Posted: 14 Apr 2011 02:48 AM PDT The latest group show at the London Miles Gallery will take its inspiration from dusty old book covers of iconic written works by the greats of literature. Whether inspired by a novel, poem, or a poignant phrase from their chosen literary piece, 30 artists from across Europe are recreating how they visually and literally interpret their all-time favourite reading matter into a painting. Artists have chosen excerpts from a broad range of authors as diverse as Dr. Seuss to William Shakespeare. Examples include digital painter Tom Bagshaw's interpretation of ‘A Midsummers Night Dream’ by William Shakespeare, Nom Kinnear King paints ‘The House of Sprits’ by Isabel Allende and Camilla D'Errico takes inspiration from the Opera “Aida” by Giuseppe Verdi. The show opens in an all new gallery space in East London!! Opening on Thursday, May 12th 2011 from 6pm to 11pm, 65 Hanbury Street. Shoreditch. EI 5JP |
Music For The People By The People Posted: 14 Apr 2011 02:32 AM PDT I've just been sent a video by Brazilian street artist Narcélio Grud from Eurecka Filmes that features rather a cool public sound sculpture. Customized traffic signs in public areas enabling the public to freely express themselves musically. Subverting signs and providing music for the people. Thanks for the tip Narcélio. Whilst I'm at it check out Splay, another funky installation by the same artist. "Splay is a low-tech solution for paintings and actions in urban areas. Low-tech systems aim to develop strategies and mechanisms from resources commonly found, bringing solutions that replace and expand the uses of material and techniques for street actions."
