I have never been asked this question either. When they build these units, their for this region, Region 1 and thus we are pre-set to it.

Is this really the final version? Mine still says Trial Version after the update.
You need to perform the update THEN go to the wii shop and download the new browser.

I'm sure the new DP 867 Macs are wonderful - in fact I think all the current hardware range is great. It's just that Uncle Steve wants everyone over to OSX, yet some of the machines are still coming with only 128mb (iBooks) which only just enough for OSX let alone any serious software (Warcraft 3 would choke). And 256mb in a professional level DP tower is just daft, Photoshop will eat that just by starting up.
What I don't like is the fact that it's made out to be some sort of favour, when you should not really have to upgrade something as fundemantal as RAM the moment you buy the machine.
The offers not even available in UK (where I am) anyway.
If you're in the UK, look at www.scan.co.uk for your RAM - that's where I got an extra 1GB for not very much. PC2700 DDR if you've got 1GHz or 1.25GHz. And I'd say 256Mb is too small for Jaguar. But 1.25GB is probably a little excessive as well :D

Am I the only one who didn't like gears of war? I just thought it was incredibly boring. I couldn't stand more than 1/2 an hour playing it.
A movie based on it? The only good game => movie crossover I can think of was the tomb raider movies, and they we're only slightly above average. The mario movie was fun in the stuipest sense, but not good in the least.
I didn't like GeOW either.
Oh, and the Tomb Raider movies were among the better of video game based movies, but they were still pretty mediocre.

I would think that it would do okay, especially if you let it fold over night.
Not so sure about the iBook, I have thought about running folding@home on mine as well, but I am not sure if that would be okay to do so.
The eMac would be 24/7, my ibook would be over night and during the day when I am not doing something processor intensive, but I dunno if I should let it be at a constant 62C which is the temp my ibook gets to when I am maxing the processor.

I've got to wonder how you expected a "surprise keynote" to hell with the day I mean they need to alert the press for a keynote and well keynotes are for big events!

Just a question: Why do you guys care so much about Superdrives?
When I put a poll out about Superdrives, most people who have them never use them. And those who do only seem to use them for backing up data. Is it really necessary to shove a Superdrive into a Powerbook until DVD replaces CD as the standard media?
Isn't external enough for the little use these things seem to be getting right now?

Anyway, I've never been one to agree with the Windows people that argue the security-by-obscurity for why Mac OS X is not hacked to bits like Windows, but it would seem that this adds aome serious fire to their arguement. Here in music where Apple is the most popular and widely used, they are getting hacked (semi-successfully) more often than their WMA counterpart.
Yes and no. True iTunes is getting hacked more than WMA because of its popularity, but this has no bearing on the relative security of the software or operating systems.
The problem is that DRM like this is flawed by definition. In order for me to be able to listen to the track, my computer has to have the capability to decode and play it. Therefore there has to be a hole that can be exploited to get that information. Jon is very good at finding that hole that has to exist.
The system is guaranteed to be breakable as long as you look hard enough.
The same is not true for operating systems. The system does not have to be breakable, so now you can make an assessment based on the architecture.

You're all far too willing to accept the RIAA's iron grip over downloading music. Apple's DRM is disgusting - but you want to say "shut it down! or our prices will go up! or they'll make the DRM worse!" Well, you've got to do better than that - because they owe it to us to sell a better product.Bullpucky. The RIAA, and recording artists, and Apple, and any other corporate entity, owe you exactly nothing. If you don't like what they're offering, don't buy it -- it's that simple. If enough people don't buy it, then the companies will change -- that's capitalism in action.

That's not Steve's real e-mail address, his real one isn't public, and I'm sure never will be made public.
Nope, his 'work' email is sjobs@apple.com (mailto:sjobs@apple.com). When I worked at Apple, that's what he used to contact us. Other emails of interest...

The article could just say "Drop the price" and it'd sell. Make it the same price as the DS Lite with a good sized memory card and I'll get one, or just do away with Memory Pro Stick Duo (or whatever) and use SD cards.
There's just some invisible line, consumers don't like paying more than a certain amount for an item. Handhelds the price seems to be 130+, consoles it's 300+
PSP & SoTN for 100 and I'd be a very happy bunny. I'd even buy Monster Hunter 2 and VCS if they were priced (in VCS case) alongside their PS2 counterparts.

meh,
browsers on consoles suck. period. even the one i have on my ps3 with its almighty 218 gigaflops of power is a slug.
consoles are for games, movies and music.
aussie_geek
that's funny. what rationale are you using when you say that consoles aren't for browsing, but movies and music are okay?
I don't really consider Wii as just a console. the whole Channel idea opens it up as a platform for other uses, internet browsing among them.
iTunes Channel, anyone?

My average is listed at about .54 posts/day. Even though I actually post about 5-10/day, it's that low because I joined in 2000, hardly posted, had my account deactivated (just lurked and read), had it reactivated in Fall 03 and have since posted over 700 posts over what I had within the first 3 years of my membership.
my thread title "one tenth of my life" seems so puny to what you can post as a thread topic saying "one fifth of my life" assuming you are only 20 or thereabouts
but then again, maybe you are an unsightly 55 year old looking for a date posing as a youngun...there are many cute women on macrumors, too ;)

I voted for late which puts an old school label on me as well :p , although I do no see myself as a truly old school member (I don't post that much, so people generally do not recognice me, I think).
But I do remember most of the members mentioned above, and I do remember when eye was the first to break the 700 post-mark, and nobody belived it was possible... :p
