Dreadnought

Once I hit the one million points mark, I vow to start folding under the name Dreadnought and contribute any future points to help him climb the ranks to the lofty position he so rightly deserves!
Ahhh, thanks guys! Didn't know that I was soooo inspiring! So the sentece underneath every post that I made has inspired a couple of you and dared you to fold. I'm glad that it worked, now I can retire! NOT!! I will catch you guys some day, but first I'll need to come up with a battling plan!

God made us what we are today. In the future, we will go back in time to visit ourselves. In the future, we will look like aliens (evolution.) We might go back so far to aid/improve in our creation. We will become God. Its one big, vicious circle. Aliens made us what we are today.
God = Alien = Us
how people who have no experience or understanding of the underlying reality of the world are able to pull **** like this out of there arses and state it as fact is beyond me.

Just curious about a couple things between this comparison. First off let me say that I've never really played a GTA game, and probably won't. The whole gang, modern day (non-sci-fi), PS crap graphics (personal taste here) doesn't appeal to me.
So should these games even be compared? They're both free roaming, but doesn't CD invite a whole other dimension (the climbing and powerups, etc..)? What makes GTA series better (from what I've read)? What's Crackdown missing?
I guess I'm about half way through CD and it's one of the most immersive and addicting games I've ever played in a long time.
I know CD has its flaws but what puts GTA on a higher level? Just wanted some thoughts from people who have played both. No petty fanboyism. :D

It is so easy now to get the codes on the internet.
And 1000 bucks for a piece of software is a LOT for me, but maby not for people who make a living out of it
But these activation codes will be machine-specific, based on your hardware configuration so it's not like serial numbers...
If you don't make a living from it, then ask yourself 'Do I really need this software?'

Exactly. I mean, how many of these could they possible sell? And imagine the costs of making one. There would (most probably) be a whole bunch of dead pixels...

Oh Good! They got rid of that stupid extra window. Using expose or command-squiggly (~) always showed an extra tiny window that could not be closed. All gone... WHee!!
Yeah, the extra Expose' window is finally gone. Way to go FireFox.

Hey all,
Thanks for all the help/comments/suggestions/what have you.
It's been quite useful. As I've been reading "the mac world seems to be tightly knit". I'll wait to see what develops by MWSF, if nothing new comes AT the MWSF, then whatever came out on Nov 5 should at least be at a lower price.
I'm still pretty worried about the enormous amounts of heat genereated by the PB, having never used one, I cannot say I've had experience with it, but from reading various threads on here, and then checking out the discussion boards at apple.com, I'm kinda worried. Maybe the new rev will fix that
Thanks again!

Hello all...
I have a G4 400MHz (Gigabit Ethernet) with the AGP 2x slot, and Apple specifically states that the GeForce 4 Ti card on their site will only work with an AGP 4x slot on the Digital Audio and higher G4s.
Is this a legal out for them so they don't have to support as many configurations, or is there a limiting factor in my computer that prohibits me from using this newer card? I know it will not be as good as it would be in a 4x system, but the AGP spec is supposed to be backwards compatible.
Thanks,
RL

Odd, it works great for me at home. I'll try it at work today and see how it does. Can you tell us your connection? Are you doing it on a localhost or remotely?

I hear that.
Did you hear the comments after that post too! ;) :)
Hmm, will give Adium and Fire a go. Which do most people prefer?
Edit: Took a look at the Adium website (am at work on a PC so can't try it yet). Looks great! I can't believe I didn't know about this!

I would go with Adium, a lot prettier in my eyes and development seems to be more active. If you check out the desktops thread, a lot of people are using it.

Rendezvous/zeroconf are subnet only, so you won't be able to send movies to your neighbor as they'll probably be on a different subnet. Here's my post copy/pasted from the mac expor Paris thread:
ftp://ftp.ipv6.org/pub/rfc/rfc1924.txt
and http://www.ipv6.org
IP addresses as we know it are 32-bit addresses (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). We are running out of those addresses fast. IPv6 will alleviate that problem (it does more than that but I digress)
IPv6 will introduce 128-bit addresses which if they were written out in long form would look like (xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx). However, since remembering that many digits may prove a bit daunting for people they have come up with a summary scheme that will reduce addresses down to (1080::8:800:200C:417A) incorporating hexadecimal values in place of numbers. While this may still look complicated, it's far easier than the entire #.
Now, we come to Rendezvous. Go here http://www.zeroconf.org/ and learn about the technology Rendezvous is based on. Fascinating stuff, like auto-discovery or devices on local subnets and interoperability of different computers on levels that are mindblowing. Here comes the problem. IP addresses. Since most people have to run NAT on their routers at home (for broadband connections of course) these devices aren't accessible to anything outside. Now, enter IPv6 and all 100 billion IP addresses (rough guess). All of a sudden, every device in your house can have a public IP address (not 10.x.x.x, 172.16.x.x or 192.168.x.x) and everything is accessible from everywhere. If you put a meatloaf in the oven, your oven can utilize your broadband connection to get specific cooking instructions from the manufacturer's database. If you have tv problems, the manufacturer can get into your tv from their main system and check it out.
And of course all of this can be controlled from your Mac

Does anyone use Proteus?
how does that compare the fire and adium?
I used it once. It deleted several people from my contact list (from the server - they were still gone when I went back to MSN). Needless to say, I've never used it since!

Tell you what, why not start comparing memory bandwidth capabilities. Although still a somewhat hypothetical number, they are probably closer to providing a meaningful comparison.
I never said that it was depenedent on MHz. I simply stated 2000 sounds puny to 4000... FROM a marketing standpoint.
IBM 970 opens the bidding on behalf of apple with 6.4GB/S. Would anyone care to bid on behalf of Intel?
See post directly above for AMD Hammer. As for Intel's Itanium, I'm not sure. Let me check. I'll post the number in an edit.
Okay. Intel's Itanium has 6.4GB/sec memory bandwidth as stated here: http://www.intel.com/products/server/processors/server/itanium2/index.htm?iid=ipp_srvr_proc+itanium2srvr& so Apple and IBM are behind the pack already.

Considering that the team was once 33 (without aggregates), it's not so bad still.
Still, the more people folding for the team the better.
