Apple has for a long time had HP scanners and cameras on their site--Ya know the company that sells the "e pcs." I don't this as being a lot different. I'm sure if Dell decided to get into the mp3 player market they'd dump the ipod and if Apple makes an icam, we'll see some things fly off of their pages. As it stands Dell is not only boosting Apple, but themselves by letting their potential customers know that their computers work with the worlds finest mp3 player. right? maybe

I started Looking In December of 2001 on my PowerBook G4. At the time I was looking into rumors about the "new" iMac... After the Unveiling I joined to help people (With my 10+ years of Computer Repair expertise)[Not bad for someone who's just about to turn 20], and to make comments on Ideas, and laughably funny rumors.

Also not the norm for the Mt. Laurel, New Jersey one. Full-time apple rep and almost every hardware salesman in that store owns at least one mac. They push out so many apple computers that the apple rep made 6 figures last year. It pretty crazy since there is also an apple store right down the road. I guarantee these guys know more about apple computers than the people who work at that apple store.

when the P4s first came out, they were clock for clock significantly slower than a G4, but with the release of the Northwood core and then the 533mhz bus, at least with the stuff I do, my P4 is clock for clock faster than my G4.
I think you're mistaking what "Clock for Clock" means. What it means is that if you leveled the playing field so to speak by matching the megahertz of each processor. Which machine would have the inherent advantage due to design. That was and still is the G4. If a G4 in it's current state could run at 3Ghz it would easily beat a P4. The 533mhz bus hasn't really that much to do with it. Anandtech tested and found only a 6% advantage in measurable speed by moving from 400mhz to 533 which is over a %30 percent hike in bus bandwidth. Benchmarking an app rendering is a reflection not only of the Processors and system design but of the app itself and it's optimizations for various platforms.
but is probably more an indicator of my skills as a system integrator not of the platform in general.
Agreed. Stability soon will be something the avg user can take for granted. However it does sound like you know how to tweak.
Apple is behind the curve in this battle but the next battle looms.
Who will :
1. Move to and quickly establish 64bit computing on the Desktop. Intel always has the upper hand. Apple may be closer than most people realize. .
2. Integrate new tech. RapiIO, Hypertransport and PCIExpress all factor into the race for a leap in Mainboard performance. While the uninitiated squabble over DDR buses the near future holds much more opportunity.
3. Whether MS or Apple can really evolve their os. Apple being smaller and more nimble should pull out to a commanding lead here. Much work needs to be done but the infrastructure is building and OSX is a good base. Hopefully we'll have a new Filesystem in the next 2 years and Apple maintains it's current course of action by embracing standard muliplatform protocols(like Rendezvous/zeroconf)
4. Expansion into new markets- Is a must for Apple. More iPod like successes. Apple must attempt to stay single platform unless there is much money to be made in Wintel. Driving customers to Apple has always been a priority but it must be done more keenly.
5. Continue to grow Pro apps. Final Cut Pro and the growing family of Pro Apps from Apple should converge as a sort of High End Digital Lifestyle. Support Open Standards when Applicable and augment them with Apple Tech like Applescript to automate the workflow.
Fellas the fun is just beginning.

But the funniest one is the Studio Display 23'' that costs 5115 when in the US it costs $ 3499... Thats $1615 or 1615 more damn it! You could buy a Power Mac with that money... While we here in Europe buy a 23'' display, you guys in the US buy the Display and even take a PowerMac G4 home! That's a hell of a promotion!

I am in the same boat as you. I just sold my G4 533mhz in anticipation of the new powerbooks coming out. I also happen to be a college student and it pains me to be without a computer to call my own but I can wait. I think one of the biggest signs that apple is going out with the old and in with the new is that the $200 educational discount special that they are running ends on 9/25/02, hence an early october release. Cross your fingers, I can't wait (just hope I have the money by then)

$15-$24 an hour is a decent wage, I would not want to work for $9 an hour though- but perhaps the reward is in the benefits that come from working at an Apple store. :)
I dont know what its like where you are at... but here in TX really its hard to find a highschool/college job that will pay over, if $9.00 at all for begining. If you all know places that start you off at $9.00+ please let me know becuase I sure don't.
Blockbuster starts there managers at $9.00.

Cool. Can I run the AmigaOne OS on my Mac? :)
Only if the AmigaOne OS understands the Apple Boot ROM that all Apple Macs have - at least that's what I'd think would be the limiting factor. I haven't studied or used the Amiga OS much.

This is the worst game I've ever played. Once the cuteness wears off (in 5 minutes) it's boring as heck and has the usual Nintendo lame story to it. My friend told me it stinks, but there are some fun parts. Do methods of gameplay change? I heard you can play SMB as Bowser or something. So far it looks like a wannabe RPG (like SM RPG, which also sucked) where I just press buttons at the right time.
Somebody convince me to keep playing this turd.
The good news is that I picked up Metroid Prime 2 at the same time. Can't go wrong with Metroid!
I got both for $20.

When you reach a certain point in the trail, it asks you to insert side 2 of the diskette. This means to boot ortrai_2.bin. But when you do this, the app that loads on ortrail_2.bin asks you to insert side 1. Does anyone know what to do?

Depending one what you're trying to grab off the P2P network, Limewire has been good to me. All the ads you have to deal with is the "Buy Pro?" at start up, as long as you disable it's autostart it doesn't bother the rest of your system.
I've used a couple of them BearShare connects to the same network as Limewire and is decent too.
When installing these type of programs it's best to be careful and google the name looking for user reviews.

So this mean the drives are now down at a scale where they can be squeezed into a notebook form factor, in which case maybe seeing a SuperDrive in the next rev of the TiBooks isnt to unrealistic. [/B]
I believe this Sony notebook is over 1.5 inches thick though...maybe even 1.8 inches thick. I could be wrong, but Sony, as well as other PC manufactuers have been making tankbooks... 8-9lbs, 15-16" Screens, HUGE footprint etc. Maybe it will still be hard to get a SuperDrive in a 1" thick notebook, but Apple will do it soon. By the way, the Sony is supposedly available in Japan now. I own a Sony and a Apple...and have no problem liking both.

What kind of TV? The better the resolution, the hard the Mini will have to work to power it, the the worse it will look.
Does the TV has HDMI, DVI, VGA, Component, Composite or S-Video inputs?(Or if your out side of the US, I know there are a few other inputs, I just don't know there names)
Edit- I now see its an HDTV...what kind of HD? 720p, 1080i or 1080p? I'd go with HDMI, DVI or VGA(in that order) if your TV has those inputs

G6? No way. G5? Probably... But I am expecting Apple to use 2 different kinds of processors... G5s and something else.
Apple will also have atleast one new product (in addition to xraid)

Also, middle-clicking links to open in background tabs doesn't seem to work. I can't browse without that functionality.
That's what gets me right now.
That and QuickSilver insists on using Safari to open internet pages, and I haven't figured out how to tell it FF is the new hotness.

I have had really bad ship times and i live on the west coast. I emailed them and its all auto responses and bad customer service. i left after my free trial.
I joined numbthumb and i love it so far. Pretty much same service, they have all the games and its cheaper. Have not gotten a chance to see there customer support becuase i have not had a problem yet. Id say numbthumb if you are on the west coast.
O and btw, i first went to gplay and they are the same site as numbthumb, looks like they partnered.

How could those PS3 have such high numbers. They only have 3.2 Ghz Cell processor in them. 3.2 is pretty fast, but it is a Cell proc. Did someone forget to divide it through a 1000?!?
