So far the tests I have seen don't show it faster. How does all the PeeCeee manufactures make those machines run so much faster with no where near the noise the new machines make.
I want a new machine but that godawful noise I can't work with.
Go hang out with one for a while, when that PS fan kicks in you will think someone has started up a vacumm cleaner.
I'll bitch if I like, it is my money and I'll decide if I like it or not, not you.

(I apologize if this isn't the right place to post this, but it kinda is associated with Apple. I'm a newbie and still trying to learn...)
I've been waiting for months to find out why Steve "The Woz" Wozniak became a member on of the board of the directors at Danger (Danger.com). According to Danger and T-Mobile, a new hiptop device called "The Sidekick" is coming out. Oddly enough, dangerinfo.com reported that the possible release date is September 12 or 15 (or later). Does this match dates with MacWorld Paris?
I could be totally wrong about all of this but was wondering if anyone out there has any info on this. Thanks.

Hey, I just did this awhile ago. Specs are; AMD 1700+, nvidia 4200Ti, 764 mb, 300 gb, winfast TV 2000 deluxe. It's running fedora core 4 and serves as a mythbox and a backup file server.
Ubuntu is great, but it's really more of a desktop OS, and mythtv is more like a server. You need better control over what programs are installed during set up than ubuntu gives you (for example, you don't need to waste time and space installing openoffice).
The downsides to fedora are that it's a huge download and that its package management system, yum, is not as good as ubuntu's apt-get. The upsides are that it's stable, configurable, and popular (has a large support community). Check out this guy's instructions, http://wilsonet.com/mythtv/fcmyth.php.

It would be great to see a new imac 19" but...It could really use a speed update as well it has been almost 10 months since the last update. New video card would be great as well.

I've been really busy, and the guy who the dual core belongs to was kind of iffy about it at first, but I've got it going now.
Thanks for the info on using the "-local" command.

I was.. my father and I even ate lunch at the resturant near their parking lot to 'celebrate' Apple's big 30. (The resturant was actually really good). Shame Apple didn't do anything.
The Pizza place? Does some of the best pizza and is always packed with Apple employees.

just get the xbox with a full year live account and subscribe to a service like gamerang and rent games. i've had mine since last may and when it is NOT BROKEN it is fun. (I also have a wii and ps3 :D) coop games are lots of fun if you have friends with 360s to play with.

I first heard about this site way back in 2000- and actually registered. But since I didn't post that much, I forgot my login and password, and had to regregister. So I guess I could be old skool, kind of ;) Maybe a mascot or something. :p

Chris chmorley,
It's not just Republicans that have strong opinions about stuff they know very little about. Democrats fall into that description as well. There are bull-headed know-nothings in just about every group that you can think of.

hey dukestreet,
this guy is from IBM though(so i don't know if he would already know what apple is going to call the chip), maybe the DONE DEAL is in relation to the power4 lite and he was saying that they are also developing the power5. either way they are both 64 bit chips... they are IBM... and they WILL be in macs next year or two... and I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!:D :D
But your logic does make alot of sense.....:) i can see it being that as well

Hmmm...a GoW movie would be quite gay. Literally, quite gay. A bunch of Muscle Mary's prancing about with their big guns. They could just make it into porn.

I'm not particularly surprised that there were no new product announcements, but I am kinda surprised that there wasn't the slightest acknowledgment of it on Apple's website (at least I couldn't find a word about it).
On the plus side, Apple did get a lot of free publicity from internet articles, newspapers, magazines, and TV giving Apple a lot of (mostly) positive, free-of-charge attention. In that backdrop, it's not hard to understand why Apple wouldn't want to provide a distraction from all of that by way of new product announcements.
On the minus side, Apple's 30-year and counting heritage in the industry is especially unique in that Apple has, pretty much from the very beginning, maintained legions of fawning, adoring, loyal fans who just don't buy the stuff, they also are quick to distinguish Apple's products from the competition to anyone who will listen on their own initiative - without any sort of prodding, nudging, or inducement from Apple. Most companies, notably Microsoft, couldn't buy a fan base so loyal and outspoken. It's also widely believed that the iCult(TM) single-handedly kept Apple alive when it was on it's deathbed in the mid 90's. It would have been nice to see Apple, if for no other reason than to recognize the loyality of it's fan base, acknowledge in some way the 30th year milestone on it's website. The Apple faithful would have eaten it up.
I kind of remember that Jobs pointed out the coming anniversary at this year's Macworld and remarked that they haven't decided what they were going to do about it. Well, looks like they are still thinking...or maybe not.

Bit of a long shot - is anybody here in a Mac-user or even Macrumors guild in WoW? My wife (lvl 36 Tauren druid) and I (lvl 36 Tauren shaman) are looking for a Horde guild on the Eonar realm on the European servers.

I like my Tibook, but I agree that the time has come for more radical changes to the machine. The light grey paint around the edge is terrible. Why can't they just leave the Titanium unfinished? It would certainally help with heat disappation.
I would like them to stay with Titanium. If they switched, I want it to be as durable, strong, and light, as my current machine.

Since we're all kind of throwing out ideas here, if the IBM/Apple deal does indeed happen, would Apple (since since there is a possibility we may see a Motorola G5 in early 2003) not call this new chip a G5, but a G6? Just a thought.

While I see your point, am I correct in saying we don't actually know any final details about this 'Elite' system?
I'm hoping the official announcement has them sticking WiFi in the system. I'm actually hoping my bro buys an Elite system and I'll have his old one for free. Then I'd buy a WiFi adapter after saving about 210!

This is for everyone who doesn't know what the difference between 32 and 64 bit is. I found this on Google, it's very informative!

I don't even think the creators of the game would try and make that claim. A great, fun game for sure...but far from the greatest.

Huh thats what I usually do:confused: anyway im just trying to say it is a common problem and its not like they are going to replace your numchuck.
Common? Common would mean the majority. I don't see 50% of Wii nunchucks having this problem, just as it's not common for a 360 to break (unless that figure IS over 50%?).
OP - Just contact Nintendo. kick up a fuss and get some Wii Points too. If it's broken or just faulty then they will ship you out a new one. These are the guys who will replace DS's with a single dead pixel after all!
