Who will step up to volunteer to manage this email list thing? Could one of the moderators/admins of this forum round up all of the folding members' email addresses?
I find that there should be some app that administrates it for us, then we only need a website for the app to be integrated with.... hmmm, lets see.... we have one right here! I find it should be on our own macrumors.com

it's also a very compelling reason for those who haven't seen the ID light.
That said, this might have a lot to do with Adobe....
Now, apple could take a lesson from Adobe and figure out a way to offer Office V.X with the machines.
Strike a deal with MS to buy, who knows, 10k lisences of Office. And then run a switch ad (janie? are you there? Save Xmas for me!) that tacks on a "buy a powermac from the apple store between now and x.x.02 and receive a free copy of MS Office.
maybe Make it a switcher thing-- if you switch, free office.
Watch the macs fly off the shelves.

I believe you found an old PowerBook G3.
This is most likely pretty old, on the order of 3-4 years. Judging from the descriptions, it is most likely either the Wallstreet enclosure or more likely the Lombard/Pismo PowerBooks. I recognise the angled fans on the sides as being like those in my Pismo as is the push button release for the screen portion of the laptop. There is no such release button on the Walstreet models(they have a pull-release latch). Additionally, the drawings are purposefully vague to represent a more generic enclosure with the detail digrams focussing on the innovative and thus patented parts which could well explain the double squres represing "mouse" buttons.
BTW.... the head of the PowerBook Team has said repeatedly that Apple's reseach has found that most folks carry their internal expansion bay devices outside the Powerbook but in the same bag which means that there is little true portability gained by not providing internal expansion bays and thus the justification for dropping them on the PowerBook Ti line in favor of a slimmer design.

Well I tested my G4 933, and I have CHUD tools installed so I can disable my L2 and L3 cache. I also could not get the java to work so I compiled with C++, its the same stuff, but I used time() with gave me seconds, so * 1000 to get the adjusted scores
Here are my scores
933 256L2 2MBL3 79 seconds or 79000
933 NO L2 or L3 124 seconds or 124000
933 L2 only 79 seconds
933 L3 only 79 seconds
Judging by these scores I have to think that CHUD is not working and it only worked with completely disabled. as the diff of 45 seconds.
And you can get CHUD from apple ftp.apple.com
Needless to say it takes me 79 seconds when a PV is completing this in 5-10 seconds, something is wrong!! (the the G4)
Lastly, I have not seen BACKTOTHEMAC telling us how great the G4 is lately, must be installing Win 2K under VPC with a stopwatch in 1 hand, an apple in the other, and a smile on his face...
<EDIT> I am gonna try to run this on my brothers 333 celeron on a 66MHZ bus with 320 RAM, I know my 933 is not the fastest, but maybe it just found its competition. :) </EDIT>

In fact, I can tell you the answer outright: x1=20000, x2=20000, x3 = 400000000. It took me 2 seconds or so. Does this mean that I am a better computer than a G4 and a P4? No, it means I realized that the loop can be reduced to simple data assignments. I have a better compiler, thats it.
I'll see about adding more thoughts later.
there is a lot a compiler could do to this - by us all (well, those who have the interest in the assembler output of a compiler at least) having a look at what the respective compilers have done, we can form more of an informed opinion of what works out to the benefit of the P4 for this case. This might all be a bit geeky, but I am intersted at least.

after many gigs or ram, nobody willl care about that item either
and who mentions hard drives anymore since even the cheapest machines have more space than most will use from day to day
and after lcds completely take over, why brag about anything bigger than a 19" lcd when that should suit the need of most average consumers
one day, price will be the most important issue for macs...some may argue that it is already the chief factor in why a person buys a pc

The hell with Iwalk and Ipod, Say hello to iTablet. This is definitly the time and the place for this bad boy. With the advent of Windows XP tablet edition. Don't you think Apple would benefit from a tablet computer. Perfect for Photoshop and Illustrator. You could paint right on the screen!. Maybe Steve was right, PDA's have been cornered, its time for tablets! OSX tablet edition. Think about it, why wouldn't they do this!?

Finally. I finally did it. I am in the top 10 in total credit on the MR SETI team! WOOOO! Yay! I just broke in at #10!
I'm currently #1 in RAC, but I think that will drop soon as it's probably just because of their recent outage.
But still... I'm gunning for you dcappello! You're going down, my friend! 154k credit and climbing, punk!
With the link below in mind, I seriously doubt it's your own effort. Get a life dude....

So is the previous lack of this IT tool the reason my college IT department insisted on taking my PB from me for 12 hours and installing the anti virus software themselves?
I would tell them to "F" off... Not sure why your college would even require antivirus software... there is probably more to it than I know.
Anyways, I wish there was a way to connect to the Corporate Server via OS X to see which PCs were infected, that's what I want.

Hmm...David Blaine should do something like that. Just stand, stuck, in an Apple Store elevator for 3 weeks. Its ingenious!

A simple solution to running a console app in the background would be to use GNU screen.
Install darwinports (make sure you update .profile to include $PATH:/opt/local/bin and stuff like that) and simply do `sudo port install screen', then
screen command-line-app
and simply close the window. if you want to check on it later, simply type in `screen -r'.
Ctrl-C while in the session to kill it. Useful for other things like irssi, compiling things in the background that will take a while, etc.
