I've currently got 6 computers, 7 processors, 9 threads running.
My PowerBook 1.5 GHz.
My wife's 3.0 GHz HT P4 at home (2 threads running)
My AMD 1.3 GHz at home
My work machine, a 2.8 GHz HT P4 (2 threads)
Another idle machine at work, 2.0 GHz P4, non-HT
Our compile server, a dual Processor Xeon (1 WU per processor)
Used to also have a 1.2 GHz AMD working at home that has since had a hardware failure.
I'm also looking at upgrading my home PC to a 3.0 GHz HT P4 in the near future and swapping out the 1.2 AMD with the 1.3 which should eliminate the failure (I hope).

One thing I would love to see is a separate trackpad.. the width of your finger and the length of the current trackpad for use with scrolling up and down in your windows.

It's quite ridiculous that a software company keeps releasing a title in beta, time after time, again. It's stupid that they can't even commit to a solid 1.0 build. Until they have something concrete, and besides that, something special and really unique, iChat is the only way to go for me...Especially the new iChat in Tiger...

Okay, I am sick and tired of these crappy ass laptop specs apple has been throwing at us.
they need a GF4 'Go' 64 and a 166 bus at LEAST.
1Ghz G4. It's possible. ****.
Why doesn't apple just visit all these forums and see what the **** we want? We're the consumers. We're the ones buying this stuff..

i find it to be clunky and hard to use... specially the typing.
If you find typing on the Wii clunky, you should see what its like on the PSP!

The other day I went to COMPUSA to try the Intel-based Macs. Of course no salesperson was in the Apple section so I was free to toy with all the products. Then a salesperson came up and asked if I needed help.
"No," I replied, "just checking them out."
He then said that he hates Macs, his quote "they are too simple, I like complicated stuff"
I just looked at him and laughed in is face. I then told him how my kids since they could sit up on their own have been using Macs. How the Mac is safe from all the various 'wares that infect PCs. How easy the software is to install and use. How even a child can enjoy a computer without calling Dad to help them.
"But," he says, "look at all the software available for the PC and all the games."
I laughed again, "I purchase my software online, there doesn't seem to be a lack of software to me, if you know where to look. "
"But, what about the lack of game software?" he said.
"No problem, I'm not a heavy gamer."
"But PCs run games better."
"So, I have a life, a career, a family, games just aren't that important to me."
"But what about all that other software?"
"It is already installed with the OS and if I need something, I find it on the net."
I then asked about external HD enclosures for IDE/ATA type drives. I follow him to that section of the store.
Of course they had no Firewire enclosures, just USB 2 types. I told him I only want Firewire, my is USB 1. O. The next thing out of his month was this;
"You know I have never even seen the inside of a Mac."
"Well, they are simple like the OS."
"But, what about replacing parts?'
"I have yet to replace a motherboard, a videocard, or any other component because of failure."
"But, you can't build your own can you?'
"Not from the ground up like a PC."
"See, I can build my own and do it alot cheaper then buying a Mac."
"I see, and what OS will you be running?"
"Windows of course."
"Ah, but a Mac can run Windows now since they have Intel chip and Apple's Bootcamp software."
I won't bore you with whole story but you can see where this is going. I walked out of the store glad to own and use Macs. If this is any indication of the majority of PC users then I don't feel sorry for them. They are clueless to the Mac way of life.

Anyone else folding this protein (project 2363)? It's a double gromacs core project, and on my 1.8DP G5 it's taking 1:09 per percent! I.e., a 4.9 day folding project! It's not listed on the folding@home website, so I can's see how many points it's worth.

I think some people are missing the point of this new format.
It isn't intended to replace jpg. It's aimed at replacing camera RAW formats.
Presumably, this means it is a lossless codec. Otherwise it's useless to replace raw formats.
Currently each manufacturer has ther own raw format. That is how the image is stored straight off the sensor with minimal manipulation.
Adobe produce filters to allow photoshop to read these raw formats.
Now isn't it easier for Adobe to put out a standerd and get the camera manufacturers to use that rather than messing about with all these filters to do the same job?
But my comment still applies - why not use PNG. This is already an open standard that supports both lossless and lossy encodings. It supports everything that Adobe's press release claims as DNG's advantage, except that Adobe isn't in charge of it.
Furthermore, since PNG supports both lossy and lossless encodings, a camera using it can eliminate JPG and make the firmware smaller. (Just about every web browser and image-reading program made today supports PNG, so compatibility shouldn't be a major concern anymore.)
It also means images stored in this format would hopefully have a longer shelf life. The last thing you want is your raw images to be unreadable by any software in a couple of years time
Sure. But I'd rather future-proof my documents with an open standard (like PNG) instead of an Adobe-proprietary standard. Even with free distribution of the standard, Adobe still owns it.

It's interesting to see how MacRumors page design has changed over the years. Looking at archived versions of pages is a perfect way to do this.

The thread is "How many computers do you use?". It is not a religious discussion. You wouldn't want the thread closed now, would you?

Maybe this is just my OCD talking, but I don't understand why people are still calling it a Power4 Lite (particularly an IBM "employee" - yes I'm skeptical, technocoy) when IBM's already clearly labeled it a PowerPC 970. I think the continual usage of "Power4" in relation to the new CPU is misleading. When news of this chip first broke, I could understand the usage because it helped us to get an idea about what the chip was about, but now it's got a name and we know it's a fairly different animal from the Power4. It's not a high end server CPU like the Power4, it's a PowerPC chip, just like a G3 or a G4. Even though it's 64 bit, it's still a PowerPC.
I apologize for my anal-retentiveness.
EDIT: Guess I don't type as fast as alex ;)

You have to be careful with InCrease to make certain that you've got the right team number since it defaults to another team.
Yea sneaky increase defaults to team 1971, but i made sure it was team 3446 when I installed it.

If this stays exclusive to PS3 I have to say this will sell the console for me. Loved that game and I am sure that the new one will be nothing short of amazing.

I thought Godfather Blackhand edition would be just another PS2 port with tacked on Wii controls but IGN just gave it an 8.0 and generally had good things to say about it. That makes it the 5th highest Wii game they've rated behind Zelda, SSX, Elebits, and WarioWare.
I'll probably rent it first but this is surprising news to me. EA is doing a good job even if it is just ports. Hopefully, they will have a few new IPs on the Wii in the next year or so...

I'm not sure what those articles are supposed to mean. CherryOS is seriously buggy, and shouldn't have been announced as a finished product, but there is real code there which makes the "hoax" label just a little bit silly.
The Wired blog entries are kind of disappointing, in that the reviewer chose to mess only with doctored pirated OEM upgrade copies rather than real OS X retail discs.
What a waste all around.
