This is fascinating!
Out of curiosity how built up is your area? Is this a neighbour you've spoke too before? I think I'd feel worse if one of my neighbours stole something rather than some thief I never met before. That said they're mostly old folk, Paul Scholes and a pub so I don't expect any of them to steal from me!
Anyway. I can't wait to hear how this ends. It sounds like it's all going to work out if you can just get the police into that house. Surely you'll be able to prove it's yours there and then by some serial number, hard drive key or something?

oh yeah -- and because i've got a lombard pre-firewire powerbook, i can't use my DVD player in osx. unsupported. the jaguar install didn't even give me the DVD player app.

ATI website (photographic) evidence suggests that the ATI 9000 mobility may be the next graphics card in the powerbook.

I don't think we will see a "G4 iBook" until the TiBook get's a major upgrade. Why?? if the iBook had a G4 it would compete against the TiBook think about it 700Mhz iBook G4 $1699.00 Vs.TiBook 800Mhz $3500. Would 100Mhz be worth over $2000??

The iPods are on sale at the computer store at the university where I work. I just ordered a 10 GB iPod for $319. The 5 GB is $219 and the 20GB is $419. This is an awesome deal. Check to see if you local universities have the same deal and make friends with a student or staff member. ;-)

The problem with myspace is that it gives users a little to much ability to customize their pages. I would say that easily 90% of all myspace members break major web etiquette rules that makes viewing them painful.
Things that I see on most myspace entries that should NEVER be done:
-blasting music as soon as the page loads (the most common problem)
-very very busy background images
-text in a color similar to the background color so you can't read it
-text that changes size and/or color mid paragraph
-soft-core porn that is easily available to minors

I've got an MP3 of them doing a song called 'I'm the Only Gay Eskimo', at least I think it's them someone told me that it was somebody else, but I'm not sure, did they do it on the HBO show? It's funnier than ***** whoever does it.
Okay, uh, the next band asked me to read this; stick around if you don't mind some cream in your jeans. here they are, Tenacious D. (Cosmic Shame)

Anyway, e-mail is an outdated internet technology in my opinion, as there are so many alternative forms of communication (such as webforums, myspace/blogs, and instant message clients) that tend to serve most people as far more convenient.
They all have their place but I don't see any of those alternatives replacing email, especially not for business.
Posts on webforums/blogs/wikis are akin to group emails without the privacy. Occasionally useful but certainly not ideal for private matters. Yes, you can password protect posts but how is that possibly more convenient than sending a direct email?
IM is great IF you're both logged on at the same time. And IM does not lend itself well to longer, more considered conversations.
All the alternatives you mentioned have their place and are useful in the right circumstance but, like I said, I don't see any of them replacing email as the main tool of communication for most people.

its kind of inevitible there will be a size increase to accomodate new bits and pieces or as in the case of many previous models it may just get uncereomoniously ditched in preference of an all new model. if its to keep up the running in the mobile workstation field - more power will be required to justify the astronomical asking prices.

I selected part 2. I have played 1, 2, 3 (DS version), 7, 8, and the online one when it first came out. I loved the characters in 2. Seven was good, eight bored me so I never got past the train scene. I did not like 3 on the DS at all. Wish I had a chance to play 3. And the online... well I'm sure it's gotten better but when I played (for all of 2 weeks), people were fighting over the mobs to kill -- there just weren't enough, lol.

What I can't understand is why you would actually encode something into RealMedia format.
Because RealMedia uses a variety of high-quality audio and video compressors, is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux, and is built on an open-source engine. The Mac player is a free download (http://www.real.com/freeplayer/?rppr=rnwk) and is a Cocoa-based drag-install app designed just for Mac OS X.

You can already do that, sort of. Mostly with PCs, but with something like Rendevous, It'll make thing a helluva lot easier.:)
I posted a similar article at THE place to discuss a Home Theatre computer, the AVS Forum.

from past experience, saying that apple's *never* going to do [insert here] isn't too smart, but i really think an eBook is quite unlikely. You have to look at the origins of the eMac to really understand. The G4 Flat panel iMac was great for schools under-the-hood, yet the flat panel screen was really unnecessary. Hence the eMac, a fantastic alternative for education. The iBook on the other hand is great for education as is. Until that changes, we're not seeing another laptop in apple's line IMHO.

What an idiot. I like where he claims that a mini with a keyboard, a $150 monitor, and XP, would cost $1,100. Just like the rest of the column, it doesn't add up.

I can understand how long people have been using Quark for.. but damn.. in a span of 2 years, with no real training, I have just about mastered Quark AND InDesign, by myself. I by no means call myself a master, or pro at either program, but I think I'm pretty damn good with both of them. Same with Photoshop, but I have been using that since v2.5 (pre layers era  )
But.. want to talk about tough?
Pretty much the same as powermac666 EXCEPT,
I am the only pre-press person. We have 2 Macs and a PC in my office. I have nobody to talk to about problems or issues, I rely on Google and Adobe forums. We take ANYTHING as well (small print shop - we have to). People all the time saying "well, I designed it in "Print Shop"" and I have to explain that thats not a professional program and we dont have it. I then have to direct them to download PrimoPDF so they can PDF thier stuff without having to pay $400 for Acrobat.
I send PDF's to everybody. When companies ask for EPS or TIFF or whatever, I send a PDF anyway.
Unfortunately, most of the stuff we get in from customers is not professional quality, or built in a professional printing program such as Quark or InDesign. So, I pretty much try to force them to send me PDF's which means getting PrimoPDF and using that. It seems to help.

Miglia needs to fix their other products before foisting yet another DVR solution, since their other ones hardly work!
My AlchemyTV card conflicts with iChat and I have to reinstall the software for it all the time, and even then, AlchemyTV is slower than hell, and it's been over a year since I bought the kit.
I agree AlchemyTV takes a bout 1 min to launch on my computer and when it is open it slows the GUI down in any Application.

EDIT: It could possibly be for the support people, to check off jobs done or summat. What we need here is an Apple employee :D
