installed computers...does that count all those outdated macs in poor or broke school districts around the world? ...installed computers sounds like such a worthless stat
we need more speed, we need the G5, and we need lower prices to get back some of the current marketshare
but one reason that there are so many installed macs is that they simply last longer, and as a pc tech, i can attest to that (so in that sense, macs are actually cheaper because one can own a mac which will work well for three years vs. a pc which gets outdated by the latest games/windows version/office version within 20-24 months)
mac software does not attempt to outdate a machine to spur hardware sales
buy mac!:D

That company has always gotten on my nerves. All they do is repackage open-source software (older releases of the software) and sell it. Does that not defeat the purpose of the open-source idea? If they really wanted to be cool, they wouldn't sell GNU software in download format.
Also, they could give everything an integrated name-theme.

This is one of the neater toys I've seen in a while. You run a little program that scours RSS feeds for audio links and pushes them into iTunes playlists. Sync up your iPod (or just use iTunes if you don't have one), and you have a sort of time-shifted personalized radio thing.
I'm using iPodderx (http://ipodderx.com/), but see the article for other possibilities.

hmm the EULAs would have to be signed before you buy the product...(as far as i know) ... or be printed on the box (make that huge boxes)
any 'rules' etc. appearing after the program is executed are not valid in germany (as judged by some german court)
so in germany: toilet paper
austria: ditto

It's very similar to Outlook Express on Mac and PC. It won't talk to a webmail server. You'll have to get SMTP/POP or IMAP access. Mail.com offers smtp/pop at extra cost (not free). I don't think Netscape offers it at all.

Too bad Quadra, you can let your iBook fold, I do the same when I use it. The heat isn't that bad, but it sure takes a long time to finish a WU.
Well I got the B&W back up and running today. It is a G4 500, so it can sometimes get one WU complete a week. I will try the G5 again when I get my new drives and memory installed.
I still have 2 P4 3.6 GHZ folding part time, and my 1.8 GHZ Dell laptop added to that as well. It keeps me gaining points, but not positions. For me it is just to help the project. Though passing people up is fun from time to time :)

Macs aren't a poor buy, though... they're only a poor buy if your primary concern is maximum performance. I doubt they're any less stable than PCs. They are slower, but in my experience they are much more enjoyable computers to use. You will have to weigh your need for performance against this.

Yes. DEC sold them for many years (it's early '90s Alpha came out). Then Compaq did: Look here (http://www.compaq.com/alphaserver/index.html). HP are probably still selling them until they replace them. They are pretty meaty, although investment in advancing them slowed down a few years ago.

... newer games are better and deserve a better score if they are all judged on the same basis.
I disagree. Newer games consistently get good scores based on how good their eye candy is, and that is all. God of War is a great game with great eye candy but it essentially is a button masher. (To the GoW fans out there, I really like this game but it is a good example for my point, sorry to single it out). It shouldn't be rated higher than Zelda, Mario, most of the Final Fantasies or many other classic fanchises. Yet it is because it looks prettier. Fire Emblem Path of Radiance on the other hand, was way under rated because it didn't have the presentation or beautiful graphics of other RPGs. Reviewers failed notice that there are very few turn-based strategy RPGs out there that are this good.
This has already been discussed to death. There is an ever widening rift between new school "hardcore" gamers who value graphics above all else and old school gamers who prefer solid gameplay, stories, etc. Graphics are great but lots of us don't really place much value on them. If I value realism above all else, I can go get a gun and go to the shooting range or play laser tag etc. There is no way IMO that most of the games that Gamespot gave scores better than OoT and Lttp should be rated that high. Irregardless of the system. They are saying that the new games are better. There are a few exception but for the most part they are wrong. This comes from someone with over 20 years of gaming experience.
Basically, I agree with the IGN rating scheme of rating all the games on the same scale no matter how old they are. If this leads to lower scores for newer games, maybe the developers should be making a new generation of classics instead of pushing out the same garbage with higher resolutions. Anything the PS3 or Xbox 360 can do graphically will be surpassed by a PC anyway.

Sure, once the area has an upscale mall. Where is the closest Macy's, Bloomingdales, Brooks Brothers, Gap?
Of course, Lancaster County has the greatest concentration of outlets, so when Apple starts selling for less...
HAHAH yes an apple outlet would be sweet...my family is always in the Lancaster area for those outlets...especially the ones in Reading.

To crack (more so by pass) the activation on a non corparate copy you have to really know what you are doing and that is when you have a guild on how to do it.
It's actually not that difficult. As a moderator I'm supposed to set an example, so I won't go into details, but I've done it myself :)

This really sucks. :( I just bought a new house and am going to almost immediately get it wired up for an alarm, though I probably don't need to. It's out in the middle of nowhere. :P Anyhow, if you want to set up a donation paypal account I bet a lot of us can chip in $5 each or something to help. :)

Maybe we have, but nobody has provided compelling evidence to the contrary. The Mac hardware is capable of 18 billion floating calculations a second. Whether the software takes advantage of it that's another issue entirely. If someone is going to argue that Macs don't have good floating point performance, just look at the specs. If they really want good performance and aren't getting it they need to contact their favorite developer to work with the specs and Apple's developer relations. Apple provides the hardware, it is up to developer companies to utilize the hardware the best way they can. If they can't utilize Apple's hardware to its most efficient mode, then they should find better developers.
If you are going to complain that Apple doesn't have good floating point performance, don't use a PC biased spec like Specfp. Go by actual floating point calculations a second.
Nobody has shown anything to say that PCs can do more floating point calculations a second. And until someone does I stand by my claim.

Do you have any pics of your closest attempt at an 8 lb turd?
