one of my fraternity brothers has one. no where near as cool as an apple cube. i showed him the apple cube and he said he wanted one. too bad he is not in the market for a new computer.
one neat thing about it- it is water cooled with a radiator, i bet it is quieter than a fan.... although our cube needed no fan or radaitor.
one the bright side, i have convinced one of my brothers to get a mac and he is in the midst of pricing them out now. :D :D :D

You confuse sales which determine market share with users who determine the size of the core constituency.
Interestingly, I notice lately that the more successful Apple becomes, the more I see articles from this firm or that spokesman relating Apple's decline in education, overall market share, stock price, or some such. Yet, I also notice that software vendors who had abandoned the Mac are rejoining the fold. Others who had never supported the Mac are porting their apps to MacOS X. Mac-only vendors seem to be doing better than ever.
If you saw the USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/technology/2002-09-05-cheap-pcs_x.htm) today (6 September 2002), then you may have read an article about HP, Gateway, and even Dell all resorting to incentives to move their inventory. Yet, Apple can't move its new machines fast enough.

What about the OS X Address Book? Or rather, what's it missing?

It sounds okay to me. The only problem I had with Macromedia is that Archive and Install upgrades still didn't allow MX Studio 2004 to work but Macromedia has since provided a kick start application to fix that.

Anyway's back to topic at hand....... G5's will be in the Pro machines first, and then filter down to the consumer models later.......
it'd more likely look like this.....
Pro line: Dual 1.8 Ghz G5
Consumer line: 1.6 ghz G4
Fact is, Apple ain't gonna put the most powerful processors in a bl@*dy eMac...... simple as that....... :p

Off the top of my hairline, the closest-related "spam thread" vefore the stempede of the geeks occured when the forums were much less populated and 100+ post threads were scarce. Remember the travis thread from a while back? It received over 200 posts.
Oh, and eye had some fun in there as well. :p

Loves? Where does it say Pixar loves their Dells?
yeah, all the article does is they buy the apporiate hardware to complete the task at hand for the best price. The hardware happened to be Dell.

Apparently, AOL is trying to quash the firestorm (http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/03/14/0138215&tid=158&tid=120&tid=215&tid=95&tid=17) (slashdot.org) they created with this announcement. See the links in the Slashdot article for more information.

I just want to point out that the aspect ratio on a ti-book is 3:2 or 15:10...not that it matters :p :D
Anyway, I don't think the iBook will get the top-of-the line graphics card...it doesn't make sense. The Radeon 7500 32 MB card is a reasonable upgrade.
As for the Radeon 9000 on a ti-book, i hope ya'll are right! As for a superdrive rumors that a floating around...just because Pioneer is making a "slimmer" drive to fit in laptops doesn't mean that it'll be an inch thick and be slot-laoding :)
If there are new pbs in october i'll be happy.;)

It could be that 7455A == 7457, but I dunno.

Moving to 64bit asap does have its benefits. It does mean that in the future when current RAM limits are too small for the biggest of applicatinos the people at apple will be able to just up the RAM. Intel etc. will have to sell its clients a brand new processor and the vendors entirley new computers. If apple makes the move within the next year then once again, technology wise, apple will be ahead.
Who else ehas an OS that is future prrof until the year 99999???

On the orange ad? Either I'm blind or it says nothing.
You're right it doesn't say Macbook Pro on it but I also have the ad and the pictures inside and on the back are of Macbook Pros. I was shocked to open up Bradley's school newspaper and find one of these adds sitting in it. It was in every newspaper printed and I've also seen adds posted in the hallways of the dorms.

Am I the only one who didn't like gears of war? I just thought it was incredibly boring. I couldn't stand more than 1/2 an hour playing it.
A movie based on it? The only good game => movie crossover I can think of was the tomb raider movies, and they we're only slightly above average. The mario movie was fun in the stuipest sense, but not good in the least.
I didn't like GeOW either.
Oh, and the Tomb Raider movies were among the better of video game based movies, but they were still pretty mediocre.

You can get it from Mac Garden (http://mac.the-underdogs.org/index.php?show=game&id=101).
Link at that site won't work for me. I can't wait to play it again. Remember when your wheel would break or some one got chlora?

This is an interesting thread, I am glad it got resurrected (thanks JSW), it is interesting to see people lamenting the "old days" a year-and-a-half ago.
It is my second anniversary as a member here tomorrow (feb 18th), though I used to lurk for the better part of 2002. I still see some old faces from that time, although they seem to be overpowered by all the new blood. I wonder how old-school I am at the two-year mark (comparatively).
I remember spikey vaguely, which was refreshed by KC's linking to a classic thread involving a protracted flame-war between joey j and spikey, which while asinine, was also pretty entertaining and rather informative. I am so glad that no-one deconstructs posts like joey j (or john123 iirc), it was ridiculous to follow. It was also amusing to look at expectations of G5s waay before they came, or even reasonable assumptions about the speed-increases of G4s, which never happened.
As for the political forum, for the past 1.5 years, I have posted mainly there, as thankfully I have not needed much tech help and some of the help/rumor threads become unduly repetitive for my tastes. This is why it took me almost two years to acheive 6502 status. It is my experience that the political forum ebbs and flows, depending on contributers and news items. being an election year, was a rather spirited time, with a wealth of contributers from all walks-of-life and viewpoints. Since it's crash and burn after the Election, it has been decidedly in ebb mode, but I am sure it will recover in time. I feel this is true for the forums at large, also, as some really great threads still pop up and get the community involved.
Through all this time, however, I have been impressed that MR has managed to keep such a high-level of discourse and civility, which is a testament to both the moderators and to the members. Considering the site's rapid growth, this is no small task. I look forward to continual enjoyment in the months and years ahead.

i can put money on it that my 933 would smoke a 300 mhz G3 in anything, including non altivec tasks. One it is a later gen chip, meaning it has more technological advances...it has an L3 cache...and none of this even mentions the fact that the mhz rating is over 300% of the 300mhz G3 (100% denoting equivalency)...if my 933 is only 273% faster than a 300 mhz...im very disappointed

They're doing it because otherwise, Apple products would wind up costing twice as much as equivalent products from other people.
That's what they want you to think. They want you to think they are building their product in China to cut the consumer a good deal and leaving themselves a slim profit margin. Au contraire monfraire. ;)
