" In addition, the console is being designed to provide a view of the most recent viruses found on each Macintosh within the network along with the 10 most prevalent viruses."

Ooo, that'll provide whole seconds of entertainment

So is the previous lack of this IT tool the reason my college IT department insisted on taking my PB from me for 12 hours and installing the anti virus software themselves?

It pissed me off to no end. I take it to them and tell them I'm a pretty advanced user, I think I can install it myself. The guy at the desk answers "yeah but we have to do it"
    me - "why?"
them - "because you can't do it on a Mac, we have to do it"

I let it go at that. I was always told it wasn't proper manners to harm someone you've only just met. I'll find him later in the year...

    *cough*
    Excuse the small tangent...

    First post?

    Tyler
That requirement that THEY install the AV software on Macs is just...odd. It needs to go!

    Choosing path #2 isn't a panacea either.

WebCore, like any suitably large subsystem, has bugs that sometimes have to be worked around. If it's compiled in to the app, Omni can compile in workarounds for any bugs in the version they're using. If they use the system version, they need to build in workarounds for every version a customer may have (meaning every version Apple has shipped for supported versions of MacOS.) And you'll still have to update this as new versions of WebCore are released to customers.

Second, it dilutes the value of the product in the eyes of some customers. If your app is a wrapper around a system-provided component, can you justify the cost of the product solely on the quality of that wrapper?
You're absolutely right - I forgot about that. I now see why the OmniWeb developers chose path #1 for their application - it's the best solution for them. In that case, I encourage the OmniWeb development team to keep informed of WebCore updates and build a new OmniWeb when they decide that the updates are worth a new build.

What I find interesting is that I have been reading the boards, following the discussions since mid 2001. I registered in Feb 2002. I have seen many people come and go. I remember when some people were convinced that agreenster was Steve Jobs himself!

Guess I'm just a quiet guy. (I only joined so that my comments on some off color comments that were being posted might be taken seriously.)

I visit at least once a day, just don't post much.

Does that make me old school?

On a daily basis I use 3 computers:

iBook - When at work I use it for my personal email, chat, web, listen to music and watch dvds. And for my personal photography and web stuff for on-location photo shoots or when visiting my parents.

Dell Optiplex something something - My work computer, mainly for Photoshop and Web stuff.

iMac - My home computer for everything... photo, video (not really... but soon :p), web (browsing and creating websites), email, chat, music, etc etc

I'm actually quite happy with my setup.

I suspect you mean slower in clock speed and faster at processing speed which would get more work done in a give unit of time.

I am relatively new to Macs and have found Desktop Manager great for use with my 12" Ibook. I only use it at work but it's a great help. I have Lotus Notes on one desktop, Terminal emulation on a second, Internet Access on a third, and Excel on a fourth. While I like expose very much, I find switching to virtual desktops easier for work. At home I just use expose.

    Thanks Todd

Boy people really buy into this rumor crap. I do to at times I know but never to the point it pisses me off when Apple doesn't fulfill. To anyone that gets pissed off because some joker wrote something about apple going to make such and such and will unleash it on the world when ever, GET OVER IT!. And if it pisses you off so much that you hate Apple good riddens.

I have been making rumors in the BMW motorcycle world for a few years to simply screw with people and to see how long it took the rumors to come full circle with all sorts of new evidence.

People 99% of all of this stuff is made up and 80% of all percentages are made up on the spot.:D

    The big question for me:

    Does it support middle-click yet?

If so I'll happily switch from Camino.

it does providing you get an extention for it. The power of firefox comes in the extention you can add on and consomiztion you can do. The extention is in Mouse gestuers just it has not been updated to be compible to 1.0 yet. Currently 1.0 broke a lot of extentions.

Otherwise get 0.9.3 and get the right extention for it and you got it

Supposedly, stores are in the works in the Vancouver (Pacific Centre, but possibly in a street level store nearby), Montreal (Le Carrefour Laval), and Calgary (Chinook Centre).

Thanks. That would be great if we got one in Pacific Center.

I had trouble getting it to work at first also. The instructions from FAH were not newbie friendly which I need. Check the link below. The main thing missing from the FAH directions is when it asked for memory the number was HUGE change this to 2048 or how much memory you have. I did get an early end work unit for the first unit then re-loaded and very smooth sailing after.

I also was running SETI on this laptop, your right it Screams!! Was crushing my AMD X2 4200 500 vs 950 for the Mac. Folding runs cooler don't know exact temps just feeling bottom.

    http://forum.folding-community.org/ftopic16826.html

thanks, i might try folding again when i get a chance. right now i'll just let SETI run. I'm trying to get higher on the macrumors team. right now i'm 17, and i just started like 2 days ago!

i've got to study anyways. maybe i'll setup folding tomorrow after my finals

Get the PS2, thats a pretty good price.

Get some better games though. :D

I'm gonna get flamed for this, but GTA games are stupid and boring.

"Oh look! I can sleep with a hooker to regain health then run her over and get my money back!"

    Trash.

    WTF is WU?

I presume it stands for: Work Unit, in relation to folding proteins.

Hence, Folding@Home (http://folding.stanford.edu/), using your computer, to basically help find a cure for cancer.

Mind you I live in Europe, which is a European country. In the European verison of WoW, you can play on EU servers, and in the American version of WoW, you can play on US servers. I want the EU version, and in Europe, for some wierd reason, you need a trial key.
