How long before the CEO of Napster writes a letter to the RIAA about this? Talk about karma.
But it's still not as bad as Napster's dilemma. With iTunes, you still have to actually BUY the song for this to work. Not everyone who purchases songs from iTunes will take out the DRM, most people don't even mind or know it's there to begin with.

I don't think this will hurt Apple at all, mainly because the companies are still getting paid in full for each download. Also, Apple can then inforce their Terms of Serive about how you have to use iTunes to download the songs, or they can cancell your account.

What's the advantage of a 1GB microdrive over a 1GB CF card? Wouldn't the CF card be more desirable? At least it would consume less power and be more durable. Probably a little more expensive, though.

...without a vector unit that can somehow be made to support Altivec would be really dumb for Apple. Even if it was faster at scalar code than Altivec is at vector (fat chance) it would be like saying to developers (especially Adobe): "We hate you! We're going to fsck up all your optimization work for the past 3-4 years. Have a nice day!". The only consolation would be that Apple's products would be the worst off. If a chip doesn't have Altivec support, Apple will not (and should not) use it.
(note: not Altivec, just Altivec support. I don't know whether you could write a runtime translater from Altivec to another similar vector unit, but it would be pretty cool)

Tablet yes.
I think people forget that all of the discussion of the dimensions fo a TiBook make it appear very portable. Like obsession over an extea 1/4" thichness. But if you add in the peripherals you schlepp around and you really need that dedicated laptop case. Then that 1/4" or even 2 inches really does not matter.
I think a "hiptop" or "tablet" form really can be marketed as a laptop subsitute to complement a good desktop. My old newton 2100 did 90% of my desktop functions and man was it easy to throw into a backpack/shoulderbag/eurof-g carry all/briefcase.
It is astonishing that Apple does not even have a sub-notebook.
It would certainly be something extra i would buy.

i keep looking at the charts and thinking that the mac folders somewhere way down the list should join us. i personally think that MacOS X are fine as they are, but we however could do with and extra 10k a day.... especially at the moment since we have dropped below 50k per day. i wish they would...

What i wan't is an Apple branded 17" LCD witch is cheaper than todays LCD's, i really want to switch my 3 leg CRT, but a 1400$ price tag won't help me do that.

Just a quick question... I downloaded the SMP Intel version for my MacBook Pro, but I can't figure out how to pause it! Last night I did a ctrl-c (quit) and it closed out... but this morning it started all over! What on earth is the "pause" command?
(yes I know I don't need to stop it for most things, but I like to at night and while I study because of the extra noise it creates.)
Well since its beta there is bound to be problems. For example in the last version (non-public beta) there was problems with check points BIG problems so the current version does not have them, so i you stop it, it will start over. Of coarse this will be fixed in time. Also another bug if you disable airport folding stops......

you'll have to pardon my ignorance about intel processors as i probably dont know what i'm talking about... but why would apple expend so many resources building osx for x86? we're all waiting for the 32-bit ppc to die in hopes of the G5 and it would seem rather counter-intuitive of apple to focus on what many of us agree is an inferior structure. i had heard somewhere that amd chips use an x86 emulator but that athlon was some different type of processor which was more powerful (i am probably totaly wrong but i have a friend who swears by the speed advantage of amd over intel). why isnt apple focusing on this architecture or some of the other 64 bit processors that are already in production? if its mhz that is the major concern, the newest breed of 68k chips are getting close to 2ghz, but i dont see anyone rushing to port operating systems back to that architecture.

I am not bitching about two sticks instead of one. I am reporting that they may not come as one. This mornig I reported they would. This is not a trivial difference. I certainly would tell everyone NOT to accept Apple's offer if your system could come back with two 256 MB sticks instead of one 512 MB stick or two 128 MB sticks instead of one 256 MB stick. You think that's trivial? You think everyone has time to learn how to use EBay (I still don't know how) to sell a couple of underpopulated sticks that nobody wants? There are only 4 RAM slots. You think 2 GBs is a lot of RAM? I don't.
