The "Apple first" nuts in this thread are the the ones that give the Mac community a bad name. "Digital rights management" blows.Excuse me?!?!
I, sir, am a NeXT nut! It just so happens that Apple currently owns them! ;)
Seriously, though, Apple's in a tough spot - they currently have the most permissive form of DRM that the record companies will allow. Remember, also, that they took a lot of flack from said companies when the iPod originally came out because the only copy protection on it is that the music files are in a hidding folder to make it harder to copy from one Mac/PC to another. (something easily defeated though) DRM does suck - but it's "not that bad" and CD's are cheap enough that you can rip 'em for near the same cost. The biggest problem I have with iTMS is that the files are compressed. Some tracks need higher bitrates (thus I buy them). But for 90% of the music out there, it's good enough.
Don't confuse Apple fanaticism with people who just want the facts kept straight: iTMS TOS says you must use iTunes to purchase music from it - use anything else and you've broken that agreement. The arguement (at least from me) would be exactly the same if it was MTV, Dell or WalMart's music store's TOS in question.
I seriously think that if every Linux user would just send an email to Apple every time they bought a track off another service or bought a CD when they would have done so on iTMS but couldn't, that they'd get the hint.

I hope Apple doesn't attempt to steal it. I'd be happy if they bought them out and integrated it with Tiger. The iSight/barcode reader thing is awesome.

Well, if he got a job with Apple and had to sign a non disclosure contract which includes discussing all things Apple, well, that might be a reason he can't post. But why tomorrow and not tell us today?
Ah, the suspense......

I'm not sure I get why it is so funny?
it's only funny because the OP missed the 'community discussion' forum by one line.
move down one thread, nothing to see here... :)

It's a suburban area - not a city. I really doubt that there will be too many people there.
As for traffic, you don't have to deal too much with Philly traffic since it is right near the junction of 76 and Route 1. Keep in mind Kelly drive and MLK (formerly West river) are both closed for the Dad Vail Regatta.
There might not be too many people there, but finding a place to park will be difficult. I suspect that's why they chose an side street, since the parking is usually on one of them. All the towns along the main line could use a parking garage, even if it's only 2-3 floors.
I've had a habit of showing up for Apple store openings about 30 minutes prior to the opening and staying away from the rabid Mac-o-lytes in line. I still got two t-shirts but missed the third.
Hopefully, it's a good day to be there.

some clarification here.
to my knowledge, apple had the 10GB introduced in march 2002 with the scroll wheel and the same thickness as the 5GB. then at macworld of the introduced a touch-wheel 10GB that is slimmer, and the 20GB. maybe the 10GB was always thinner than the 5GB, but i'm pretty sure it went how i just said. please, feel free to correct me.

Looks like a minor goof to me. In the source it is before the
DOCTYPE statement and HTML statement. Maybe they were going to change the site, but at the last moment were told not to.
Only Steve knows!

In nearly 5 years of folding@home, I've never seen two machines working on the same exact work unit and I've had various combinations of machines.
However, they might be working on different parts of the same protein or other specifications about the two were different in some other way.

Also, technical differences don't matter when it comes to selling boxes, specs matter. The public is not going to care that FireWire is superior, but they are going to care that they can connect their new 5 megapixel still camera to the computer over USB 2.0 but not FireWire. That is why I want to see USB 2.0 arrive at MWSF.
Also, ATA100 in a laptop doesn't do you any good - the drives can only transfer about 15-20MB/s tops. What does matter is the buying public checking out the specs and comparing them to the PCs. That is why I want to see improved specs come out of MWSF.
Yes, I DEFINITELY want to see more USB ports on Apple's machines. I personally have 5 USB devices and only 2 damned USB ports. I'm tired of plugging/unplugging and not being able to use all devices at the same time. I DO have a USB hub (powered even), but 2 of the devices require a direct connection, so I'm still swapping devices. GRRRR. So yes, this is another thing I need to see arrive at MWSF.
I was being overly optimistic about battery life - but hey one can hope can't we? They are playing with lithium-polymer in the lab, so who knows?
:)
Apple is known in the industry as having some of the best laptops around... not only do they sell from their looks but their features are unmatched by mainstream competitors. Also, I have never seen ATA 100 even mentioned on doco for a lap top so I don't think it would be a selling point. Also, why would people care about faster photo transfer when they have no good software to use with it?
BTW, the only Apple machine, that I can think of, that shipped with 2 USB ports was the B&W G3. Don't know how you would have survived back 5 years ago before companies got so port happy.

Apparently they're ditching the hand crank for a foot pedal. Really it's more like a plus-sized palmpilot than a computer. But it's a good idea.

HOLY CRAP!!!! You guys are funny!
I laughed so hard at 1:45 in the morning that I woke my wife up! I was crying I laughed so histerically.
Did you look at his quicktime VR? What is that computer to the right of his desk. Kinda a cool office for 1996, at least makes me wonder what they have these days in their offices? Multiple 23" cinema displays, etc.
Also the OS8 flag in his window is kinda funny. Ok not really, but kind reminicient of a different time for mac users.

I don't and won't do anything for SETI. If extraterrestrial life existed God would have told us from the beginning. ;) All in all it is a waste of time and a waste of your life for an empty cause. Are you serious or joking? In any case, the computers are doing all the work, it's not a waste of my time! I'm not running SETI now, but I've had this dual G5 sitting around, seems like I should put it to work. I do agree though, the time is probably better spent with something closer to home and more immediately useful, like protein folding.
