You can't download full albums for 9.99...you have to pay .99 for each song. I'm sticking with Jhymn

I don't run it any more as it apparently rips hard drives and I couldn't be bothered setting up the RAM disk method. It also turns my G5 into a bit of a wind tunnel some times.
BS. Where are you getting your info? The CPU does all the work, the HD only stores the info crunched to send back to SETI. I am coming up on my 1st yr anniversary and no problems. My main machine is the G3/300, 6 yrs old and still purring like the day it was new. Just make sure you have a good air flow through the box and everything will be fine. It is the peps that use PowerBooks that burn up your machine, probably because they don't raise it off the table to get air underneath it. I use 1/2" rubber feet and a small desk fan blowing across the unit to cool my PowerBook the fan hardly comes on. My temps never exceed 109F in my G3.

for a non altivec, non MP aware test this really seems flawed as any kind of measurement.
So a 933Mhz G4 with PC133, a 2Mb L3, 256K L2 & a 7 stage pipeline, without the aid of altivec has score that makes it 273% faster than a 300Mhz G3 ?
The 733Mhz G4 score is laughable to say the least, it's not even seperating the QS from the digital audio models and there's no way it's 63% faster than a 533Mhz G4 at anything. They both have a 133Mhz FSB and PC133 RAM, 1 has a 4 stage pipeline and 1Mb L2 at a 2:1 ratio, the other has a 7 stage pipeline, a 256K L2 at a 1:1 ratio and a 1Mb L3 at a 3:1 ratio and that cpu didn't use DDR on the L3 either because it was the PPC7450 not the PPC7455.

First off I'd like to thank everyone her for their help in a computer choice in the past several months. I decided on the 17 inch iMac and it is a stellar machine. Also I wanted to thank all the avid posters for teaching me what I know about Apple, the mac platform, and the bussiness as a whole. Now that thats out of the way....
I'd like to discuss what I see as a very critical time frame for Apple corp. and the industry as a whole. From what I have read, and learned, this is what I see (and want) to occur in the next several months:
Third week of October:
New Powerbooks with a 1ghz and a 1.2ghz processor; the 1.0 ships immediately, the 1.2 four weeks; all support bluetooth built in and have 64mb mobility ATI Radeon 9000 video cards; optional external superdrive: with powerbook $299; 166 front side bus; ddr ram
New Screens: the product line is slimed to three (much like all other platforms)

Chris chmorley,
It's not just Republicans that have strong opinions about stuff they know very little about. Democrats fall into that description as well. There are bull-headed know-nothings in just about every group that you can think of.

This seems a little rediculous. of course they're not going to discontinue it. it's the flagship of their portables.

This is one of the neater toys I've seen in a while. You run a little program that scours RSS feeds for audio links and pushes them into iTunes playlists. Sync up your iPod (or just use iTunes if you don't have one), and you have a sort of time-shifted personalized radio thing.
I'm using iPodderx (http://ipodderx.com/), but see the article for other possibilities.

InDesign came, it saw, it kicked your arse!
Not yet, it hasn't.
Although Indesign has made a lot of running, real figures about market-share are difficult to find. My guess in the UK is that about 10-15% of studios are using InDesign although that may be a little generous.
More importantly, although having Indesign skills are usually 'desirable' in the job market, Quark skills are still essential to have.
Many of our printers and freelancers have not even moved to OS X yet and still want Quark 4/5 files...
I'm not saying which one is better, but just observing the state of the industry over here.
Quark 7, if aggressively priced and operationally stable, could stop the rot...

it seems to me to be good to stay diversified, and by keeping an x 86 development project going, Apple may be reducing any risk factors associated with sticking with the PowerPC.
The issues regarding Cocoa vs Carbon do seem interesting. Notably, Apple has always put a big emphasis on Cocoa. Maybe this is one reason. Considering Cocoa has its roots way back in NeXT (which as Rigor pointed out, ran on several architectures), the link seems more than coincidental.
With respect to the idea that Apple would release this only if it was on its death bed, well, I am not so sure about that. For instance, no respectable developer would spend a fortune recompiling their apps to run on a platform that was about to go wayward. Again, if Apple was down for the count, I doubt it would want to spend the massive amounts it would take to finalise and then market this product to the windows Calvinists [think of all the additional device drivers, code optimisations etc that would have to be undertaken just to make it useable. Even on Mac related hardware we are still awaiting the arrival of some driver related support]
Finally, with respect to Nick de Plume, I have found that in the murky world of apple related rumours, the info he has published in the past tends to be quite reliable. Now, the guys at MOSR on the other hand...

In my last post of June 15 2005 I stated I was #330. Now on July 11 2005 I'm at #259. I love this.
Just a heads up, I got involved with folding after sruviving colon cancer in 2002 then in 2004 I lost my gallbladder (it burst) and now 2 weeks ago I was informed the cancer has now returned to my liver :(
I'm scheduled to go inot surgery on July 28 and will be loosing at least 75% of my liver (if it's healthy enough to survive) I will be back ;) ;)
FOLDING@HOME is a good thing, and I feel with our continued help and crunching the answers to more than just protein folding can be accomplished and the cures for diseases other than those listed on the home page:

I'm guilty. I have not added the two PC's at work that I said I would... but I will, I promise!
Great to hear.
The average Output/month of CustomPC is about 1,000,000 points higher then ours. Don't think we can stop them from overtaking.
We will have to get back at them in a month or so
With that kind of attitude we wont ever get into the top 20. At least let set a goal of 54000 points a day so that the Knight don't pass as in the 78 days expected.

I really wanted to like konfabulator.
but it is S L O W.
Dashboard is 10000000x better, because it doesn't eat up my system resources.
Apple came out with a better product, and I am tired of Arlo whining.
my .02
Yeah, also desk space to me is valuable, so making the widgets disappear and appear is a great idea. Many of the Konfabulator widgets do not need to be open all the time, for example the weather or a calculator.
