What's the point? If anything, this discussion shows our weakness in numbers.

...completely. He echoed my words from previous posts. This is a rumor, and already some are getting their hopes up. I remark that people in these fora do that, and then I'm told, "I don't get worked up! It's just a rumor." Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
This is BS until we get something a whole helluva lot more substantial. And like solvs, I hope my cynicism is misplaced.

P4s can't go Dual. It's sorta like the G3, it's just not designed to do that. It wouldn't work.

I'm going to try this. On my laptop it's got the same graphics card (Intel GMA 950) I'm running 1.86GHz Core Solo, 1gb ram 60gb hard drive. This is in Vista Home Premium so hopefully it goes smoothly. I'll let you guys know i'm installing BF2 right now (I got the deluxe edition too)
Please let me know how it works out. I HOPE it works for you. Maybe it will help with my problem

The CompUSA in Concord, CA has older iPods cheap; $299 for 10 GB, and $199 for 5. Now if only I had money to spend on things other than car insurance...

well, actually, we don't. But, if we did need one, this is how I'd setup the iMac:
1167MHz G4
With an increased bus speed and a clock speed 32% higher than the previous 800MHz iMac, this sucker would take the old iMac to town.
Radeon 9500
This would finally give the iMac something to talk about when comparing game performance. Plus, this would make the iMac a viable prosumer computer for 3D editing.
Monitor Spanning Option
Paired with a matching 17" widescreen display (which sadly, does not exist), the iMac could become a video editing suite. Final Cut Pro would become more manageable, and any creative user could make use of the extra screen real estate.
And This Wouldn't Kill The PowerMac
If the low-end PowerMac were bumped to dual-1GHz or even dual-933MHz, competition for speed would be minimal. All power users would still go for the PowerMac, especially with the options for expansion that the PowerMacs offer.
The Radeon 9500 would not deter buyers from the PowerMac; the GeForce4 Ti 4600 (which the PowerMacs offer), is still a more powerful display. Plus, a Radeon 9700 and the NV30 will likely ship for the Mac before entirely too long.
Oh, and about monitor spanning: I can only see this benefitting Apple. So what if a user now spends less on the purchase of a PowerMac? He'll still be buying an extra display for the ability to span across two monitors, and he's still likely to spend the money for Final Cut Pro.

I've had several people telling me from other teams that it's not fair that only one person on one team will benefit for helping my nephew and I say that person is right. I'm changing my offer. One person will get all my WU for a month, and if my nephew wins, each team with at least one vote will also get all my WU for a month. Basically if my nephew wins, this team is already guaranteed to get my 80k+ points for a month.
Thanks everyone and keep voting.

That's fine. They don't have to fix every bug, only the ones that affect me. Everyone else can suffer :D

For responding to an idiotic rumor.
Peter2002: The Itanium isn't a desktop chip, the 970 is. Intel's P5 is no less vaporware than the PPC 970, which has actually been tooled and proto'd.
This article is based on 1 study of broad market trends which apply to Apple as much as broad weather trends apply to Antarctica.
"Analysis of 2002 tropical storms show huge statistical vacuum in Antarctica that guarantees being McMurdo being hit by a cat 5 hurricaine next year!"

So, I don't know if there's a thread on this already, but I gotta ask.
Have any of you guys done something really nice for Apple because it's Apple, that you wouldn't do for, say, Dell or another PC company?
What I mean - I bought an Intel iMac and got a printer with it, filed out the $100 off form (for the buy a Mac get a printer promo), sent it in. I returned the iMac for a full refund a few weeks later, and ended up getting a Mac Mini instead. As I was checking out at the store, a saleslady said I could get a free printer if I wanted, since I got the Mini. I felt bad for still having a free printer from the iMac though, since I technically didn't get a computer with it cause of the full refund - so I declined. I thought about it for a second, especially since I could probably get a decent amount for a brand new in-the-box printer + refund check, but decided I didn't wanna screw Apple out of $100. To be honest, I don't know if I would have decided the same thing if it had been Dell.
So... your thoughts? Your stories?
wait a minute. you got a mac and a free printer, returned the mac but kept the printer? i don't see the point of your question since you kept the first printer and declined a second printer. you didn't do any favors to apple in the first place.

I voted for iPhone too. Mostly just cuz I'm getting sick of the bickering about handsets and the people calling me a sheep because I have a RAZR and other associated nastiness involved in dicussing the cell industry on MR...

Not that it helps all that much now, but what about this
http://protect.gadgettheft.com/
a program that you load into your device and if its lost or stolen will give you the location of said item. Its like 12 bucks a year for 5 devices, how about some payback for theives.

It'd be great to have a totally new 'thing'. And no, the iPod Hi-Fi definitely does not count.
Still, I think just converting the existing range to Intel is work enough for all the chaps and chapesses at Apple for the moment. Then, hopefully, all those lovely new Intel chips will open the door to new, exciting form factors that just wern't possible with the old chips. I'm not sure if we'll see something before the end of the year, but I'm eternally optimistic :D The bottle of Vodka is always half full!

Its funny how ya'll go who-hoo! for a 4 GB memory stick, and people balk at a 5 GB digicam. :D
I personally am content with my two 192 Compact Flask cards (12x speed). Heck, if I needed a gig I'll buy a microdrive.
But hey, gooo...sony! Get them 4 gigers out in three years!

Doom III was demonstrated by John Carmack using the ATI9700 and at the time he said that he would only use the best and fastest hardware available to demonstrate it and that the ATI9700 was it and is and was the only card that would play the game properly.

or u could just take the ibook, stretch the screen to a 16:9 ratio (16:10 on a tibook, whatsup with that?) up the ram capacity, throw in a g4 and call it a tibook. (sarcasm)
what im saying is thats basically NO difference between the ibook and tibook if they have exact same cards (g3 processor will hurt on Doom 3 i bet) so u need some distinction. i bet a 700mhz ibook with a g3 and ati 9000 would rip in 10.2 due to QE support, you'd probably have trouble telling the speed differences except for in heavy computation tasks (see g4's l3 cache)
