I think their mission statement is "make everyone except caleb johnston happy with their 1500 dollar investments".
Hopefully brick-and-mortar stores don't have to abide by the company's mission statement and will be able to fix everything to your satisfaction. Except for the shadow thing; you're on your own for that one (well, on your own except for the fine people who made Shadowkiller).

I believe you are in the minority. I know many people who own Macs (either exclusively, or majority), and not a single one of them "tinkers" with their Apples. Also, it is a given that since the vast majority of games are released for PC only, there just isn't enough games to make an extensive Mac Gaming market. Lastly, motherboard makers (eg. A-Bit) make boards with BIOS features specifically designed for overclocking. I have seen Mac Overclocking, in consists of adding little resistors to the motherboard.
I am sure there are Mac Overclocker, Gamers, and Tinkerers, there just isn't enough (percentage wise) out of the market to cater to them.
I would venture to guess the a full 10% of the total computing market, consists of these hard core, overclocking, uber-geeks.
Another thing to consider: in the last 3-4 years, which of the Apple computer lines allow "Tinkering?" Only the PowerMacs, and PowerMac Servers. PowerBooks, iBooks, iMacs, iPods are all pretty much "Set it, and forget it" style computers.

Perhaps a continuing move towards the computer as appliance. Wouldn't you rather watch your DVDs on a 19" vs. a 17" screen. Suppose at some point the base might change to support big screens--but that might be a different product line--moveable vs. less moveable screens (wall mount with wireless video?)/machines. Perhaps in the business place you could have a big wall mounted display that would allow multiple machines to display images in an organized fashion via wireless--share a variety of designs by different teams in a meeting, share ideas from remote locations, etc.--woops, way off topic and probably a bit into the future, but something we would use. Like so many of you, I was reading MOSR, then accidentally left out the "os". I probably first visited in mid- but didn't register until the end of the year. This is the first time I've even looked into this "old school" section, but I see some people here who haven't been around for as long as me :)

The thing I like most about this movie, is Steves grin about half way through after the Mac finishes talking. He looked immensely proud.

I doubt SNK was telling the truth, but I'll continue to say it; we're not going to have any online third party games until Nintendo gets a first party game out there. At this rate, the first one is going to be either Pokemon Battle Revolution, Super Mario Strikers Charged, or BWii.
Pokemon is tentatively scheduled for June 25th by IGN's (often innaccurate) listing. I'd say that's the soonest to expect online play :(
This then brings us to Pokemon Revolution as the first and only video game on the Wii, as of yet, that will have the above-mentioned feature.
This is incorrect; Smash Bros, Strikers, and BWii have all been stated to have online play, and BWii's LAN capabilities were demoed at Leipzig.
However, Pokemon is the only one to even have a suggested release date, so it'll probably be the first.

Yes, I read that (three times now) and it still doesn't make me any more comfortable. I don't trust Adobe all that much.
Yeah, Adobe is the Microsoft of the creative industry, except that I have at least slightly more confidence in their decision-making ability. They also have worked well with industry groups in the past.
This is not to say that all of this isn't financially motivated by them - right now they have to write filters for every raw format they want to bring into Photoshop, and I'm sure they'll make money off of something eventually (although it won't be like Acrobat). In reality, this is something the industry needs, but no one else has stepped up to do it.

Naturally many times more people show up to vote in a presidential election than any other type, and if you mean "record" in the sense of "the most ever," that's not true at all. There have been various times in the history of the US with much higher voter turnout, at times it has been greater than 90%.

To crack (more so by pass) the activation on a non corparate copy you have to really know what you are doing and that is when you have a guild on how to do it.
It's actually not that difficult. As a moderator I'm supposed to set an example, so I won't go into details, but I've done it myself :)

I got
Connection Error: Could not connect to MySQL instance at localhost. Error: Unknown system variable 'sql_mode' (code 1193)
You'd think they'd actually TEST IT before releasing to the public. I've used Navicat with great success (gotta love that scheduler; though it deletes everything else in cron), CocoaMySQL is good, too, though needs an update.
It's possible that their MySQL Administrator ONLY works with their version of MySQL for Mac OSX. I'm using the original from Mac OS X Server, though don't know what the differences would be.
Really, you'd think they'd test it first. Really.

And the PC market does all of this at half the price of a Mac. The thing about the PC stuff is I don't have to run Mickeysoft crap on it anymore, I can run Linux now. I'm in the market for a new Mac, but holy ***** Apple, get your act together!
Firstly, come back to reality... most of that stuff is on custom built PCs NOT on mainstream models.
To go through all you said individually:
Apple is no more a laughing stock that is was 2 years ago and anyone how laughs at Apple tends to know VERY little about them
Don't be deceived, there is no mainstream processor running at 400 or more MHz. They are quad pumped 100 or 133MHz buses. Sure, this provides more bandwidth than a regular 100 or 133MHz bus but not anywhere near as much as it sounds.
DDR can get as fast as it likes but what good is all that speed when your processor can not work that fast?
I think you are mistaken with the graphics cards... 1.2GB of RAM??? I think not!!! The card would not know what to do with it all. 8x AGP is a joke which is why it is RARELY standard on a brand name machine. Cards can not out clock a 4x port so who needs an 8x???
200GB Hard drives are not standard on brand name machines either because they are too expensive. Neither is ATA 133 because the only thing it is useful for is running HDs of size greater than 136GB. The absolute maxium a drive will perform at is about 55MB/sec if you are lucky so unless you have 2 hard drives running full pelt at the fastest part of the drive there is no difference with having ATA 100 or 133 and even then you are only losing 10MB/s for probably < 5 seconds assuming you could get 2 drives running that fast at the same time.
We can have dual optical drives... what's the problem???
USB 2.0 is not at all nessecary... it is pretty damn useless. Stick to USB 1.1 and Firewire otherwise buy an adaptor/card.
Dolby is your only real good point. You CAN buy Dolby products for Mac (they are RARELY shipped standard with brand PC) but I have not come across a PCI card with X drivers, YET, only USB devices.
Lastly, Apple is NOT expensive... do a comparision yourself but NOT of customer built machines of brand names like Dell. Compare Apples to Apples so to speak.

Has anyone checked out stock levels of exsisting models? ClubMac currently has around 120-667s and 425-800s (system only). Those numbers haven't changed much since Monday. I don't know if that's a lot or not. Could the "slim" number of 667s be an indication of EOLing that model?
Whaddya think?

When you're as small as Apple, theres no where else to go but up! Most of their users aren't about to jump ship to another OS. They own a mac and the next computer they purchase will most likely be a mac.Apple has over a BILLION dollars in cash. Thats liquid folks. It's not tied up in stocks, bonds, or anything else. MS on the other hand has about 95% of the market. When you're that big, you can't get any bigger. When you're as big as you can be, the only place to go is down. Things take time, but changes will happen

My PS3 was folding from Thursday through Saturday morning... well... at some point it froze, my PS3 bricked and now I have a new PS3.
I'm kinda scared to start it going again although I hear many people have left theirs on longer. I really want to fold (and the PS3 can fold well!) but I don't want to have to get a new PS3 every few days to do it...
