If you are correct in your assessment, then an Apple buyer will likely choose to buy the computer he loves rather than that new suite of office furniture. After all, if he loves his 1999 PowerMac G3, then he expects to love a new 2001 PowerMac G4 even more.
Well, opportunity cost is present in all our buying decisions, whether Mac or PC. I was speaking only in terms of computer purchasing.
Still, Mac users tend to hold onto their machines. I offer an alternate theory. The average Mac user doesn't "love" his or her computer. He/she bought it and uses it because it allows him/her to concentrate on getting the job done. The Mac "just works" without a lot of fuss or muss. One software package installed on it can be upgraded without fear that the other software will be broken by the upgrade.
I pretty much agree. Maybe "love" was too strong a word, but I think most Mac users who realize how much less troublesome their Macs are compared to PCs have an affinity for their machines, and all things remaining constant, wouldn't want to abandon their Macs (except for newer Macs :)).
The Mac and PC markets have very different dynamics. People who buy Macs tend to purchase them with funds at their disposal for their own use. Mac users tend to provide their own technical support. People who buy PCs tend to purchase them with other people's money for use by third parties. Upgrading software and peripherals can be a nighmare. Buying new machines is an expensive form of technical support.
Yeah, I don't quite remember what I was arguing for at this point, but I think any simple explanation of why a platform has the market share it does can only be arrived at by generalization. It's all very complex, and everything plays a part, and it's easy to generalize, but that doesn't tell the whole story. Not that you were generalizing, or that generalizing is evil and must be avoided at all costs, but, yeah.

Yep, I definitely miss the old days. So many fond memories... nothing like that today... I think the most recent "old time" thread is the "What's your definition of Geek??" thread...

Personally, I stand for moral relativism every day. It is more important to me that individuals make decisions based on what they feel - individually - are right and wrong. I am glad that some here believe blindly following the "law" keeps them safe both morally and in the eyes of our fine government.

But let me ask you this... in your soul (if you believe in such things), do you really believe it is "wrong" to purchase a song off the iTMS without DRM? I am all for breaking the "law" as long as you know the consequences.

Those arguing for the supremacy of "laws" over moral reason simply hide the fact that they are dividing humans from one another. If you choose to abide by a law, do so. But do not confuse your knowledge of what the law states with a morally superior stance. Your morals are good for you and no one else.

So if my morality tells me that it is right for me to kill you, then you support my choice to do so?

Again Apple Stores are seeing a major increase in sales, the only problem we have is that us the resellers are not seeing the stock as quick as we would like. People have been waiting for them for ages and are buying them as soon as they turn up.

They would appear to be pro-Apple until you try and view video on their site. Then you have a choice between Windows Media or Real. ;)

    Why am I folding?

    Because:

    1) To help find a cure for disease.
    2) To help the MR Folding Team.
    3) Makes me feel good to have my Mac doing something important.
    4) Keeps me nice and warm during winter (and rather hot unfortunately during summer).

    :)

I can't imagine why anyone outside a small niche would buy a tablet computer, so I can't believe Apple would bother. Bill Gates may think tablets are the wave of the future, but I see them dying like "internet appliances" did, because no one would buy what's basically an extremely limited laptop.

With the PowerMacs already updated with DP 1.25GHz processors, the Powerbooks expecting an update (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2002/09/20020923120900.shtml) very soon, and the 19-inch iMacs (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2002/09/20020905142426.shtml) seemingly on the way, when do you think a single-processor 1.2(5)GHz iMac will be released?

    Cool.Thanks.

How can an ITC administrative judge make a decision then if the district court does that.
    http://www.itds.treas.gov/Sec337.htm

It's patently funny to see a Singapore based company making complaints on a US based one using an act whose intent is described as (acording to the Treasury Dept):

In general, Section 337 prohibits any unfair method of competition or unfair act in the importation of articles if the effect or threat of such importation is to destroy or to significantly damage a U.S. industry, prevent the establishment of an industry, or restrain or monopolize trade in the United States. Specifically, section 337 prohibits importation of articles that infringe a valid and enforceable United States patent, registered copyright, or registered trademark, as well as articles that are produced by means of a process covered by a valid and enforceable United States patent.

Seems like Apple's easiest workaround would be to use a US contract manufacturer (if they could find one)...

GTA just has a level of humour that doesn't seem as contrived as Saints Row, and personally I'm not keen on the future style of Crackdown (note my fave GTA so far is Vice City).

aye, thats what puts GTA over it's competitor's for me...the dialogue, the radio ads, the billboards, item and location names all awesome...soundtracks are aleasy good too.

To the OP, yes, certain companies including Apple have inspired me to not take advantage of certain situations above others. I see nothing wrong with what you did, you essentially traded one printer offer for the other...you bought a computer which you returned, kept the printer, bought another computer, and turned down the free printer offer. You got the same results as you would have if you had returned the original printer, only with way less hassle. The fact that you would feel bad about taking a 2nd printer says a lot about you, seeing as how a lot of people would not hesitate to grab another printer and sell it. Ignore the thread pissers. Every forum has those self-righteous yahtzels.
