Nothing of any significance I'd guess.
Maybe the G4 lineup will look something like this if we're lucky :
Entry level :
Dual 1Ghz G4, 1Mb L3
167Mhz FSB
GeForce4MX (64mb version)
DVD-R/CDRW
80Gb 7200rpm HD, 2Mb cache
256Mb
Mid Range :
Dual 1.25Ghz G4, 2Mb L3
167Mhz FSB
Radeon 9000
DVD-R/CDRW
100Gb 7200rpm HD, 8Mb cache
256Mb
high end :
Dual 1.5Ghz G4, 2Mb L3
167Mhz FSB
Radeon 9000
DVD-R/CDRW
120Gb 7200rpm HD, 8Mb cache
512Mb
The reason I think they'll use the same motherboard for all systems is to cut down on cost. The current Pioneer superdrive would be used in the entry level and mid range models to keep costs down, It's at least 50% cheaper now that it was even 4 months ago. I think they'll use the faster version in the highend and play on the standard capabilities of the minitowers.
Of course there should be no increase in the price of the range compared to the current 867Mhz, 1Ghz and 1.25Ghz models at all.
It would also make the entry level model a good performer, the mid range an excellent performer and the high end an option for people at least.
I wouldn't bank on anything more than a 250Mhz increase myself, I certainly wouldn't bank on there being any point in buying a high end 1.5Ghz model either if there's still 1.25Ghz models from the current range going for a song at the time.

I get what you mean, but I don't think it's the best analogy. ;)
First Jobs has to massacre thousands of people??
Yeah, see the difference? :p
But I do get it's basis... not a bad thought, in the regard you mentioned. :)

I think I'm going to get this game...after much video watching and forum spying plus the fact I never played it for the last gen systems I'll give it a shot.
I would mind shoving someones head into a glass stand anyway:)

Hey everyone, just thought I would share a website that I originally happened upon, when someone discussed Cocktail. Rixstep did a review of the program and gave it a real beatdown for what it properly deserved, along with other programs such as MacJanitor.
www.rixstep.com
However, I think within the last few months or so, Rixstep has gone from a website that reccomends alternative operating systems and cheerleading Mac OS X, Rixstep has totally gone in the opposite direction and goes out of it's way to completely beat the hell out of Apple in it's articles. I mean, they give Apple no mercy whatsoever.
Rightfully, they gave Steve Ballmer a hell of a beatdown in a faux-interview about Windows Vista's upcoming release, delays in the release, and the rush to gold while hacking and slashing features.
I readily agree with them on many points but it just seems that within the last few articles they're not even bothering to give a viable alternative. They're just beating the **** out of anyone who makes an operating system or a computer product (they absolutely love beating Apple over the head with their Intel Switch, and it's like they find delight in everything that goes wrong)
I think at one article they basically said the only alternative today is Ubuntu Linux. Now, don't get me wrong. I think Linux is a great operating system, and Ubuntu is what i've used to learn my way around Linux. It's a very nice system but it still is not ready for primetime just yet. I have yet to have a seamless upgrade from a Breezy Badger to Dapper Drake distro, which makes or breaks a OS in a office environment.
I'm just really upset that a website that I read seemed to have some very good pieces of writing, and some very good points of view, suddenly just starts beating Apple over the head for everything they do, without really giving me a viable alternative to consider. It's like Apple was their girlfriend that decided to break up with them, and now they're mad as a bull and trying to make life miserable for them.
Thoughts?

The mainboard of the current iBooks supports clock speeds up to 800Mhz. This is what we will see shortly.
Putting in a G4 means redesigning the whole thing from the ground up. BTW, the G3 runs OS X fine, just that the old machines "feel" slow without QE support. I, too, would love to see a 13" screen in the current casing, and improved graphics performance. (I still got the ATI Rage M3 8MB in my 600 MHz combo iBook.)

Interesting, but what is this emulator based on, i.e. is it QEMU or another repackaged version of Bochs?

Is anyone else annoyed that they put the commercials on the homepage? I understand they are trying to get them out there and are happy about the commercials, but I dislike when I go to a website and audio kicks in automatically. Disrupts any song I'm listening to, kicks me out of whatever mood I'm in, etc. A link to them would be fine, but playing the commercials right off seems overkill to me. Plus, what about people without fast connections?

from what i can make out in photoshop, at the top it reads:
Magazine spread (product?) placement... not for final output. which is in common print terminology... i believe the blurred section does read: the new powerbook duo
starting at (cant make out)
hope that helps

There's a simple reason for that - Firefox uses the Gecko rendering engine, which the developers admit is nowhere near full optimization. Once Gecko is cleaned up, Firefox (and other Gecko-based browsers) will use less memory.
Are you sure? I know Gecko has always been criticised for being bloated, but my recollection (as a Phoenix->Firebird->Firefox user since 0.5) is that they said the optimisation of the code was well underway and would be almost over by Phoenix 1.0.
I'm a long time Firefox advocate, but I'm frankly disappointed with how the OS X version has turned out. The Windows version is amazing, and I think it's the best browser ever, but the X version frankly feels like a 0.5 release. What's with that extra window on Expos? Why does it ignore my dock completely? And why does backspace not work to move back a page on OS X, but it does on Windows/Linux? It sounds stupid, but even if Firefox gets truly great, if there's no backspace to move back, I'm not using it full time. On a laptop, the backspace isn't optional - it just has to be used.
In the meantime, I'm happy full time alternating between Safari and Camino. And I'm converting all my Windows friends to Firefox, as everyone should start doing. :)

Yes, there was a floor pad for the NES. I cannot remember the name though... and there were only about 2-3 games for it.
I'd love to have a Lynx.. now THERE'S a blast from the past.
I still have my 2600, all the games, and all the boxes (w/manuals, too.)
maybe we could come to an agreement ive got a lynx

I'm suprised how little weight is given to the extensions offered by FF. I use several that are now essential to browsing.
/If anyone knows of any Safari add-ons in these areas I've mentioned, please share.
There are a number of plugins for safari. visit this site:
http://pimpmysafari.com/
I love the way Firefox saves complete Web pages.
I don't. Try saving any page that has a CSS and firefox messes it up completely. Neither the CSS file, nor the files linked through the CSS file are saved. which means that for a large number of sites that follow web-standards, Firefox is unable to save a page properly.
The only browsers that manage to save CSS properly are IE (windows) and Opera.

Averages or more scientifically proper--means--by themselves are worth almost nothing in real life statistics except as a "point" in here and there, but IMHO the median is more significant than mean. I have yet to see a normalized distribution, a linear regression, a standardized distribution, or anything other than just the mean. If everyone used SPEC [http://www.specbench.org/] to benchmark computers, it would make life much simpler in benchmark statistics. Now to find out in a pretty much standard benchmarking suite [SPEC] what σ [standard deviation, in this case] are for all computers measured to figure out what area the Power Macs are in--in percentiles and compare to the rest of the computers tested. Now that'd be a lot more significant.
Yes I know about that redundancy of means and averages, but I've also heard them spoken in the same sentence before as well in that manner. Though Spec benchmarks are based on tests that assume processes that have zero errors, a non-realistic assumption, and thus don't show what really can happen to code on a Pentium vs. a G4. They unfairly bias the Pentium because its very weakness is its error checking which gets stuck in its more numerous stages. Most all code you are going to run across has some minor errors, and it is up to the processor to decide whether or not they are significant enough to terminate the program. I wouldn't trust a benchmark unless it used realistic code.

I have always been a fan of microsoft AND apple. A lot of the critisicm of MS must be down to jeolousy, surely. If your product is used on just about every PC in the world that is one hell of an accomplishment. I like the fact that I can use software from differant manufacturers and when I right click (the mouse) I ALWAYS get properties and I can copy , paste between the programmes. ie they all work together as if they are part of one big suite. I am talking from CAD software to graphics, to word processing programmes. I am yet to find out how apple software goes, its OK but I don't find it as intuitive as MS. We need both MS and Apple though, apple has always been that annoying thorn in MS side which keeps them honest...

I routinely hack into your dual G5 and make sure that you get lots of Tinkers. This way I don't feel like I'm hindering the effort but I can still cripple you...:D
Your IP address is 127.0.0.1 correct?
Isn't that the IP of Quadra840? I already crippled him by shutting down his power once in a while. He was getting to close. And about those Stinkers, My normal production output is at 300, but with all these Stinkers I'm lucky if my average is 200 a day. We should all complain by Stanford, maybe we can do something about it and get a bit more gromacs.
