I used to work for a Apple Store. and yes, you can read macrumors on off time but you are not suppose to post.

Here is a program that does that. We were talking about integrating it with the widget but that kinda died.

It looks great! As good as your TV allows! But TVs are NOT as good as computer displays.. they're just big, which can be fun. Everything is blurry on a TV--just like TV shows are--and for games, if you can increase the font size and run 640x480, that softness actually is a very slick and console-like look. You can get away with turning detail levels down for speed, and never even notice a difference on TV. But don't expect to view small text and details on a TV.
And Mac OS X System Preferences has some very cool options for controlling the picture on the TV. You can expand the image to extend just off the edges with no black border (good for movies) and you can toggle a "Best for Video" mode which I always turn on. You can even set a different color profile, resolution, and desktop picture used JUST for TV! When you plug into TV and choose Detect Displays from the menu icon (or just sleep and wake), your desktop changes automatically. Very slick.
EDIT: I see you have a PowerBook. That has TV-out built-in. Plug it in and try it--the Mini should look the same. (S-video is better than composite if you have the choice.)
Thanks for the feedback. I've got it running right now over S-VIDEO. DVDs look good as you might expect, but it's pretty much useless for web browsing - on of my biggest goals. In order to even read the text I had to set the display really small and then increase the font on the pages. I think I'll try to find a DVI/I to HDTV cable and see how that looks. Too bad they cost so much just to see if it works. I'd really like to be able to have the TV running on one side of the split screen and have the web on the other side (I have a really big TV).

Has anyone any experience of running Xara on Virtual PC ? If so, does it install and run ok, or is it like shovelling treacle?

Google got 0wn3d by Apple's pitbulls. I mean, lawyers.Ya think!? That would really stink. It was an homage to OS X for the most part. I can't believe that would happen...

It's about the same speed because the old Dual had 2MB L3 cache and the new one only has 1MB L3 cache. Even with that handicap the new dual is faster then the old in most situations. Granted it's not by much but it is slightly faster. That just goes to show the benefit that the DDR and 167MHz bus has given the new macs.
I thought everyone in the world already new the 7455 G4s could not utilize DDR Ram. The biggest advantage to the current macs with DDR is when using DMA (Direct Memmory Access). All the subsystems in all current macs are able to use DMA that means in a new G4 the hard drives are able to spool to memory at full DDR speed. It also means that the video card is able to read from memory at full DDR speed. Completely bypassing in most cases the cpu. This is what gives the new G4s a huge advantage. Especially when doing video card intensive operations. Such as games.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Thomas Flowers the creator of the first electronic computer?

thanks guys
i'm actually leaving the lab next week that gives all of my points. so time will tell how long all these points will continue to come in. my guess would be at least until the end of the fall semester (december)
which means we need to get some more people folding! :)

There will be a line of Motorola MPC8500 (G5) processors. The only questions are: 1) when, and 2) will they appear in Macs.
A1: They are shipping and have been for a while. A2: No, current 85xx chips are totally unsuitable for Macs. They lack things such as floating point units, which really does lower the ol Photoshop performance, doesn't it. :)
Here is an example: 8540.
http://e-www.motorola.com/webapp/sps/site/prod_summary.jsp?code=MPC8540&nodeId=01M98655
And the similar 8560:

The chips aren't even high-clocking. Moto lists 1ghz as the Max, not good at all, certainly not much of a G5.
I do not see any reason why a G4 exactly as we know it except fabbed on 90nm or 130nm processes would not be entirely suitable for iBooks, iMacs and PBooks for some time. There is no need to reinvent the wheel if IBM is going to come in and do the high-end chips. Let Moto be slow, thats fine for some models.

Maybe this is a hint to motorola (and somewhat to IBM) to get a good desktop PowerPC chip out on the market :D
I think this would be a desperate act for Apple, designed only to be used when they're on their death bed
Of course, I doubt that will happen any time soon ;)

After getting over the STEEP photoshop learning curve, I can honestly say that Adobe created a hell of a piece of software. All the features and great organization (once you learn it).
I am morbidly afraid of X11...I just do not want to bother with another gui system ontop of a gui system (think emulator)...thus I've never touched GIMP, though I've heard good things.
Looks like now I'll get my chance (well maybe after this semester from hell is over).

I hate that freaking page. I literally can't stand it. Usually when websites play music automatically I immediately go back. I've rebookmared apple so it now opens the apple store because I cannot deal with the front page.

It was fun but like someonce once described it, it was meant to be an "introductory RPG" with colorful known characters, easy, linear gameplay mechanics mechanics, player intervention during turn based attacks (timed hits) and an easy to pick up story.
It is a fun RPG but hardly the best, I liked it better than the N64 Paper Mario though (haven't played GC Paper Mario).
I will say something though, Super Mario RPG is much more an RPG than TES IV Oblivion will ever hope to be... :)

Hey guys, in a few days I'm going to have a second interview for an Apple Campus Rep job at my local university. I just wanted to know if there is anything I should prepare for, any questions I should think about, etc. It's a dream job, and something I'm beyond excited to try and get.

Apple have frequently been on Technology page of BBC News.
In fact, BBC has been accused of being too Pro Apple because of the exposer they ( Apple ) have been given. Quite pathetic, IMO.
Personally, I think there is a pro-mac bias at the BBC, but not in a non-impartial way - but they do push the stories.

I still hope we get a better mac next year. (with some really major upgrades) I want to replace my G4 but the dual 867 is not good enough and I think the dual 1 and 1.25 are not worth their money.
I'll keep wating :)

Why on earth don't they make these new graphics cards a standard size? Although they all fit nicely in the Towers, spare a thought for the Cube owners, like myself, who have a limited selection and supply of graphics cards that fit in the Cube chassis (nVidia GeForce 2 & 3, ATI Radeon Cube & Radeon 7500 are the only cards that fit in, and utilise the power of Quartz Extreme...).
Because of the limited supply and massive demand for these cards, we Cube owners are paying through the teeth for technology that is no longer cutting edge. And I hate the idea of getting a second-hand card through eBay, only to find it DOA with no support.
So come on, ATI and nVidia - give us a break. You make 'em, and we'll buy 'em.
