Unfortunately they could. At the moment part manufacturers hold lot of power especially when in comes to screens. In all honesty I find it very strange that Apple hasn't found some other way to deal with Samsung.
If Apple wants high resolution AMOLED screens for their future products then Samsung could easily say "No" just because even with their current pace they are working very hard trying to meet the demand. For example HTC was forced to use Sony SLCD screens for some of their products because Samsung couldn't manufacture enough AMOLED screens to meet the demand for all of their customers.

I see people still don�t understand what a monopoly is. Apple would only be considered a monopoly if they used their power & influence to force the component supplier to cancel or move Apple�s orders ahead of RIM�s or any other.
Personally I bet RIM is breathing a huge sigh of relief, by all accounts the PlayBook is as unfinished and rough around the edges as Honeycomb on the Xoom.

I'm not against tax increases as long as the country is using it as a last resort.
What constitutes being a "last resort"?
It makes more sense to me to put in clauses that reverse tax increases once a goal has been reached.
Use all the tools in the tool chest to solve the problem.

No, we do NOT have any responsibility to protect Windows users from viruses. It is each computer user's responsibility to protect themselves. Even if every Mac ran antivirus, Windows users are still at a much greater risk from other sources of malware. The common sense approach is for every Windows user to run their own antivirus to protect themselves from malware, whether that malware comes from a Mac user or another source. Mac users do not have a responsibility to burden their computers with AV apps, just because some Windows users may be careless enough to run without AV protection.
It's ALL of our responsibility to try to contain viruses the best we can. I don't want to spread any viruses to my PC friends. That's called politeness.
However I agree, if you are a Windows user and you don't have any AV protection then you're just asking for it.

While I think Apple should make Mac OS X available as a download, I'd rather that it was done as a .iso that customers could burn to a DVD.
I don't like the idea of having to install Snow Leopard first before installing Lion in the event of needing to restore.
Putting it on the Mac App Store raises an interesting issue about licencing - they said that purchases could be used on any Mac that you use.
That opens them up to a lot of abuse.

Yeah after they radiate themselves to mutation, and then the rest of the world, they 'll get it under control.
At some point the global community should hold the nuclear manufacturers responsible for crimes against humanity. This is not only a Japanese issue that they 've been handling with half truths and botching it up. This concerns the world. When Chernobyl hit we where blaming the "bad" commies for concealing the truth, and it's the same and worse from Japan twenty five or so years after...
Anyway best of luck to the Japanese people, I wish them courage, but I think the japanese government has a lot to answer for to the rest of the world. Had this happened in some other supposedly authoritarian regime, say Libya, you 'd have had foreign occupation to resolve the dreaded nuclear threat. Alas it's not, and the rest of the world is focusing on their oil in Libya. Billions of dollars for arms are spent against Libya, surely, some global task force with the same amount of money would have handled the nuclear threat much much better in Japan as well as helping people out who 've suffered as a result of the earthquake and tsunami... but it seems people are not evolved enough to care for the future of humanity, but for the short term future of their oil investments they act faster than lightning.

There's a huge difference between a phone (or at least a device that contains a phone) and a tablet.
But then again, everyone has different tastes. Some can't tell the difference between a Steak and SOS... :eek:
And there's a huge difference between a 17" Macbook Pro and a 11" Macbook Air.
But they both get counted as laptops, don't they?
And what's your reasoning for why iPods don't get counted here? Because they don't have monthly contracts? How does that make sense? Should we only count iMac sales if they're hooked up to a monthly ISP or something?

I can understand Apple's concern here it could give the impression to an uneducated user that it is OK to jailbreak their phone since they are being encouraged to by what would seem like a legitimate source. I don't think it's much of an issue for Scion owners though as they are probably used to sub-par performance.
I doubt that's really Apple's issue. I'm sure they're more concerned about getting their 33% of everything iPhone.
Any lawyers out there? Isn't this bordering on breaking some monopolizing or anti-competition laws?

Thanks for the tip. How do you feel about the speaker volume on the unit for calls so far? Also, do the navigation instructions come through the car's speakers at all?
I'd still be curious to see how it looks when stuck to the windshield. I've heard some say that it's too hard to see on the windshield.
Mounting it horizontally on the lower left corner of the windshield, near the steering wheel, works pretty good for me. Good visibility and more importantly you don't loose site of the road ahead. Try it.

How is a cloud based system going to work when bandwidth limits for cell phone data is low, and overage fees are high?
I really hope wwdc is going to focus on computers rather than its IOS toys.
Coming from a fellow mobile smartphone enthusiast ... I'm with you on this comment. iOS has its place ... yet with declining revenues/profits from the Desktop/Laptop lineup - despite increasing sales - I have a bad feeling that LION will NOT increase laptop/desktop sales.
LION is just too ... iOS centric focused yet Apple has already stated that touch-screens for laptops just don't make practical sense and that the trackpad is the best interraction for such concepts. I'm worried that their hold and innovation for Education (K12/Universities = iTunes U) will suffer since Mac Server doesn't exist as a separate feature OS vs a combined one. We'll see but I really wonder if this iOS is currupting our computing environment and not accelerating.

You can't even begin to compare this service to MobileMe's current offerings. This is just space. (And a music player.) MobileMe offers address book, calendar, photo browsing, and other features.
Those services are readily available for free elsewhere. I used to subscribe to MobileMe back when it was the only reliable way to get push email, calendar, and contacts on my iPhone. Since then Google services have been allowed to be compatible and work about as well. I let my MobileMe subscription lapse. Towards the end, the only thing I was using my MobileMe for was the iDisk.
Huh? :confused: I think redundancy is the only valid argument here. What do you mean by bandwidth? Transfer speeds uploading to the cloud are hideous compared to USB 2.0. Syncing tools are also readily available for any external drive. External drives barely use any power, 20W during access. Processing power? You're not compressing or analyzing data. Just transferring and storing it. :confused:
Those are the costs associated with the cloud. You have to send the data over the internet and you have to build servers to support the storage space. In return you get unlimited access anywhere. My dropbox folder syncs across 3 computers and is easily accessible by my iPhone, plus I have shared folders with other users that sync across all my computers plus all the computers of my friends. That is value-added over simply buying an external hard drive.

Note that MS is dropping the standalone Zune hardware, and moving the Zune interface into Windows Phone 7.
If your phone can do it all, why make standalone music players?
I think the iPod market (especially the Touch) will have a long tail, and there's no reason for Apple to not profit from it in the meantime. Specifically, it will continue to satisfy the young 'uns demographic, the parents of whom are not yet willing to commit to a phone contract.

If Im not mistaken every KeyNote from Steve Jobs, whether at WWDC, MacWorld or any other event from Apple has been on tuesdays. Why is this one DIFFERENT. Could we see a Movie Store on Tuesday ???????You are mistaken. WWDC SteveNotes are always on Monday morning, the first event of the week long conference. MacWorld Conference & Exposition SF SteveNotes are always on Tuesdays, the day the Expo opens, two days after the Conference begins on Sunday. :) Next one is Januray 9, 2007 - only 5 months from Tuesday.

Resolution is a function of both pixel count and screen size. While there were less pixels on the iPhone screen, it had "higher resolution" in the form of higher DPI ;)

For example, looking at System Preferences > Displays will show resolutions in this format, w/o mention of display size and PPI. The iPhone 4 tech specs seems to do the same thing, where resolution is linked to the pixel count and the PPI is mentioned afterwords.
