will speed be a major issue then?
or will we have to catch up with the wintel world, ghz for ghz? (which i doubt will be necessary once ALL computers are faster than the needs of people)
Exactly why I am still with mac. Just waiting until speed isnt an issue, because all comps will be fast as hell, and OS is more important. Waiting for that and a real Kazaa client for mac (and not iSwipe)...

It's about the same speed because the old Dual had 2MB L3 cache and the new one only has 1MB L3 cache. Even with that handicap the new dual is faster then the old in most situations. Granted it's not by much but it is slightly faster. That just goes to show the benefit that the DDR and 167MHz bus has given the new macs.
I thought everyone in the world already new the 7455 G4s could not utilize DDR Ram. The biggest advantage to the current macs with DDR is when using DMA (Direct Memmory Access). All the subsystems in all current macs are able to use DMA that means in a new G4 the hard drives are able to spool to memory at full DDR speed. It also means that the video card is able to read from memory at full DDR speed. Completely bypassing in most cases the cpu. This is what gives the new G4s a huge advantage. Especially when doing video card intensive operations. Such as games.

Steve Jobs' email address is pretty public.
That's not Steve's real e-mail address, his real one isn't public, and I'm sure never will be made public.

If you live in the United States, I doubt it. If you said, that's it, I'm giving up, sat at home and did nothing and ate nothing, I would imagine someone would care enough to send you to a psychiatric hospital.
Judging by the amount of homeless I've seen begging on the street, I doubt it.
Of course if you REALLY wanted to have a roof over your head, all you have to do is commit a crime. They even gots cable TV!

I started folding for this team in 2002 and I don't have the most points since I started back when the points weren't very high, but my machines have done quite a few work units over the years.

Do it. Except for real. :D
Good luck! I think you have all of MacRumors behind you now! For a little clarification, you do see your console's serial number is on your wireless network?
Daniel.

It's certainly cheaper than putting a store in the Philadelphia city limits.
Yes, it is......but I want an Apple Store outside or within the
Harrisburg/Lancaster/Lebanon city limits. :o :)

the 90 day return policy only applies to computers, tv's, mp3 players, cell phones, cameras and the like. game systems are covered for life, so i would be comfortable buying one from costco now. also, should the system break down on you in a month or two years from now or ever, you don't have to deal with microsoft. simply return it and get another. and who knows, it may even be cheaper later on, so you might get some money back (!).
Life time warranty? I wish I had a Costco near me.

For those of you saying "Why don't they bin the Premium?", reread his post
Eventually Elite hardware (in white plastics) will take the role of the Xbox Premium. That is to say, after the Elite is launched and sold out, future Xbox Premiums will have 120GB / HDMI.
We do not yet know exactly when 120GB / HDMI will become the standard for Premium, but it is loosely estimated to be late summer or fall. They are replacing the Premium, but, from what I can see, only after they've run out of current Premium hardware

I still think it could be a hoax or April Fool's Joke...and still don't care either way. Had a great coop session today with a friend on GeOW...played through 3 acts...too bad it was on my old boring white 360 :D
The 360 that's out now plays really good games NOW. Get it and play...don't talk about playing or whine about playing or think about playing. There's great games out now...and the 360 out now will play Halo 3 still when it arrives (if it arrives this year).
Having played games at 1080i and 720p I'll still choose 720p even if the system supports 1080p...the games to me play better in 720p...and my 32 inch CRT HDTV shows no difference between 1080 and 720 p tested with my Sony FX1 HD camcorder.
Even IF they come out with the larger hard drive I'd still save money and buy a apple TV. I'd rather use iTunes with my current Season Passes and all anyways.
Guys, get one now if you have the funds...the games are great and it's a lot of fun to play and not fret about when/if updates are coming :D

Cool, now we know for sure that Apple will never use IBM's high end cpu's in any future PowerMac.
Why? They cannot implement AltiVec into Power4 processors! OS X would be slow on those machines because it is optimized for AltiVec, Dual G4's etc. Apple's programmers would have to do everything from beggining and consumers would suffer. No more AltiVec enhanced scrolling, MPEG-2 encoding, real-time effects with FCP, fast iMovie rendering, iTunes...
Not to mention other pissed off 3rd party developers (especially Adobe)! So shut up about IBM chips, its not going to happen! Macs would become overally slower then with G4's.
As for revolution (aka new powermac which is 2x faster then anything before). Well, its not going to happen either. Marketing doesn't allow it, overall manufacturing costs dont allow it and many other things dont allow it. It is always going to be like this.. So, 20% speed bump is best we will ever get, which is ok with me.

It keeps me paid though. As long as people are not computer-literate, I'm still in a job.
My only wish is that we used Linux or Apple computers, just because I only would have to set the machine up ONCE, and never have to worry about any security issues or computer crashes, and all the other headaches that Windows entails. Also, remote desktop would be AWESOME and having a Powermac G5 to run it with would be super awesome.
Windows as a platform is just a compromise. Everyone is too afraid to take the leap off the sinking ship and swim to another ship. Nobody realizes that OpenOffice and StarOffice and the other productivity suites open and use Microsoft Office files, and you don't need to pay $400 per license. It's sad.

After plugging in external speakers and enjoying good audio performance for about 8 hours (i recieved my G4 two weeks ago)
they suddenly began emiting an extremely loud digital distortion sound! The audio is completely ruined, it has dropped one channel completely and the other is constantly screeching, this only happens with the headphone jack and the speaker jack at the rear and not the built in speaker. Worse still IT HAS DESTROYED ONE OF MY BRAND NEW SPEAKERS!
I have read on the apple support discussion board that many people are suffering the same problems, some have also been able to 'fix' it by plugging & unplugging their speakes, i tried this and it has no effect.
Audio editing is one of the reasons i got the G4 in the first place and this has rendered the machine utterly useless for this task. I do not know weather to send it back or wait for a fix (though it sounds like its a hardware problem).
I am shocked (after 6 years useing Apple computers) that so many new machines have shipped with this fault . I am also concerned that they appear not to have adressed this problem on their support pages, a very bad move ( particularly in the light of your recent takeover of Emagic, makers of Audio Platinum). This could easily undermine Apples reputation among audio professionals.
All i can say is that i will now be contacting the Applestore where i purchassed the machine for some answers, i fear the worst. Lets hope it's not a sign of things to come!
Does anybody else have the same problem? Or any suggestions as to what could be causeing it?
Thankyou for your time,
