One more question. What population size server do you guys prefer; high, medium or low? Is one better than the other. I have selected a server with a low population but I am not sure that is the best thing to do. Perhaps they have a low population for a reason?

These have been around for a while. I don't quite understand how it's a rip of the G4 Cube, other than in it's shape, and last I checked, a cube was a basic geometrical shape owned by no one. Computers get smaller and smaller, and as far as i'm concerned, this is just a product that is designed to be small. Yes, it could be better well designed to look nicer, but i still don't see how a small PC is invading Apple's turf, especially since the G4 cube isn't sold anymore. I'm quite happy with my Dual Ghz Quicksilver at work, and will be even more happy when I get my 17" iMac for Christmas, but let the PC users build what they want. If they want a small form factor PC that can double as an entertainment center (which, btw, is one of the large uses for this), then by all means, let them have it.

It's not like Apple is sitting on tons of processors. They buy from Motorola. Motorla may or may not be sitting on processors... but it's non of Apple's concern.
The reason why the 7470 isn't used is that the 7470 is a figment of your imagination. It does not exist.

i have an old mac with spreadsheets on it and i have to convert beagle works (BWss) files so that i can run them on my new system i dont know how to do this, i bought a converter software but nothing i buy supports beagle works someone help please
Try exporting the data from Beagle Works (or Saving As, you might be able to get it into some other program, like Microsoft Excel, or AppleWorks.
If you could provide more info on your set-up, you'll probably get more responses.
Hope this helped

>(Nipsy) Knowing Apple,
Apple IMO only receives the chips, and Motorola should be most responsible for making the chips for Apple.
>if this is true, a G5 may be shipping by November 2003!
This reminds me to back last year with the flamepissed "Upcoming G5, G6, G7" thread, which had information about the G5 going up to 1.6GHz, along with the G6, and the G7. Yet, the G4 Apollo was mentioned to still be supplied by Motorola. So far, we haven't gotten G5s, but we do have a conference this year, to deal out all these issues. From there, more reasonable assumptions should be able to be made, and such sarcasm may not become necessary.
Guys, for those doubting applemacdude, remember what happened with APPLEP58? Almost no one thought he was telling the honest to John truth. And he was. I think certain "newbies" these days with insider information should be trusted until the point they are wrong/right. Then, IF they are wrong, belittle them! :D
applemacdude, do you have any more info?
BTW, if you (to non-contributors) think this is news, check out the Private Stuff. :p

I plan on buying a new Intel iMac in the next week or so, and have a few questions.
1) Will the folding app run on the Intel chip fine? I figure it should, considering it's written for Mac OSX and not for individual processors, but just making sure.
2) More importantly. Since the iMac has a dual-core processor, will it run as if it's got two processors, or as one?
Anything else I should keep in mind? Will the iMac stay cool? My old Cube used to heat up like mad, but I figure that the Core Duo's have better heat management...
Thanks!

That will probably be the first computer that follows apple's anti-os 9 policy. All of the other comps are going to be updated before Jan. 1st.

ddtlm,
alex_ant was talking about a G5 8500 specifically. had he said 85xx then that would include the -40 and -60 models. however the general assumption is that a desktop Macable model would be labeled 8500, and no such processor is shipping or has been officially announced.

As many posters here can back me up, the Screename service has reached new heights! (actually, lows!)
The other day, I was having problems with an old account, Joshua D Thomas (just a nice, simple Screename, my name :)). Anyway, the quick fix was to make a new one..
So, I started a thread to assist me, after trying nearly 20 combos of my own.
I hate having random digits, numbers on my email addresses, so if I can't have just my name, I refuse, and go somewhere else.
Dogbone (poster in this thread), actually posted some really good ones, and would you believe it, I think 1 address out of at least 10 wasn't actually taken.
Someone suggested I have JDT, which I would love = taken. Then another posted suggested JayDeeTee (my initials, verbally, I dunno how else to say it  ).. even that was taken.
Its madness. But I finally got one, just a little long.... deep breathe before saying it out loud... ... Joshua David Thomas. :D

Ok...hearing that $9/hour is a lot for store workers, im wondering what an average wage is for working in a store? 'Cos i get 5.30 ~ $10 an hour and I only jsut started at the store...and im on a low wage compared to everyone else there. And that doesn't even get taxed.

Here's (http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/g4_mirrored_drive_doors/noise_reduction/g4_ddr_noise_reduction.html) a guy that successfully reduced the power supply fan noise. He says that the big one by the heatsink still sound like a dustbuster, but he's looking into replacing that one too.:)

Sick of applescript programs for video conversion, here's my new Cocoa app written entirely in Objective-C, multithreaded, to encode a variety of movie formats into vcd mpeg1/svcd mpeg2, xvcd, xsvcd, and DVD ready for DVD Studio Pro format.

There is a variety of different options available for todays media afficianado, we find the format to be trusted by the experts, and that maintains the widest range of compatability is MPEG. (Specifically MPEG-1 and MPEG-2)
It has become clear to us that it isn't as easy as it should be to convert the wide array of available media formats to (S/X)VCD/DVD. In an effort to answer a large demand for a simple to use program that encompasses the large spectrum of options available to the Macintosh platform we are proud to bring you Echelon.
Convert multiple files
Echelon delivers the capability of converting a large queue list of files to a variety of different MPEG based formats (MPEG-1 and MPEG-2). It aims to employ all the complex video tools in one easy to use program.
Limitless customization
In an effort to accomodate your personal needs each file maintains its own individual settings. It is also possible to save your favorite presets for future usage.
Fast, Reliable, Simple
We have put in endless hours of research to only allow conversion methods that will solely yield usable end products. We aim to have a harmonious blend of intuitition and simplicity, the things you have come to expect as a Macintosh user.
Advanced User Features
In an effort to meet the needs of the varied levels of experience within our userbase we have implemented an array of advanced features for each encoder included.
Realtime Preview
In addition to intuitive graphical and textual progress indication, the user has the freedom to view the actual frames of video as they are encoded.
Multiple Effect Filters
From adjusting gamma (to be implemented later), to deinterlacing, to denoising we attempted to supply all the necessary effect filters for any of your desired outcomes.
World friendly
We will be localizing Echelon in multiple languages, and are up to suggestion for any localizations we didn't cover, dont hesitate to contact us with more language suggestions.

Yeah, the chronology's a little off. For example, Apple ditched the floppy drive before Mac OS X appeared.

I've noticed the same thing. The one thing I don't like about the forums getting as large as they have is there tends to be a lot of repitition which I think can drive ... oh :D
I see the same series of questions over and over again:
When will Apple make another PDA?
Can I rip DVDs on Mac?
What are some good Mac programs?
Should I buy a PB or an iBook?
How much RAM do I need?
A Mac for gaming?
It takes a few months, but guaranteed these questions will crop up. If we put up stickies on all those questions, would the newbies read them, or just post the same Qs anyway?
