100% certain. Powerbooks were just declared "end of life" today in Europe and domestic supplies are rapidly thinning. More likely to be declared during Paris and Seybold San Francisco.

No, it only affects Office v.X. The security flaw is not present in Office 2004.
Right, that's versions v.X and 2001. Sorry.
EDIT: I shouldn't have been so quick to say that. Office 2004 does contain the flaw, the patch is in Service Pack 1 as described in KB #883951 (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=883951#13)
Also an update to fix the flaw is now available from Microsoft.
Link already provided above.

Sony's biggest mistake was in not enabling online multiplayer for Wipeout:Pure - a AAA game otherwise - as well as certain other games such as Hotshots Golf. I ended up playing both of those MUCH in online multiplayer down the road using my xlink kai the airport card in my powerbook as a wireless point. This was a free service (used in conjunction with Amarylis and Kaid OSX Menu free software in OSX) that used the PSP's ad hoc functionality (intended by Sony for local multiplayer) to achieve remote multiplayer. Was awesome (especially in wipeout up to 4-5 players) BUT the only people to play against were the same handful of folks savy enough to figure out how to get the thing to work - or even know of xlink kai in the first place. IF the multiplayer had been provided directly by Sony, the PSP would have really taken off and never have slowed down. Yeah there was Socom, but by then it was really too late in the public eye, especially current/former PS2 owners.
1-2 years ago I wrote a good number of posts here at MR on the PSP (including xlink kai), homebrew, etc.

...and I agree with you. With Dell coming out with 2.2GHz laptops...
What do you mean "coming out with?" I've had my 2.2ghz Dell laptop since September 26th. I don't forsee a PBook that I would even think about buying until the 130nm G4's are out, hopefully within the first part of 2003.

However the switch to a smaller process for the 7455 will allow heat/power sensitive equipment to use the faster chips.

Steal: To take (the property of another) without right or permission.
When you copy something, you're not taking it. The original is still there.
Steal: to take or appropriate without right or leave and with intent to keep or make use of wrongfully
This would include property, services, etc. By copying songs (software, bandwidth, comic material, etc.), you are essentially taking money that rightfully belongs to the owner of that material, who should have received some sort of royalty payment for the transaction.

Certainly, the dual 867 you bought is the price/performance value of the entire G3/G4 odyssey, but I'm just a guy who has a matching bondi blue monitor and bondi QPS 8x CD-writer (the overall visual effect of my rig, complemented by a bright yellow Waldorf Q (and formerly also a Nord Lead 2 (sold)) and the Logic Control / xt modules is quite a delight...). If I wanted to get into one of these new, wonderful machines like yours, I'd have to factor in spending at least 2k additional to buy a cinema display 22 (I'll admit my vanity - appearance of the setup does matter to me to some extent), and that would make the upgrade a little rich, especially in light of the uncertainty regarding the life left in the G4 CPU.

I'm a bit confused. Would this enable me to access my email inbox in a browser that is being served by OS X Server, so i could access it like gmail instead of just Thunderbird or Mail?
Edit: Let me rephrase that, because it doesn't make much sense. I have OS X Server set up as a web and mail server. I can access my email with Mail and Thunderbird. Could I install RoundCube and access my email with a web browser like you can with GMail or Yahoo?
Looks good, btw.
From what I understand, yes. If you have your own email (as in you have your own domain name), then this will act like your webmail interface.

Here's my prediction:
Remember they talked about giving away $100.00 laptop all over the world? I think Google OS is for it! Cuz google is free for everything (softwares, emails, etc.). What do you think?
EDIT: laptop for poor children / education, somethhing like that.

Amen to that.
But now that Windows has come to the Mac, there is less reason for gaming promotion on OS X than before.
Apple had lots of chances.... OpenGL being built right-in Mac OS X, AltiVec engine that could have helped, and with the introduction of the G5. I actually thought Steve might've done some gaming promo-trick.
I remember a couple of Steve-notes where he did use gaming as a marketing tool:
- MacWorld NY 1998 (pic: CD's of gaming on Mac OS 9)
- MacWorld SF 2000 (pic: John Carmack of ID talking about Mac OS X)
- MacWorld Tokyo 2001 (demo of GeForce 3 grfx card, with very early preview of doom 3)
Wonder why he let it go, really....

And I should also add that a every single Windows user (and let's face it, that's what most people are) is familiar with the (at least) 2-button mouse. Do you know what is the number one complaint I have heard from people who I have convinced to swith to Mac? They love everything about the Mac and the OS, but they always say that they can't stand the one button mouse! As a friend of mine told me last week, right after purchasing a new imac (she was always a Windows user prior to this), "I love almost everything about this machine. The computer itself and OS X make me feel like I am 20 years into the future. But that damn single button mouse brings me back to 1960!"
Since Tuesday was her birthday, I went out and bought her a 4-button Logitech mouse. Now she is completely satisfied with her Mac.
If you really want more people to switch to Apple, the mouse issue is a serious issue to consider.

Anyone who joins up to Greek Boy's SETI thing will get a COMPLIMENTARY glass of Cava - Spain's delightful fizzy white wine - which I stole from the second fridge in the house kitchen!

That's cool and all...but most people favor the smaller iBook for portability. It seems most people like the 14" iBook here, but at other forums...people hate it. The 12" iBook is such a great design...it would be sad to see it only available at the low-end. Now, if you change the 14" completely...that could be cool.

Nintendo Wii Fanboy speculates without any basis that they might charge for it, but Opera/Nintendo haven't said anything of the kind officially.
If they charge for the full version to people who downloaded the beta...I won't be getting it; I'll just keep the beta on there. If the beta fails to work or "expires" when the full version hits and I can't use the beta anymore, it won't bother me one bit. It's nice to have for free, but I'd never pay for a web browser on a console, no matter what resolution it was displayed in.
I agree - have probably used it twice since I got it, and then only to fool around. I think it takes up a fair bit of the internal memory, too.

Well, apparently, 10.2.2 has been seeded to developers. Maybe there will be a fix in there for us.

However, I must have been lucky! I have no audio problems with my machine (Dual 1ghz - old style).

Attachements were deleted to save Apple the trouble of emailing me to delete them. :)
This person submitted this to me, and I did not post it for a couple of reasons. He chose to post it himself, which is his choice... but his apple account will certainly get closed down.
The pdf does show proprietary Apple information. The only interesting part of it for end-users like us is that they show Firewire 2 connectors being tested/consirdered back in 6/02.

"Uhm. I never said it was at 3-4+GHz. I said it was rated at 3400+ on the AMD scale. Like Athlon XP 2600+, Athlon XP 2000+, etc."
The 3-4+ Ghz I was refering to are the Intel chips. When AMD releases their new 64-bit chips, they will be directly competing with Intel's high, multithreaded P4's -- and also trying to draw sells (to manufactures) based on the new arcitechture. Intel is not to worried about these new chips coming into the market. AMD will have to do some serious campaning to get this chips to sell to the manufactures, and prove they are better/cheaper than the Intel chips -- when the Ghz are lower than the main competition (refering to the Hammer consumer model, considering that it will be considerably lower in Ghz than the Intel P4's).
It is not that I fail to reconginze the consumer 64-bit Hammer, it is that I fail to see the large pull from Dell, HP, Compaq, Gateway, etc. to adopt these chips into their professional, business and home model PC's. This is based on the fact that the PC users (both business and consumer) are not quite ready for this technology, while P4's are still coming out. Maybe later...
And the wide scale release of Windows Xp 32/64-bit hybrid, only for AMD in the first quarter on 2003 is very small scale. I think that Intel would have to enter the 64-bit market (which they are, but later) for sure in able for Microsoft to 100% commit a release a new XP edition (I know Microsoft has commited to developing 64-bit XP, but without Intels backing?).
Apple on the other hand loves this $#@%. So do its buyers. It's a totally different market that the PC market. New technology -- which would benefit data intense processing like video editing and photo enhancement -- is a concept that Apple consumers, I think, would eat up. I can hear Steve now, "our new processors are 64-bit for the PowerMac and PB, utilizing totally different technology than the current P4's..."
There is a Hammer consumer and server processor. But I am scetchy to commit that this chips will enter the market and be utilized by whatever PC manufactoring company, using 32/64-bit XP, and selling on a profit making basis (pulling AMD out of @#$% creek) -- especially first quarter 2003.
I tend to believe:
The Gartner Group has stated that it believes that there is not a market for the Opteron, heavly favoring Intel's IA-64 architecture later in 2003. Further, "their predictions indicate that there is no market demand for the hybrid 32/64-bit architecture such as Opteron, and that computing markets will either go all 64-bit or remain at 32-bits."
