP, unless you have a generator. :)

With Audio Hijack Pro, no - it only works on Macs, and all Macs have identical sound hardware (no dedicated sound card comes with any of them) (except possibly the Mac clones, which I'm ignoring for the sake of simplicity). On the Winamp side, your soundcard might make a difference in what you hear on your computer - regardless of your soundcard, what you hear in Winamp is the sound data that gets written to the WAV file.
Thanks. So that means there is essentially no quality loss when the WMV file gets converted to WAV? I understand of course that the WMV file itself was lossy. But from your description the WAV file should be the de-compressed output with no other changes.
If you then rip the WAV to CD, you have the same CD that you would've otherwise paid an extra .99 a track for. If you re-compress, you will have some further sound quality degradation (sort of like re-saving JPEG files.)

What you do pay for is anyone's guess - software, R&D, or whatever - but Apple is notorious for its very high margins. Whatever you pay more for, it's definitely not the hardware, because most (all?) Macs are made in the same massive Asian factories as the big PC manufacturers' are anyway.
And I disagree that all PCs are crap as you say they are. Windows has come a long way, like it or not, and PCs are not the BSOD-every-hour computers they used to be. They've gotten a lot better in recent years, and this is why so many Macrumors posters are worried and yelling at Apple to get a move on with the faster machines.

I agree with you 110% all the way! Like I was saying earlier, my XP machine has never BSOD'd me. I used to have a shirt a long time ago that said, Macintosh 89' = Windows 95'. Now longer can I make this argument. Also very good point about the components.
Bewarned, ppl are going to flame us, but I don't care. I think you and I are being completely honost. Many of us here really want to see Apple lead the pack again in hardware.

Just read bout apple buying adobe (http://it.sys-con.com/read/214144.htm). It`s not a news, not even a rumor but sort of speculation. Or bettter said a wish from an Apple fan. Acc to Mr. Cringley if Apple buys out adobe than they have every chane in world to beat M$ in the OS sector.

Mreh.... I would never use half of those, and I use alternatives for most of the others. I'd say you'd need SideTrack, CopyPaste, MenuMeters, and some of Unsanity's stuff.

When it asks for the team number (in the preferences?), enter "3446". I've never used the screensaver version so I'm not sure where it can be entered.

Not much at all, with my receiver, sub (w 650 amp), ps3, wii, and tv on standby and my HD Cable DVR on 24/7 i draw only 0.6A
TV on, Receiver on, sub/amp on, DVR on, all else on standby around 2.5-2.8A
While Playing the Wii, 3.2-3.8A
While Playing PS3/Watching BD, 4.0-4.8A
Thats total system Amp load.
Ed
How are you measuring current? This probably won't help because things like the amplifier and power supplies in the ps3/wii will add quite the phase shift on the line, and your ammeter probably can't compensate.
