Yeah...
It gets confusing...
Here's what we know:
IBM will be talking about a 64-Bit PowerPC in Oct (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2002/08/20020808110527.shtml)
That is all we know for sure.
What I would rate as a reliable rumor is this:
that IBM/Apple have been in discussions about it (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2002/08/20020809122153.shtml)
beyond that, it's been pretty speculative.

Now what looks more powerful on paper, a G4 or a G5? Here's what I predict:
In January, Apple releases new hardware. The Powermac line gets converted to G5 while the 'i' line gets a speed bump. They will recieve a low-heat-and-power Moto G5 or maybe a further derivative of the IBM Power4 in the summer.:)
The reason why I insisted that they give the iMac, iBook, and eMac a G5 first is because I think it would be stupid if they gave the PowerMac, PowerBook, and XServe a G5 first and then had to replace it with a 64-bit G5 just a couple months later! Too much effort in too little time IMO. Besides, those PowerMac G4's are still DP. Hey, even in the PC world most servers and workstations don't get moved to next generation chips first. It is always the desktops and notebooks that are the first to get the new chips. ;)

Doubtfully. It would be more likely a Power4. the G naming scheme is getting old really fast. It never takes this long to make a processor. Apple must really have something big up their sleves.

Exactly. Although there are some things i like from the early nineties (slowdive. my bloody valentine. lush) there things I hate, namely Quark, which feels like it was designed in the lates 70s
All i have to say is logo in Illustrator copy and paste to ID no need for eps files anymo!

i have an inverse question.
is there anyway to disable that nutscrape mail app (mozilla, too).
it screws with my settings, and every time i click a mailto: link, it opens that netscape mail thing instead of mail.app

1.67 GHz. my protein is p1147_L939_WT_298K, so I assume that falls into the 11** series you think of. Thanks.
I was probably just folding simpler proteins on my iBook then, I suppose?

or u could just take the ibook, stretch the screen to a 16:9 ratio (16:10 on a tibook, whatsup with that?) up the ram capacity, throw in a g4 and call it a tibook. (sarcasm)
what im saying is thats basically NO difference between the ibook and tibook if they have exact same cards (g3 processor will hurt on Doom 3 i bet) so u need some distinction. i bet a 700mhz ibook with a g3 and ati 9000 would rip in 10.2 due to QE support, you'd probably have trouble telling the speed differences except for in heavy computation tasks (see g4's l3 cache)

You will see that Daniel Craig doesn't need to promote Casino Royale, because in it's infinite-awesome-amazing-spectactular-ness, it sells itself.
LOL! You should change your location to 'watching Casino Royale' :D

We all feel that a new PowerBook and iBook are going to be released soon (whenever that is). However, I am wondering when people think a new iMac will be released. I say this because I am in the market for a new computer. I really like the top of the line iMac (17") but if something bigger and better is coming up soon, I'd like to wait. I will probably wait since a new computer is not a necesity at this point. When I get the new computer, my old G4 400 will go to my grandparents so they can have a computer. Any thoughts on a new iMac?

No, no, the Athlon in the test was overclockled. That Athlon would not be sold by system manufacturers overclocked that far.
Added: The guy who ran this test even states that a dual 1GHz G4 rig is equal to 2GHz, which it isn't.
On the graphics test, he doesn't even give the Athlon and P4 the same graphics card. That's a very innacurate testing site, IMO.

MacRumors has changed too much.
No I'm not just blabbering on and on, there was a community, of friends, of people you know and can talk to.
Now -- Its just like on random threads people are really really nasty.
I mean even just repost, people can yell repost, but its more like 'Why the hell did you repost this... God I've seen this 10000000x times... Geez this AGAIN!'
I mean it was alright before if you just didn't talk to people outside the forums, but now its not even like people want to talk to anyway.
Members don't care much about the forums or apple or anything specific there are -- they are all just here.
I mean it just happened right before the forum change skins, everyone started to get nasty.
I dunno if anyone can be done but heck I remember were members would get their birthday posted in community disc. but not anymore.
Just like today for my birthday.

Hey c'mon, there's exactly no more heat on a Powerbook than on any other Computer. Yes, you can feel thermal properties on a 1 inch thin computer (1 inch includes the flip up display by the way).
I use a PB 800 MHz - 60 GB - with 1 GB RAM. Yes I feel thermal properties but it is nothing to worry about at all. If your totally stressed about some people complaining about an electronic device displaying thermal properties, take Apple's word for it and don't listen; or take my word that these people are the same people who complain that their fridge is warm on top, or that the water tastes funny.
After hours of use, or after leaving it on for days and days, I can fold the PB up into sleep mode and put it in my Brenthaven Titanium 1 carrying case along with my Canon Optura 200 MC DV Camcorder and all the chargers, batteries, and cords that connect them and the total weight is just about 10 lbs (around 4.5 Kg metric).
I used to use a PC, but beleive you me, now I think they're PP. My name is BenderBot1138 and I'm very cool using my Powerbook. :D
