...should have frickin awesome power dissipation (G3ish). 2 cents and a used jawbreaker says the iBook goes G4 when the 7447(low power 7457) comes out! (Then, later, the TiBook can use the low voltage version of the 970, the PowerMac can have the high voltage 970, and the iMac and eMac can have 7457s).

Do you have any pics of your closest attempt at an 8 lb turd?

I don't think we will see dual initially, because the 970 should be fast enough to keep up with the market in a single processor configuration. However according to The Register the IBM 970 is AltiVec equipped, which means it does have the ability to multiprocess the way the current G4s do

If so - for as wonderful an idea it is in 'theory'... In practice I dont see it being adopted widly other than on an intital 'curiosity' basis.

    Tablet yes.
I think people forget that all of the discussion of the dimensions fo a TiBook make it appear very portable. Like obsession over an extea 1/4" thichness. But if you add in the peripherals you schlepp around and you really need that dedicated laptop case. Then that 1/4" or even 2 inches really does not matter.
I think a "hiptop" or "tablet" form really can be marketed as a laptop subsitute to complement a good desktop. My old newton 2100 did 90% of my desktop functions and man was it easy to throw into a backpack/shoulderbag/eurof-g carry all/briefcase.
It is astonishing that Apple does not even have a sub-notebook.
It would certainly be something extra i would buy.

In nearly 5 years of folding@home, I've never seen two machines working on the same exact work unit and I've had various combinations of machines.

However, they might be working on different parts of the same protein or other specifications about the two were different in some other way.

OK, I am no hardware or software genius. Infact, I'm not genius, but I digress.

How, or will the new chipsets affect our abilities compared to now?

And will the award winning "folding widget" get ported?

It sounds as if the install process isn't detecting your default shell and putting the aliases into the correct config file.

I haven't looked at his installation script, but if you don't hear from him within a few days, let me know and I'll download one of the packages to see what I can do.

lol, at my school when ever I come across a computer, I download Firefox and replace the Firefox icon with IE's icon, and rename it Internet Explorer. Most of the kids and teachers don't know the difference and keeps us tech people happy. :D

I wanted to know the exact correlation between laptop use and male fertlity.

If you spend all of your time with your shiny new MacBook and no more time with your wife, you might, while technically not being infertile, be unanble to reproduce anyway.

    Definately not.

Windows XP is one of the most overpriced crappy operating systems I have used. $300 to install XP Pro? Tiger is $130!!! And it actually works!

You can get OEM versions of Windows XP Pro for ~$130 (check out newegg.com ).

I was reading this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_vista) and I saw that Windows Vista won't include the Aero transparency unless you buy one of the "Professional" packages.

Figures, M$ making you pay for what should be included standard.

    Activation sucks.

OH YA! I hated having to activate windows.

Windows Installer barely works... half the time it would get to 97% and just stop.

So many bad expereiences with Windows "Installer".

Confuses people and eventually it all comes to me. I am definately the smartest computer user in my school (after the IT guy who is never there) and all I hear is "Mike whered i save my project", "mike why is word taking so long to load?"

The one thing that Windows does better than Mac OS X- confuses the heck out of them! :D ;)

Edit: Forgot to say that it crashes all the time.

Ah, but the blue screen of death is so pretty! ;) :)

In conclusion, they suck, we haven't been hard enough on them, and their suckiness makes more work for everyone else.

You seem to have hit the nail on the head; M$ sucks- for the most part, they have done some good things. I would list them, but I can't think of any. :)

Has anyone been able to get Starcraft: Broodwar running on any Intel Mac? I would love to run it on my Mac Pro, but only the original Starcraft seems to work. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Well I just installed Mac OS X Panther on my PC using CherryOS...and let me say...it's 'Ok', but it's not with it's flaws....it's many, many flaws.

    The Test Machine

    Home-Made Wintel Box
    2.24ghz Penitum 4 PC
    1gig of DDR RAM
120gb Segate ATA 100 Hard Drive
    DVDRW drive
    nVidia Geforce 6 Series 6200TD (128mb AGP8x)
USB Apple Keyboard and USB Logitech Optical Mouse
    Standard speakers
    Standard VGA Monitor
Genuine Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther" Install Discs

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Mac OS X shows the processor speed as a 901mhz machine, but the 'lag' is similar to VirtualPC...But, in my experience CherryOS reacts faster than VirtualPC.

Pros: Lets you run Mac OS X on your Windows Machine without any hardware modification, Sort of an inexpensive way to play around with Mac OS X, Mac OS X installed rather quickly, about an hour or so (only disc 1 - Didn't see the disc 2 had to cancel)

Cons: No Sound support yet, networking doesn't seem to work correctly (For me at least), emulation stops for 1-5 seconds at a time at random times (Like VirtualPC sometimes, although this is more frequent), Couldn't install Mac OS X fully since the Installer didn't even see the second Mac OS X Install disc (Had to cancel), CD-ROM support doesn't seem to be working for me, technically illegal according to Apple's Mac OS X License, Initial setup is a real pain because of the virtual hard drive image mostly. This software is NOT recommended to novices at all, even tech savvy people such as myself had a little trouble with this.

    Virtual Hard Drive Madness

It took me a long time to even get a virtual Mac Partition on my hard drive. As you know without this you can't install Mac OS X. You have some options when making a disk image to install Mac OS X on. The smallest size is 3gb and the biggest size is 15gb. If you select the drive to be 'Growable' it doesn't seem to work, and I've tried this about 7 times. But, if you select let's say a 5gb drive and choose it to be not 'Growable' it works just fine.

Let me explain a bit. While you are creating a 'Profile' for your new virtual machine it goes through a process. You name the profile, choose your disk space, and then it will create a disk image for your OS X partition, then it will allow you to Start-up the Virtual Mac.

Now when you do-not choose a 'Growable' drive option you will see a screen that will tell you in about 10-15 minutes (actually takes less than 5 minutes) the virtual disk image will be formated and ready to use, but when you choose 'Growable' as an option for your disk image it skips that step and the Mac OS X Installer will not even see your virtual disk image, thus you can't install Mac OS X.

    The Bottom Line

If you want to play around with Mac OS X without buying a Macintosh then go to the CherryOS webpage and download a free 14 day trial. Don't expect it to work perfectly (if at all) like a Mac would, you should expect it to be slow, unresponsive at times, and you will have problems with mounting CDs, Networking, and Sound. If you really want to run Mac OS X that badly go ahead. It's a good way to test out Mac OS X but this emulator has a lot of cons, but then again it's in it's first version. I would expect later versions and/or updates to fix or improve most of the current problems. If this emulation program can eventually get it's act together then this might become a great success for the company, and another target for Apple's lawyers. :D

EDIT: I have plenty of screenshots, I'll be happy to post them when I get home in like 2-3 hours. :)
