the last few macworlds have been consumer- and software-focussed. I'd expect much the same, ALTHOUGH now that Jaguar is out, there's less software stuff to talk about.
My guess is for an iMac update and some iSoftware updates, like iPhoto 2 and iMovie 3. What were those recent software acquisitions Apple's made?
If we're lucky, the 'one more thing' might be a new iPod/iPhone. But that's just wishful thinking on my part.
Don't expect new Powermacs until a few weeks later at the earliest. And I wouldn't bet on new processors; just a speedbump.
Powerbooks and displays will have been updated by then, going by today's news. So all that leaves is the iBook. My crystal ball is pretty murky on that one.

actually anyone before 2003 is old school since many joined after that ;)
there will be a flood of 2003 members in the top ten i think, no posters from 2000, and maybe three from 2001
the 2002 and 2003 posters will dominate the top 100 spots i think since they came into macrumors when it was a full on site with everything to talk about...many earlier posters had much less to talk about and macrumors was definitely in its early days
i am one strange one who loved the old days before limitations and moderators...while i believe moderators do a great job, i liked it when it was more self governing
but with over 20000 members here, there is definitely a need for order and thus for moderators
i think arn should assign several more mods to make your jobs easier...something like three mods for every ten thousand more members to make it more manageable...you guys could do with six working mods and maybe more
i would like to see j-lo, shadowfax, and wdlove as mods...those are my nominations for the next three to help you guys out, and if you need more, elect mr. macman, krossfyter, and king cobra
and one can't forget macbandit either

If you want apple quality, you're going to pay for it... a price drop would be good, but i should never hope to see them *cheaper* than others...
you could always grab a 15", and then a couple of months later go for another one... depends on what you do with your desktop space tho...
and that's assuming there will *be* a 15" in a few months ;)

I originally thought about getting one, but I have since given up and will wait till the next revision which may very well include a Power4-lite option, but we won't have much idea about that until October 15th.
Sorry ddtlm, I think you misread what i posted ( or a futzed up my post) anywho, orginally on august 13th the apple site said it would be a 6-8 week wait. Two weeks later on the 28th, the 6-8 week wait went down to 4-6 weeks.
I guarantee in 2 weeks it will say 2-4 weeks. And eventually it will widle away to 5-7 days, 3-5 days, and then 1-3
So still count on the powermac 1.25 coming out around the same time the october 1st monitor rebate occurs. And if my predictions are right those could include new monitors from Paris just two weeks prior.

I also think the 9000 will sell like dollar per pound marijuana in Compton (hehe)
It's all about volume. How many Mac owners are going to spend the money ($399) for a video card, great or otherwise? 1000? 10,000? 100,000? Not enough to be first. The only reason we get GeForce cards quickly is because Apple is doing the work, not nVidia.
Compton...the biggest dropout rate in the country. What a city! The math and accounting classes must do well. :D

are ps3 hard to come by, my brother ordered his off of best buy and came right away... You can just wander into any store, say "I want a PS3 when it comes", and they'll give you a pre-order. They're really struggling to shift them. Tbh, why they're opening at midnight, I don't know - they could do a normal 9-8 on launch day with the way they're going

In fact, MacOS X 10.4 has been installed on non-Apple hardware. Palladium did not prevent it. It was not even an issue.
It most certainly was, and continues to be, an issue. TPM hacks are necessary at the outset in order to get OS X to install on non-Apple hardware. Most of the pirated images floating around are already hacked for convenience. iMeowbot is 100% correct.

Motorstorm only got an 8.0 in the latest issue of GameInformer, which is the same as it got in Famitsu when it was released in Japan *WITHOUT* online play. Apparently, Motorstorm isn't that great in spite of what all the Sony fanboys say, even when the online factor is taken into consideration. Does anyone remember how hyped State of Emergency was before it came out?? A week after release and nobody wanted to play it anymore because it was so mind numbingly boring. It dropped into the $9.99 or less bins pretty quick. I think Motorstorm will do the same. Sega Rally and Colin McRae: Dirt are better off roaders anyway.

Woohoo! I'm a University of Chicago alum, so feel free to contact me (either via PM or in this thread) if you have any questions about it. Going to Chicago was possibly the best experience of my life. Good luck as you decide where you'll be headed for the best four years of yours!

maybe, anyway I tell my buddies that a mac works. It is great to have all that speed but here is a thought:
I have a PC that is really 5x as fast as a mac
I spend 5x as long setting it up as i do the mac
I am also 5x less productive on it then a mac as it keeps breaking
I may not be a great mathematician but 5x5 = 25. 25x less usable than a mac. Personal experience proves this.
Long Live King Mac!! Long Live King Mac!!
For the dark side to wonder at how easy I get my life done

Actually, it's the other way around. They went to enclosures from not having them, IIRC. Last time I checked, the DVD-RAM drives that Apple shipped were enclosureless.

Chrono Cross is one of only four games ever to get a perfect 10.0 rating from Gamespot.com (the other three were Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and Soul Calibur).
Which always prompted me to wonder "what were they smoking"? Chrono Cross started off with such promise, then the bottom just dropped completely out. It truly felt like they'd been 3/4 through a stand-alone game, then decided to tack on the Chrono tie-in. I particularly liked the shoehorned exposition at the very very end: "Oh BTW, Lynx was actually your dad, now go beat the last boss!!!" Or the "Kid is actually a clone of Schala - but we cleverly disguised this by having neither of them actually look like the real Schala & her purple hair!"
I think Gamespot rated the game the way I felt - play about 1/4 and think "there are great things in motion; the payoff will be spectacular!" But I never felt it lived up to its potential. Certainly not in the end-to-end fulfilment sense of OoT. Just my opinion.
Anyone remember crystalis? I playin that right now
Crystalis was like one of the greatest NES games ever. It's like Zelda - but cooler - and with a plot! GAMES THAT NEED A SEQUEL! And a VC release!
