OK... Is this normal????
I found out about folding from a sig and decided to give it a try. I downloaded Increase on my C2D MB did some adjusting based on the tips, and then got it going.
Right now the the MB is hot and the fan is fairly loud.
Is it normal to have this many cores listed in the Activity moniter????You only should have 2 cores. When you have 13 cores... You probably have installed it more then once. Or you still have old folding apps which have gone bad when quitting these. Stop all folding in Increase or type remove in the terminal. It should be o.k. then. Maybe you will need to startup increase again and it probably download a couple of new WU. Furthermore your laptop will run hot. The processor is pomping data and is at it 100%, so it will get hot!

I was listening to the TWIT podcast the other day and they were talking about how Vista (consumer edition) is being delayed-again. They also mentioned how Vista is going to have almost nothing new as the new filesystem and many of the other big enhancements have been pulled.
My initial thought was to laugh, yet again, at M$'s incompetence. But then I got to thinking...M$ actually hasn't done *that* bad of a job when you really think about it. Look at all the failed attempts to build the next gen Mac OS through the 90s. We had Taligent and Pink and Copland and whatever else.
While most people look back on MS-DOS and Windows 3.1 as a joke, these were widely used in corporate america, especially Windows for Workgroups 3.11. Then came NT for corps and Win95 for the home users. You almost have to look at the Win95-->Vista time frame as the same as the System 7.5--->Tiger timeframe in the Mac world.
So from Fall of 1994 to present Apple went from System 7.5 to Mac OS 8.0, to Mac OS 9/9.1 to Rhapsody, Jaguar, Panther and Tiger.
In the same time frame M$ went from MS-DOS/Win 3.1 to Win95, Win98/WinME, WinNT, Win2000 and Win XP.
Microsoft had a much larger installed base, drastically larger 3rd party support issues (both software compatibility and hardware drivers), and the internet boom to deal with while creating their new OS's. Probably bigger issues than Apple had to overcome. On the other hand, M$ had billions of dollars to throw at development. But, anyone who does software dev knows that more money/more bodies isn't always the answer.
If the roles were reversed and Apple held 80% market share in the late 90s do we think Apple would have or would be doing a better job than M$ of getting new, stable and back-wards compatible OSs out the door?

I think that Apple is a good deal now, at what, less than $15 per share. I need to open up an online trading account. I already have a 403b through work. It makes sense for a company to look at Apple and think it might be a good investment.
How about this... What if it is Pixar? Apple has bought all of these Digital cinema editing software companies. Pixar started out in that field. They must have some money with their Disney deal. Would that be insider trading? What if Apple and Pixar merge? Pixar sure could use a deal on XServe's for their render farms. Apple could be its own best market.
Just an idea.

Does anyone know if this features an installer? For the past 2 years the Mac OS X versions were basicly just the unix versions, not including a graphical installer. I was never able to get it to work.
I used the pre release Oracle 9 and the installation process was far better than in Oracle 8. The installer did have a GUI.

mostly for single player, expect for the "party" type games (mario party, ssb), where i may put mutli player as more of a priority.
i usually play games single player though.

^Are you sure you are not Daniel Craig trying to promote CR to increase DVD/BR sales:D
Bless
Well if you purchase Casino Royale by Sony Pictures available March 13th on DVD and Blu-Ray, starring Daniel Craig and Eva Green which has been given "Two Thumbs up" - (Ebert & Roper) and has been called "A non-stop thrill ride....you will nearly crap your pants" - (some guy from nerdyfatassblog.net) You will see that Daniel Craig doesn't need to promote Casino Royale, because in it's infinite-awesome-amazing-spectactular-ness, it sells itself.

Question for iBook users:
I noticed iBooks in a few different computer stores that had damaged keyboards. Those particular ones were beyond repair. Because it was with more than one, it made me wonder about how well the things are put together. Has this been an issue with iBooks? Maybe the original iBooks? Or are store customers just overly hard on them?
Still thinking on whether to get a new Powermac or a portable. I'll probably just get an upgrade card and wait another year.

are you responsible for final production? If so
how big are your photoshop files? 600mb of
disk space even if you had your ram to the

if i had to work on your system doing trade

set me down infront of a G3 with 600mb of

Unless your doing comps only then it would
be ok. but not final mechanicals. No Way.

Well I read the book as a highschool freshman back in 1984 so I can't be sure...but it seems it was described as a shell. If I had the book I'd look it up.:(

I hear Ati is going to release their awesome new Radeon 9700s for mac very soon. How do these cards compare to the stock GeForce 4 MX in my current comp? I'm a semi-hard-core gamer. I have a 17" Apple Studio LCD. The thing about it is that I need to put games i9n 1280x1024 (native) resolution or it will look blurry/grainy/bad. With my graphics card, however, I need to turn graphics down considerably to play games like Urban Terror, etc.. And even on pretty low gfx, the fps still skips in big battles. I want to buy the Ati Radeon 9700 when it comes out. What will the speed increase be? I heard they are going to be $400. I can afford that, and I can sell my current GF4MX on ebay (I see a mac one now up to $122.50). Does anyone know more about this card? Will it be worth buying? Does it have an ADC plug on the mac version? I hope so, since the DVI -> ADC adapter is $150 (!)

Yep, the Pentium 5 is very real, and it is coming soon. 2nd quarter of the Pentium 5 debuting at 3.2GHZ is going to come out. It will have 100 million transistors on it and it will be manufactured at .09 microns. Also, here is the doozy, it will have 1 mb of L2 on die cache, and it will support 333mhz bus speeds, with the addition of DDR, that is a possible 667mhz bus speeds. By the way, if you were wondering, the Pentium 4 has 42 million transistors.
Now, for the G4: I am not sure how many transistors the G4 has, but I imagine it is way less then 100 million, or even 42 million, considering the P4 came out after the G4. Anyway, the cache on the G4 is higher on the high-end, 2mb of cache. But: the speed: 1.25Ghz? Can that really stand up to a P5 with 333mhz bus, and 3.2Ghz clock speeds? My opinion: most likely not.
Not to be criticle but the G4 does not have 2mb of L2 cache on the high end model it only has 256k. It does have 2mb of L3. The 1MB of L2 in my oppinion will be a lot faster then any L3 cache because it's accessed at full CPU speed. But we all know this doesn't really make a nickels worth of difference because we all know the current cpu at the current speed would be absolutely trounced by this new pentium. I also know feel that we will not be stuck at this slow progression of speed for the next year.
I personally though am in no way dissapointed in the new macs they are extremely fast. Yes faster then the Quicksilvers they just need to be used in the right application i.e. video editing, gaming, etc.. Anything that requires large amounts of data to be moved from the hard drive to the Ram and the same for the PCI and AGP cards to the Ram or Hard drive.

Does anyone out there know where Connect360 saves its log to?? I have the setting enabled for "Detailed Logging (Debug Mode)" turned on but I can't seem to find where it is located on my HD. This would really be helpful since I am not sitting at my laptop 24/7 waiting for this idiot to connect to my network.
Thanks!

Let me be clear that this is for myself - eg nothing against the EULA. I want to start folding again on my iBook, but I don't want to see the client. No dock icon, no menu extra, pretty much 'set and forget'. Is it possible? And if so, can someone walk me through it? Of course I'll be folding for 3446 :)
