I've been waiting for a change to the iBook line-up for a few months, which I know is kind of too soon...but the addition of a 12" DVD model isn't what I was waiting for... I guess it is cool for people to have options, but I was hoping for some better specs.

Not only do I think this is a stupid idea (Apple will never go X86...), I think that it is a bad idea. Let's just say that it turns out that the x86's were raster running Jaguar than the PowerPC's (Not that I think that would happen either). That would show Apple as a company that puts their pride before their customers. That's not good for stock.
It is a good idea to have the separate chips from the other computers. It allows the chip to be made completely for one OS (Not NT/98/2000/Me) and it allows Apple to state that they think different and don't do what the norm is doing.
And don't start going off on how fast and cheap PC's are right now, I've heared it before.
The bottom line is that PC's don't run the most advanced operating system ever, they run Windows. Speed isn't the important thing here. Keeping stock up is.
Would you rather have a fast computer now for two years and then no Apple at all? Think about it....

Just face the facts. We may or may not see new Apple displays soon... there was no substantial evidence of new displays today, all there was was an expired special on them, and if you recall it isnt the first special to expire without new ones being released.

Where's the "I don't think that any abuse exists on Apple's part" option?

PowerBook G4s are becoming scarce leading up to next month's Worldwide Developers Conference. Crazy Apple Rumors Site has learned that Apple will announce that it is discontinuing the PowerBook line completely.
Apple sources close to the manufacture of the PowerBook indicate that the highly successful professional laptop will be discontinued because it is "a pain in the ass to produce."
"Have you looked in one of those things?" CARS' source asked. "There's all kinds of wires and plugs and these sharp looking brass jobbies that I'm not even sure if it's okay to touch."
"It's really fricking complicated."
Indeed, comments made by Apple Senior Vice President for Hardware Engineering Jon Rubinstein over the past few months corroborate the view that Apple has simply become fed up with producing the award-winning PowerBook G4.
When asked about a potential update to the PowerBook during an interview with the press at January's Macworld San Francisco, Rubinstein sighed heavily and rolled his eyes. "Man, I really don't want to open that thing up again. The last time we did, there were six screws and this little thing that looked like a square bottle cap left over when we were finished. We just sat there staring at each other. No one had any idea where they were supposed to go."
Meeting with Apple resellers last month, Rubinstein again voiced complaints about the complex design of the PowerBook.
"You have no idea how hard it was to get the combo drive into that machine," Rubinstein said. "Me and Greg Joswiak had to push on the back while two engineers shoved the drive in from the other side. There was this horrible scraping sound. Hopefully that'll be the last time we have to change the drive for a while."
CARS' source said the PowerBook will not be replaced by a new model. "What, replace one really complicated laptop with another really complicated laptop? Yeah, no thanks."
This change in Apple's product lineup is not expected to affect the consumer-level iBook, which the source said was "more like an Etch-A-Sketch" in terms of complexity.

This is just like when one of the retailers was advertising the 867, 1, and 1.25GHz and accidentally left out the "2" in 1.25 so it read 1.5 and everyone was going crazy about the possibility of an upgrade. Doh!

Maybe the people are stupid and have the system sitting in plain view and the cops will notice it when they try to question the neighbors.
Well, chances are if it's being used it could well just be sitting there by the living room TV!
Best of luck with this - any kind of theft like this would just drive me nuts.
Incidentally, you asked previously about Connect360's log - I don't know if it creates a separate log file, but you can certainly see log output in the Console, maybe that'll help.

Now why do hackers have to go do this? they say they do it cuz the prices that cd's are is "unfair" and "overpriced". now i simply have to ask the question... if your a hacker.. more than likely you deal with computers. dont you think that your overpaid for you job? for a small simple example.. best buy geek squad.. overpriced.. they want 30+ dollars to install a stick of ram. the point is... the money is for the most part equally distributed to be able to pay these high prices. income is accomidated for the high prices of products. if u think it's bad over here.. go to japan and try and buy a medium fries on their "dollar menu" which in usd=$5. so back my main point... just pay the frick'n money, most ppl's income are accomidated for the increase cost. if you feel u cant afford a cd... that's what christmas or your birthday is for or even the radio. by the way... i'm not an "artist" either... im majoring in ECE myself so i'm not biased.

I think MacRumors has never had a very big "community" feel to it... it's always been very functional. Mac Rumors w/ discussions. ...
I came across this while verifying Mr. Anderson's previous identity. Yes, it makes me feel like a new pup given the vast age of others' memberships (although I'm now in something like the 33rd percentile in terms of seniority).
However, I'm posting because I think that, at least to me, the forums do provide a fair sense of community. Perhaps it was missing for a while, back in those years before I stumbled into the light, but I think we feel like a community now. Any of the elders care to comment?

My comments were about the people who wrote the software, not those that just use it. It's the PyMusique programmers that may face legal troubles, while those who merely use the software may or may not face consequences (I suspect that the worse for them might be termination of their iTunes account, in which case they won't have to worry any longer about iTunes DRM).
Thanks for clearing that up, but I still don't undertsand why the creator(s) of PhMusique sohuld face legal charges. What have they done illegaly?

keep the G3 processor for the crt imac and constantly up its speed from time to time while lowering it $699, 599, and finally 499 usd
use the G3fx in the ibook until mwsf in january 2003...and then put in a G4 at that time
at the end of then pull the G3 from the crt imac and put a G4 in it and keep it as an educational and entry level mac
hopefully, sometime in 2003 and certainly by the end of that year, we will have the G5 in pro model towers
wishful thinking...i know, but it's a goal to shoot for (if crt imac goes to $599 usd and ibook gets G4 in mid-2003...that will actually not be bad, either)

Im curious as to what OS it would use, a scaled down version of OSX would be my guess, so it could run Inkwell, but then again it could be somehow linked to the iPod, at least the hardware of it since iPod has so many hidden deactivated features that many PDAs have. Any thoughts?

But at the same time expanding 2 quickly will kill a company just the same. If anything I think apple should look at expanding into the TV market and see some high end TVs. it a good market it to get into and it right up apple alle right now. Good way to make money. Looks good and they are still not really leaving there core. ...What is this fixation with TVs? Is there something that your TV set needs that you can't get from JVC, LG, Mitsubishi, Panasonic, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, and Zenith? Did you know that computer maker Gateway was the No. 1 maker of plasma screens when it abandoned the product? It could not sell them at a profit. Havew you seen the flat screens sold by HP? They look like crap. Have you seen the flat screens sold by Dell? They look nicer, but not better than those from the traditional manufacturers like JVC, etc.
What do you mean by "some high end TVs"? Have you been to Wal-Mart lately? Do you know that you can now buy an integrated flat screen HDTV for less than $1000 US? In I bought a 37" Sharp HDTV monitor. Within months I could buy a new integrated 37" Sharp HDTV for less than I still owed on the old monitor. Where do you see an opportunity for profit if Apple gets into this market?
