If the people can continue to think that it's an alien conspiracy making Apple overclock CPUs, I say let them live in their fantasy world - real life probably isn't too pretty for them anyway.

Here is my output, so, if someone with a DDRAM system wants to post theirs :
Time on my system = 40.4s (quicker than previously stated system 56.9s.
I know the systems are differently configured, + so its not a fair test really.

I'd say they've got the creative market sewn up (with the help of Adobe) and the only thing they might start to need to make is HDTVs for Post production...Actually, I just got a big, glossy catalogue in the mail the other day from Sony. They've now got a pretty complete video suite, including counterparts to Final Cut, GarageBand and other components. No Sony version of Shake, but they do have pre-made motion backgrounds, which Apple has not yet got into.
Looks like a concerted effort to give Apple and Adobe a run for their money in the video market.
I knew this wouldn't take long, why is it that people just can't accept the fact that Apple products are worth their cost. Must be a PC thing, because every PC user I know throws that in my face. They think everything should be little or no cost, face it, Apple is a quality machine not some POS box made up of cheapest bidder parts. Some industry experts think that Apple is close to saturating the high end market, and the only place left for them to expand (in computers) is the lower end. That doesn't mean cheap junk...just that they may have to accept lower margins on things like Mac minis if they want to continue to expand their market share beyond 5% or so.
It would probably be a smart move on their part. Better to slowly expand, at a little less profit per machine, than to remain satisfied with the status quo. More people buying Macs means more people buying Mac software, like iLife and OS X upgrades...and eventually, more Macs....

i'm really interested to purchase an portable apple machine in the next month or two, so i checked out some prices at amazon.com
why does their site report that (from what i can see) all but one ibook model is 'This item is not stocked or has been discontinued'.
does this mean that updated models are on the way or are amazon.com genuinely 'out-of-stock'.

where did you decide to go? Did you get any scholarships?
I did get a scholarship and it definitely determined where I'm going.
I didn't qualify for need based aid at any college I got into, but Denison University awarded me a full academic merit scholarship. (It's a lot, in excess of $35k each year.) The only thing I'll have to pay is $200 for room and board every semester.
I didn't get any money from the other colleges, although I did receive several smaller, outside scholarships.
I'll be enrolling in Denison this August.

Does it constantly use your internet connection to download?
If I use my old imac (800Mhz G4, will it be of any use)?
Yes the 800mhz machine will help. It uses the internet to download and upload Work units when done one. It is very small amount of data normally under 2mb and it does not use the internet all the time it only uses it after every WU which can last anywhere from a couple hours to a couple days.

You think that's bad? In Italy, when someone goes against the "will" of the federal labor union, they're found with a bullet in their head.
Just thought I'd let you know that. :D
PS-In a two week trip to Italy last summer, I was delayed by TWO transport labor strikes...according to locals, this happens regularly. You might wonder how they get stuff done if this happens so often. The short answer is that they don't.

You know that when the G5 comes out that PowerMacs are likely to be the first to get them. And not to mention they're sure have dual-processors in them. :p

Too funny. They interview a taxi driver about the Apple v Apple lawsuit, thinking he's a technology expert.

More importantly in that thread, the dual-867 goes to 1067, which completely defeats the purpose of buying the 1GHz, especially when dual-1GHz can only be overclocked to 1167. The dual-1.25 will probably run at 1.5GHz with more cooling, but runs extremely well at 1.3GHz.
Someone could make a lot of money buying a thousand of these, modding them, then jacking the price up $200-$300 and reselling them at their overclocked state.

Oh Good! They got rid of that stupid extra window. Using expose or command-squiggly (~) always showed an extra tiny window that could not be closed. All gone... WHee!!

You can just wander into any store, say "I want a PS3 when it comes", and they'll give you a pre-order. They're really struggling to shift them. Tbh, why they're opening at midnight, I don't know - they could do a normal 9-8 on launch day with the way they're going
I think midnight openings are very little to do with demand. It's all PR.

There is an update for the PS3 Folding client, available if you attempt to launch Folding. If the completion time estimates are as accurate as they have been thus far, a usual 287 pt. WU now takes <6 hours instead of about 8 hours.:)

MrMacman:
Perhaps you missed it the first few times around, but Athlons are available at speeds of 2400+ (2.0ghz) and there are even a few 2600+ (2.13ghz) models out there. Why does it matter if they overclocked an old Athlon to 1.6ghz? Tell you what, to make it fair why don't we add in my overclocked dual 800?

Oh, I thought you were having a pun battle with me. You know... "point".
I was just showing that whathisface's comment was redundant after someguy had already said he recieved an email from steve. The 'point 'was to push my post to the '1 character' minimum.
Yes, now in retrospect I just look like a tool.
:D
The pun was intended, I just didn't get what you meant. It's all clear now though. ;)

and i got a lot of posts arguing with eye in the past about the PDA...sometimes i got downright mad!!!
i am passionate about apple as a business first and computer maker second...and i believe a PDA can bring apple more money and ignoring a PDA is like tossing money in the sea because palm was having a weak vulnerable moment in those days...but that moment passed and palm recovered and that window of opportunity passed, for now
i do like the ipod, even though many mac people thought it would not work
and now i find out eye was doing that just for fun :)
