It doesn't matter what the company, the CEO and his family never see the true downside of owning Microsoft products. There's always a tech support guy they can summon at all hours who sorts the problem out. Ballmer may crow how he and his family are eating the Redmond dog food, but in reality they are as far removed from the average experience as any other milliardaire is from life.
On another note, you notice how Bill Gates has no problem saying he loves the Mac, but that he just prefers Windows. Sounds like Ballmer is rather insecure about a few things.

I think you guys should think about what's good for the customer, as well.
Thanks to DVD Jon, we can now watch DVD with VLC and don't have to buy a new DVD player for every different region code. Isn't that and advantage? Yes!
And thanks to him we can now buy songs of the iTMS and dow whatever we want with them. Think about it - before we had to pay for music with which we could do less than with the one we pirated. That doesn't make too much sense in my point of view.
We need something like Allofmp3 in the western world. Something that actually has an advantage over downloading the albums of P2P (something that can beat no DRM and high P2P bit rates)

Striking resemblance, wouldn't you say? In fact, it is exactly the same computer as the "PowerBook Duo"...
An obvious fake.

after your hugely successful thread on WI members, i have come up with two conclusions...he he
1) since apple rents a lot of office space in the valley of silicon, at a high price, if they decided to move, WI would be a great place since there seems to be a great apple crowd there
it would also be good to increase the company's net profit by lowering the high cost of business it requires to operate in silicon valley, and apple inc would not have to be surrounded by 2,000+ pc related companies like it is now in silicon valley
gateway could have moved to silicon valley and be considered just another computer/high tech company but instead they moved to san diego and became the "key" high tech player there
i have often thought about apple inc moving and where they would be best...i would miss them since they are in my backyard, but as long as i can get my macs, i am happy...and also, the macs are not made in cupertino anyway
2) after all your replies to your post, you can meet at least one person from your state ;)
and if you are not "connected", then the sky is the limit, dude ;)
LOL :D
Thanks jefhatfield. Actually, the post you qouted was the one where I decided to do the WI MR Thread. It *has* turned out to be incredibly successfull, thanks to your post for insipiring me.
Oh, and I do think I'll go with option #2. I think we'll probably have a mini-meet at some point within the next year. That should be fun.
On an aside note, this is my 1000th post after being on the boards for 5 days shy of 4 years.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience. I had two questions, how was the view from where you were sitting? (Assuming it was more towards the back due to being one of the last people in) and is there any chance at all to meet Steve Jobs? (He has been my first role model growing up)

Notice the requirements that you need for BitLocker to be enabled.
http://media.tomshardware.com/2006/05/31/windows_vista/bitlocker_hardware.png
Still not as easy as FileVault, where all you do is check off a box in the System Preferences. A dialog like that is more likely to scare off your average user.
The actual Aero interface, like the buttons reminds me of Ubuntu+GNOME.
I'm not overly impressed so far. To me, it seems like all they did was spice up the GUI, and make it pester the living daylights out of you with all the access priviledges. It's almost like they're making up for all those years as a single user OS by having Vista annoy the hell out of you with all these popups and crap about having the correct priviledges.
I'll hold on to my final thoughts until I get to try the OS for myself. Right now, I'm not very impressed.

Has anyone any experience of running Xara on Virtual PC ? If so, does it install and run ok, or is it like shovelling treacle? It runs. That's about all that can be said for it.
If you're just doing really basic stuff, it isn't too bad. But once you get in to motion or lighting effects, it bogs down.
I'd imagine it would depend a bit on your system... though, I can't say I've noticed a massive difference in VPC between my Powerbook 1.0 and my PowerMac DP 1.8.

Things are running well of late. Now averaging around 300ppd. I have 2 instances of Folding running on the Xeon 3.6, but the IT guy decided he was only going to let me use one processor on the dualie...because he took the other one to Fold for Team MR.
He's got the other processor, a Xeon box on his desk at work, an eMac at work, plus his laptop and two PIII servers at home. He is ke3gp, and he is climbing up the ranks quickly, averaging over 500ppd since he signed on last week.

should apple look into expanding a little yeah might be a good idea. Right now they are pretty heaving with all there eggs in one basket. If that market flops at some point in time apple goes with it.
But at the same time expanding 2 quickly will kill a company just the same. If anything I think apple should look at expanding into the TV market and see some high end TVs. it a good market it to get into and it right up apple alle right now. Good way to make money. Looks good and they are still not really leaving there core. GPS is a little out side of apple core.
Mind you apple does have a cult following so they could easily put dog crap in a white box, sell it for 100 bucks and sell quite a few of them having people claim how good it is. (sad part is you all know it true.) But that being said not only would you get the nut jobs that would buy anythign apple says and claim it is great you would get integent people who can think for themselves buying the product that in turn bring even more people to apple.

That or you can try them to get full blown Mozilla if they want some other stuff. Web sites can not tell the diffences bettween the 2 browsers. (Firefox is detected to be Mozilla 1.7 by sites which I though was funny but it is it base code so it makes sinces)
Mozilla sucks. I've used it time and again over the year and always end up going back to IE. Its slow to startup, its buggy, its got a rather large footprint. IMHO its not a good browser.
Firefox is THE browser to beat; its the anti-Mozilla. Its small, its fast, its robust, and its generally solid. Ocasionally I have the exe hang after closing the window so I have to kill the task to start up a new session later but I would say that's once every 3 weeks that happens.

FYI - from the MS Office for Mac website:
---
Q. Will you re-release Office 2004 for Intel-based Macs?
A. No. There are no plans to re-release Office 2004. With Rosetta, Office 2004 runs well on Intel-based Macs.
Q. When will the next version of Office for Mac be available?
A. The next version of Office for Mac is under development, and we typically release a new version every two to three years. {continued}
---
My commentary:
"Runs well": Yeah, right. Emulate *this* Bill Gates. (appropriate hand gesture)
"Two to Three Years": So a new version is under development now, which we can assume is Office '07, right? Maybe the Mac version of Office will be released four or five months after the PC/Vista version.

Can some1 run this from within VPC. I believe that VPC is supposed to emulate the 486, so I am interested in finding out if they process is handled different, even though its a G4. Sure it will not be fast (emulatin) but i would be interested in seeing the results.
EDIT: ddtlm, are you interested in helping me with X86 assembly? I would be willing to pay for your time. Email me at jamesk777@mac.com or IM me at ryme4reson (AOL) Thanks

Hey all...my first time....hope I enjoy it! Lol, I know I will.
Anyways, I have the new iMac 800mhz superdrive 512 ram etc etc just FYI and am in the process of researching for a comp for college.
It's been a logn time since the G4 was first introduced and I've heard a lot of the old speculation (like last year) about the g5, but haven't heard much since. Do you guys know anything like REAL time frames, guesses, speeds, etc.
Also I'm very interested in the PowerBook. I do digital video editing and such, so the power will be put to at least moderately good use. After reading things in a previous thread like "it gets way too hot" and "it's not very portable...too big" I'm not too sure on it now. This would be my only computer if I were to get it, do you think it will come with a superdrive anytime soon? Or DDR ram?
And lastly (sorry for the length of this), what is happening on Nov 5?!? I heard someone mention it earlier, but I have heard nothing about it, what is it? Thanks in advance for your responses, they will not go unappreciated! = )

The six axis support is really supposed to suck. You like wave it up and down to do a top spin, and side side, front forth something something.
If you want to play a tennis game with motion controls, just wait for a better one on the wii.
So i say the 360, cuz of online play, and it the same game.
