Yay!! lots more storage in even less space.
As for the no consumer needs, lets see ....
10yrs ago: 350MB HDD - CDROM:650MB
4yrs ago: 3GB HDD - CDROM:650MB CDR:650MB(brand new)
today: 30GB HDD - CDROM/R/RW:800MB DVD:9.4GB DVDR upto 9.4GB
These are on consumer machines. Some are even better. I mean these arent the maximum sizes for that time just what a very low end machine will get you. The fact is: the more the merrier.

2) Did it work at all?
3) Was it a hoax?

Hi,
When did the apple switch campaign start?
I forgot when it started.
Thanks.
And why did apple start it?

Read this original article I posted: http://arstechnica.com/wankerdesk/3q02/powerpc.html. Especially note this:
One of the most important and least-discussed features of the PowerPC 970 is its 900MHz DDR frontside bus. This bus physically runs at 450MHz, but it's double-pumped. Its architecture is interesting in that the bus actually consists of two, 32-bit unidirectional point-to-point links.

I've seen no prove that Apple knew what was going on, if they had, and let it go, well i'm sad, but i'm not going to assume the worst until we have proved it

WoW is one of the (if not THE) most solo-able MMORPGs out there, in terms of game mechanics. However, I only really enjoyed it when I was able to play with real life friends, and when I was in an end-game raiding guild for six months (before it fell apart). That's me, you might be different.

I am at work now. The only box checked in IE is the "take the configuration of IE automatically over", losely translated from Dutch, it's the first checkbox.
Just did the tracert thing in the command app. It says "Time-out by assignment", and it tries it 30 times.
hi again, building a quick windows 2000 box so i have the same thing to work on. can't do all this from memory any more?! and a lot of commands changed from w2k to xp. so.... ok to the IE settings. no proxy, so that makes tracking down the block easier. the 'take over' 'auto config' box is checked by default and will have no impact. the time out on tracert makes me want to ask more questions. sorry. if you want to call it quits, let me know, otherwise i will keep working on this.
is your account an adminstrator account? are you allowed (buy the company and/or 'it guys')to install programs and make changes to the computer? are you on a domain or just a workgroup? anything else being blocked on your local computer (i.e. can you browse the internet without trouble?) are you running any 'firewall' software on the computer, or is the firewall in the 'server closet' with the 'it guys'?
anything you don't know how to find, let me know. i will have more commands for you in a few hours after the w2k box is done and running. sounds like a route/firewall issue so far. we can use some w2k commands to check what is being blocked, and then create a route around it. again, as long as the 'it guys' are not going to try and hurt you or something ?!?

So WHAT it's double the RAM? they're trying to tell you something - we have too much RAM sitting in the warehouse and we need to get rid of it. We've been overcharging for RAM for years and now we just need to get rid of these chips before they're completely obsolete.
This also is true for any new computer they may be selling right now with the double-ram -- just trying to get rid of computers in a hurry before they're obsolete.
I sure hope that this is NOT apple's idea of a Christmas promotion, because Santa's not buying this one.

Now that Apple has took off the 15 inch display off thier site, when can we expect upgrades to the display line? I don't think we will have to wait till Macworld, I think we can expect them very soon. My thinking is that with new displays, Apple could boost sales for Christmas, making the displays more attractive looking, and of course cutting prices and releasing a 19 inch. This is what I think:
17 inch - $699
19 inch - $1199
23 inch - $3199
I think those prices are fare. What do you guys think?

Ok ok I might be a bit rough but the last time I played DVD player on Windows... whenever I inserted the DVD movie, there's a popup that say do you want to install this new DVD player app? This sucks too. Can you name me one of their good dvd player and I can check it out? Thanks! :p
When I had my PC, I used to use intervideo WinDVD (I think that is what it was called). Works a heck a lot better than Dell's version. :)

MacCoaster:
Eh, 450mhz x 2 or 900mhz, not the same but pretty similar. It is common to refer to busses by their effective speed (533mhz and 400mhz for P4, 333mhz, 266mhz and 200mhz for Athlons), and so I am continueing to refer to the PPC-970 bus as 900mhz. I don't see how anything I said was wrong.
Note also that Arstech revleals that the bus runs at a fixed part of core clock speed (1/2), so that the bus is 900mhz only on the 1800mhz PPC-970. A 1.4ghz model would sport a 700mhz bus... with a data rate of "only" 622mhz, which means data transfer rate of "only" 4.9 GB/sec. This would work fine with dual channel DDR-333 even (oops, I meant DDR-166x2 :) ).

I remember that keynote! A powerbook G4 was indeed announced, as predicted by MR, and I ordered one as soon as the Apple Store came back online. Woohoo! I had the world's fastest laptop with the biggest screen! (actually it was just a Ti400, but that 15-inch screen rocked!)

I'm a bit confused. Would this enable me to access my email inbox in a browser that is being served by OS X Server, so i could access it like gmail instead of just Thunderbird or Mail?
Edit: Let me rephrase that, because it doesn't make much sense. I have OS X Server set up as a web and mail server. I can access my email with Mail and Thunderbird. Could I install RoundCube and access my email with a web browser like you can with GMail or Yahoo?
Looks good, btw.

I think that they will release the g5 in Jan. It will be called the g5 ( Big suprise  ) and it will have speeds at about 1.2 GHz 1.4 GHz & 1.6 GHz. Then later in the year, maybe right b4 christmas, apple will release the GPUL mac with speeds at 1.5, 1.7, and 2.0 GHz. Total guesses, but this is what I am guessing.

I've said this before in another thread, but I'll say it again - I believe the stars are aligned for Apple to release Tiger to other manufacturers. IBM and Sony come to mind. That would definitely add fuel to the fire
I highly doubt that it will be licensed to other platforms where it won't run as well as it would on the native Apple machines. You may be right that it could be released to IBM and Sony for use on Apple-based hardware, so that it is not usable on, say, HP's, Dells, eMachines and the like. I think it would make a dent in Apple's hardware sales, but it would be the first step towards really stepping into the limelight and taking over. Be afraid, Microsoft, be very afraid.

Um, thinking that providing software support for Bluetooth in Windows applies to the above quote is a stretching it a bit, especially considering he said it at a Mac OS X conference.
