On the heels of the G5 optimized FireFox announcement, comes G3, G4, and G5 optimized builds Camino (http://mbencher.ilnm.com/camino/). I compiled them from the Nov 4th nightly source code.

I think "Wow!" every time I pass my hand over my Cube to wake it up or put it to sleep. And the G3 Powerbook still wows me as a piece of design. All my ex-Macs get passed on to my kids.
I have the WOW effect every day I use my PowerBook. It does what I want with some style. I like the way it thinks, just like me :)

i know it's sarcasm but guessing what apple is going to do isn't THAT hard...add a little to the mhz of current systems, maybe upgrade a few minor things here and there and VOILA next revision...altho i will say nobody knows when a brand NEW product is coming out or what it will be.

MWSF 2004 earliest. If you think any earlier, you're not being realistic. Apple is a CUSTOMER of IBM. They will get them in mass quantities when IBM says so.
And if apple want to buy 2000 of those things IBM isnt about to say no. It may say hang on a month we need to get them but never no.

If the Power4mini-me is half as hot as the Power4, then you don't wat to see it in laptops. or a tightly-packed, system like an iMac.
If they are the same price, then the Moto G5 could go in iMacs, eMacs and Powerbooks, while the IBM G5 could go in Powermacs and xServes.:)

i've been trying for an hour to get my tivo to allow hme applications.
i put in the backdoor key sequence and return to tivo home with no change to music and photos. i have series 2 , tivo 7.1-x, my mac is updated on all the java stuff. my tivo sees my photos and music. maybe i should sacrifice a goat or something to appease the tivo gods!

It almost looks like the ribbon is just the pallets from Office 2004 compressed down and put in a horizontal fashion. Kinda like Microsoft Office unit stealing from the MBU... they're so bad, the even copy from themselves! :eek: (J/K)

Preliminary findings (after a few hours of cursory "toying around;" I had a whole rant, but I have condensed it):
Cons:
- Ribbons being hidden when resizing the window to less than the width of the ribbon or to a height that is less than the "arbitrary height." This offers no way to access any of the menus at all. This is a problem in server-based computing and low screen res situations as it leaves the user with no access to any menu items. Very bad. Ribbons also take up too much screen real-estate, and are very stiff in terms of configurable options (much like IE7.)
- No way to "enable Classic menus." This is a staple feature of other Vista upgrades such as IE7 and WMP11. And Vista's Explorer has this as well.
- Items in the title bar. Apple, Netscape and Microsoft need to be put out to dry for this abomination. 'Tis worse than drawers in OS X.
- Consistency broken: Excel uses the traditional multiple doc windows inside the main app window, Word uses multiple windows, Access uses multiple windows and a new tabbed interface, PowerPoint just has the updated GUI and Outlook has a piecemeal update. I assume it will be updated in the final version.
- Memory usage -- inserting some text upped the WINWORD.EXE process to a nice, healthy memory chunk of 50 megabytes. Worse than OO.o 2.0, problematic in server-based computing ala Citrix, etc.
- Slow. Upon inserting a clip art image and applying one of those "oh-so-cool" effects, text insertion slowed to a crawl on a P4 2.4 GHz, 512 DDR RAM machine. Ridiculous.
Pros:
- The ribbon interface, for all its terrible implementations, is actually a much cleaner and intuitive UI than previous versions. They needed to do something about the menu options and now they have, and it works well.
- Add-in management seems to be cleaner, and exporting to PDF is nice. I want to see ODF support, though.
- Consistency of logos; though broken in XP (due to XP's old start menu look). The orb in the upper right hand corner mirrors vista's start menu icon. The reason this is nice is that it offers a consistent look and the file menu look similar to the start menu. Nice, though the menu is far too large.
- Contextual descriptions. Many items have a nice little description of what they do when you look at them. This is very nice.
- Word's side-by-side simultaneous scrolling is a great new feature that makes comparing documents VERY easy. Love it.

I was always led to believe that the Apple logo (with a bite taken out of it) was chosen in memory of Alan Turing (creator of the first electronic computer at Bletchley Park during WW2) - who commited suicide by taking a bite from an apple laced with cyanide - after being threatened with jail for being gay. I saw a program on TV about Apple many years ago that gave this story of how the company logo came about. Surely Apple would be advised to use this version of events in court rather than saying it was Steve Job's liking of Beatles music - which might only make Apple Corps (beatles) position stronger!!

My friend on Windows uses Firefox, a recent version, but it does not allow him to view anything related to Flash. He has to use IE. It must have a flash plugin, right? A browser (which I like very much on the Mac side) couldn't be so deficient that it lacks the ability to play Flash?
