has anyone heard about apple solving the
noise issue they have with OSX?
Also:
has anyone experienced a strange audio
click or tick when moving windows around or
scrolling windows and also moving the cursor
over links on a web page? i had my stereo
connected to my mac and i heard the click/tick
through my stereo speakers...it even happened
when turned mute on.

I would think that by the time Intel do inflict the P5 upon that we'll be if not running machines with Apples next generation PPC at that time, then they'll be right around the corner......
And yep I joined akira's site...... although I won't be using it like I do mr...... and as akira said, it's not a rumour site, it's a discussion and problem site about current technical issues and hardware and software...... He seem alot more chilled over at his site..... so that's cool.... :)

sorry, did a quick search for idont.com but it comes up with everyone who mistypes "idont"!
When I search for "idont.com," the top two hits (besides this one) are the MacBytes article about it from this morning and yesterday's thread that I linked above.
No biggie...but discussion should carry on in one of the original threads.

It does take a long time to load on older g3 systems. And after it loads, if you are a fast typer, you can type faster then it can display what you type.

That's exactly my point. The 3rd party docking stations essentially have plugs that go into the existing ports with them duplicated on the back - the side ports are impossible to do without a side-bracket thingie. This is an unwieldy solution at best.
Most PC notebooks have a connector that covers all the ports. You slide the laptop into the dock - into the ONE connector and it replicates all the ports in the back of the dock. Just strikes me as a bit unusual that Apple haven't designed the PB around that concept - surely there are many computing pros who have a workstation at a desk (monitor, keyboard, network, mouse, printer, USB & Firewire peripherals plugged in) but would like the flexibility of being able to pick their machine up and go without having to bother with 8 things that are plugged in.
You COULD use an Apple display as a sort of quasi-dock, but that still doesn't cover the lot.

The ATI Radon 9700 certainly blows away the GForce 4 MX for both Mac and PC. For PC, it even blows away the GForce 4 Ti4600 in some tests. Overall, I would definitely buy the ATI 9700 over the GForce 4MX if you could afford its heafty pricetag.

I have added a couple of more MacBooks to the group.
The portables seem to run at full fan speed whe the SMP client is running.
I have seem to be getting about 6 to 7 percent failure to complete a unit but to date all of my 9 machines seem to be able to run the units and other applications.
I haven't had any of the issues that trainguy77 has described.

Sherman, specs aren't everything. We just want a machine that is able to do lots of good video editing and MPEG3 creation. The Powerbook is quite capable of it. Naturally we'll get tweaks every 6 months to a year, and that's appreciated...it brings down the price of the older machines and gives those who desire a little more speed the ability to get it. If you need it today, go get it, if you can wait a bit, wait a bit. Note of course that beginning January new machines made then will no longer be able to boot into Mac OS 9, though will have Classic. So if you need 9, get a machine today, and hope for upgrades later. And start saving for Mac OS X application updates.

Just so you know this is not a patent yet, but rather a patent application. The patent process is annoying slow, but under new rules that within 18 months your application is published for the public to view. You can also have it published earlier if you want. The upshot of this is that if you get the patent issued you can claim royalties from the date of publication. This is also a new patent since it was filed in Feb of this year.

The Register (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=5267) is reporting that 15" iMacs are being phased out and 17" iMacs are being phased in.
They also say that 19" iMac is due for launch in the 4th quarter.
Their source is apparently the Taiwanese press...
sorry that link should have been called the inquirer as it points there...
more haste less speed...
thanks petee

we should have a poll sometime about which browser you use. I'm sure we've had them in the past but with the progress firefox has been making it would be interesting to see the differences. I'm using safari since it works fine for me and i don't find any noticeable speed difference than firefox, plus i like the look of it better. but if firefox does anything drastically cool i might switch and try it for awhile.
added: i checked out the new build. It looks good however i use tabs a lot and i like to close them with the little x in safari. is there any way to get that on firefox?
thanks

There was even one topic wth the title "Dual 867 and Fire" or something to that affect. The attitude isn't necessary and you still haven't given me any real info. Are the chips in the new PMs different than previous G4s? Perhaps it is an issue with trying to implement DDR memory in the new machine? I wasn't being a d!ck so just chill out. I'll ask my question again: What's up with thew PowerMacs and all the probs? The Quicksilvers and Graphites were so solid. ...the 1.25GHz chip is an MPC 7455A. No one outside of the industry (and not many in it, I would imagine) knows what changes were made going from " " to "A". As for the dual 867 being overclocked, that would certainly mean that the old dual 1GHz was overclocked because they used the same chips. However, since Motorola officially says the 7455 (not A) will go up to 1GHz, anything up to 1GHz is not overclocked. As for the heat. I agree, wtf is up with that? It has a GIANT heatsink with a large fan blowing directly on it, plus 3 more fans in the case. No embedded chip (which is what the G4+ is) should ever make that much heat. If this was the GPUL (<---dumb name), I could understand it, since the POWER4 that the GPUL is based on dissipates 125 watts. So, that leaves the question: What the hell makes so much heat in the new PowerMacs?

Panic Software (www.panic.com (http://www.panic.com/)) gets my vote. (...) Go, Panic, Go.
I agree. Audion was my Mp3 player of choice in the pre-OsX days... they abandoned it though, and now it's free... I use it again now... just to pre-sort "new" MP3s so I don't mess up my iTunes library...

I have a hard time finding a PC that has a firewire port, has a 15+ inch screen, a 4 hour+ battery life (max.) and doesn't weigh your portable TV.
Oh, and my iBook has a flexible handle. :D
As for speed issues, when was the last time you erased your iBook/Powerbook Hard Drive and started from zero? I did earlier today and reinstalled 10.1 on my iBook 466, and speed is a much less great issue. I would probably put what sparkley said as my signature
>the same damn reasons i DONT want a PC EVER AGAIN!!! total crap for software that spies on everything you do, encourages lamer pirates, and makes your 642GHz machine perform like a 486. no thank you.
but I'm supporting Disturbed right now. :)
As for all the flamepiss posts, I had to report one in another thread, which I think got edited some way through this post, because of either car analogies, or personal issues. I don't give a sh** who started it, but posts like that do not belong here.
The other thread was Apple Inc. Rumors > [Apple layoffs or something].

Moto was killing themselves to get to 1.25 GHz so 2.0 is out for January. You'll be lucky to see 1.0, 1.25, and 1.5. The "only boot in X" thing is marketing hype. The GPUL is real, but not ready until MWNY (Boston?) along with Apps & OS 10.3 optimized for 64 bit and some amazing high-end graphics demos.

I am confused after reading all the posts over the past month or so...is the 1.25 GHz dual G4 going to be actually that slow? What is it as slow as...a 1.7 Ghz Celeron...or worse...a 66MHz PowerMac 6100?

Then apple would just call their current g4 for G4 8000+
since its over 90% faster than the fastest pentium 4

Speed does not matter. I could have stayed on my P3 500 if I wanted "Speed", but went to a PB 400. That PB was far more useful. My Dual 867 is nice and speedy too, and I can say, its a heck of a lot faster than me. I don't need a brick to get work done.
