So sorry if I missed any thread on DVD Jon's involvement in this.
I have to admit that I am cynical he was the brains behind DeCSS. I always figured he played the patsy for some adult he knew. Like maybe the true owner of that Timex/Sinclair Spectrum thingy PC you see on his home page. I am however grateful for the program. I just think it was a matter of time before *someone* leaked or discovered the algorithm.
So getting to my point, it would seem like this guy is spending a lot of energy trying to piss off media corporations. The only conclusion I can see is that he wants the attention. Flirting with lawsuits sounds as crazy as publishing trade secrets on your website. :D There's also this pro-Real Networks thing I think I am getting from his site, but that's for another thread...
If I'm wrong and he's truely genius (and can repeat it), then maybe he ought to create something of his own with all that talent. If he knows so much about DRM and coding, there should be a whole lot more money in making the next generation DRM. Sometimes the best thieves make the best security experts. He'd still get the fame, and wouldn't have to worry about legal issues.
The line that "information wants to be free" won't buy a Porsche!

I think this gets asked once a month. And no, MS was forced to buy non-voting shares of Apple stock in the late 90's for being monopolistic bastards, and then end up selling the stock off.
MS owns jack about Apple.

Thanks to everyone for your insight. Seeing as how I have some time tonight and tomorrow and possibly over the weekend, I believe I will fire it up and see how it goes.
You could, but you'd be missing out on a lot of the WoW experience. WoW is the community and it all depends on what server you're on. Why not just try a RPG like Oblivion, I reckon you'd get more out of that.
I am not opposed to forming up with anyone on occasion. I just don't want to have to depend on it. I would simply like to be able to get online, play and have a good time regardless of who else is on.
What I was hoping I could avoid was sitting around in a group of prepubescent boys listening to them talk about how cool they say they are all while we wait for the giant pickle monster to repop so that the pimple faced leader can bark commands at me so that I can have a shot to obtain the uber l33t girdle that I need to protect myself from the kid with anger issues who hunts down newbs to somehow justify his existence. I had my fill of that playing MUDs and it no longer fits my concept of fun.

Being the head of the Graphics department I had to ask myself, "self, do you care if the owner knows?" "yes", I replied. So I told him and showed him the entire story. Since I was, at the time, just returning from cancer surgery he was very interested in Folding and the whole show, and was glad I could do something of this caliber. Since the company was sold the new owner informed me his wife survived breast cancer and he also was willing to allow me to continue. I now have a new 3.1 Hz DELL and 2 G4-800s at work all running 24/7 Along with my G4-500 at home I have rocketed up the chart to #231 on Team 3446. :D
I have also promoted the Folding@Home on the prepressforums.com site I am a moderator on. I have recruited several new members to the ranks of Team 3446
Keep On Folding

some of us hardware side IT people often make fun of the software IT people and it is often because of the introverted way most of them act or their lack of knowledge of the hardware side of things
but what's interesting is that the hardware side techies like network engineers and desktop techs would not have anything to implement and maintain if it wasn't for those coders who make it all possible
i always hear a lot about the hardware side of apple's products and the praise they get when things are done right, but i rarely hear about the heroes in the background, the developers who make it all run smoothly
of all the products apple has ever made, the mac operating systems is what really makes a mac a mac:D

I think that Google are set to release 4 things in the near future.
1. A Movie Creator - Mostly like iMovie with DVD burning built in.
2. A Basic music Creator - Mostly Like Garageband.
3. A Google web browser - It will have dierct access to all of google's services.
4. A Google Media Player - It will play most formats as well as Videos from Google's Video Download Service. (it will be intergrated with the web Brower)
By The way ilife and mac os x have these apps allready. (see below)

The elevator itself was manufactured before the release of the Intel processors in the Macs, so it actually ran in the Apple Store under Rosetta. Unfortunately, Rosetta crashed and caused this malfunction.

You argument had something going for it up until the end where it just fell appart. I sorry but a compared a $1000 HDTV to lets say a $2000+ of the same size and you see a very noticible diffence in quillity.
...I am not going to get into an argument with you over this. The point is that the prices of flat panel displays are dropping rapidly. Those $1000 HDTV sets at Wal-Mart occupy the low end. However, the prices of high end displays are also dropping like a stone. FWIW, Panasonic will sell you a 42-inch plasma screen integrated HDTV for $2500-$3000. Your price of $4000 US buys a 50-inch top-of-the-line plasma screen integrated HDTV. The company has 50-inch sets for $3500 if $4000 is too rich for your blood. Neither Panasonic set would qualify as low-quality.
I believe that I have made my point. The prices of flat panel television sets are in steep decline. Apple has nothing to add to the market for HDTV sets. The company would be virtually guaranteed to lose its shirt selling them.

Just passing through... an interesting test would be finding the determinants of large matricies of floats and ints. And I mean finding them by the straightforward stupid computation method, none of the simplification stuff.
Reasons:
1) Too large for all data to be in registers but easily small enough to fit in L1.
2) Takes a long time for surprisingly small matricies (20x20 is a huge number of calculations).
3) Stresses multiples and adds.
4) No massive-yet-trivial compiler simplifications, even for int.
5) The result has meaning.

I'm not sure what those articles are supposed to mean. CherryOS is seriously buggy, and shouldn't have been announced as a finished product, but there is real code there which makes the "hoax" label just a little bit silly.
The Wired blog entries are kind of disappointing, in that the reviewer chose to mess only with doctored pirated OEM upgrade copies rather than real OS X retail discs.
What a waste all around.

I love how an update ''PORT" is classed as an "EXCLUSIVE" ..
That has to be the biggest OXY-MORON ever.
I'd get this 'IF' they have a difficulty option. The original Ninga Gaiden was toooooo hardcore that I got very fustrated and eventually lost interest.
Yeah, I mentioned how ridiculous this is before.
I guess that means Guitar Hero II is *exclusive* to 360!

holy CoW! Apple could come out with a car radio, where you could save all your favorite (preset) stations on your iPod, bring it into your house and sync your home theatre band to the same...the files would basically be a 4K file and would just easily transmit over bluetooth technology.
and you'd always have a backup of your favorite stations...sweet!

Nice :D Can't wait to check it out :)
Edit: Ok, I like. Buddy icons in contact list was one of the few things I missed and now it's there. I haven't checked out anything else, but it was enough for me to send a little donation :)
