I just started doing this whole "Folding" thing. Somehow it feels more useful than SETI...of course, I'll be kicking myself if and when something is found using SETI. :D

Right, just checked with the Apple site, and its time I get a cup of coffee here on this sunday morning. I thought Apple had released a 4 processor with each a dual core powermac.... I'm gonna get a cup of coffee now.

Both worlds use each other.
You know the advert for Sony's Bravia range of LCD TVs where they chuck a bunch of coloured balls down a street in SF. Well when I first saw that I assumed it was done with CGI but I saw the 'making of' the advert promo on a Sony display in a Sony shop and its actually done for real, looked a lot of fun, and not only that but in every clip where the making of crew were filming the advert crew you could clearly see that the advert was produced on Apple laptops and desktops. I'd have thought that Sony would've at least placed their own Vaio in shot to make us believe they were used.

It's very similar to Outlook Express on Mac and PC. It won't talk to a webmail server. You'll have to get SMTP/POP or IMAP access. Mail.com offers smtp/pop at extra cost (not free). I don't think Netscape offers it at all.

The six axis support is really supposed to suck. You like wave it up and down to do a top spin, and side side, front forth something something.
If you want to play a tennis game with motion controls, just wait for a better one on the wii.
So i say the 360, cuz of online play, and it the same game.

Downloaded this last night and didn't even realize it was a major update. I don't see too many changes in the programs and everything is still running fine...

Yeah, from what I've heard it's nothing special. Lots of bugs, and some users can't even get it to work. Still interesting though, but will probably only be as good as VirtualPC (and that isn't saying much).

Yeah, and I read on the 'Known Issues' that there is NO SOUND support........yet. Which means they will upgrade it with sound in a few months haha.
I'm not expecting it to be great but, I would like playing around with it

Too bad it doesn't run out to Amazon and fetch your album art. :(
But, I do dig how it attempts to recreate the back cover.

Ok...hearing that $9/hour is a lot for store workers, im wondering what an average wage is for working in a store? 'Cos i get 5.30 ~ $10 an hour and I only jsut started at the store...and im on a low wage compared to everyone else there. And that doesn't even get taxed.

do you really think it's fair to tell someone who produces more points than you that they don't have the right attitude?
Im just having fun and motivating. While i might not be producing as much as most people im just having fun while helping at a good cause out, so cut some slack. Besides every little bit helps the team and researches, and if you added all the little peoples points im sure it would add up :)

In my last post of June 15 2005 I stated I was #330. Now on July 11 2005 I'm at #259. I love this.
Just a heads up, I got involved with folding after sruviving colon cancer in 2002 then in 2004 I lost my gallbladder (it burst) and now 2 weeks ago I was informed the cancer has now returned to my liver :(
I'm scheduled to go inot surgery on July 28 and will be loosing at least 75% of my liver (if it's healthy enough to survive) I will be back ;) ;)
FOLDING@HOME is a good thing, and I feel with our continued help and crunching the answers to more than just protein folding can be accomplished and the cures for diseases other than those listed on the home page:

Do you think there will be a new powerbook (.13 g4 maybe?) at jan macworld if there is a speed bump/superdrive/who knows on nov5? Or is it one or the other. I'm planning on buying one early next year so I'd rather not buy one and find out a new generation is released 2 weeks later.

Why not do this;
"iPic" specs;
iPod case, 5 gig hd, FW connection via a "pop" out male FW connector, 4 megapixels, large lcd viewer, lcd view finder, bounce flash, ASA 100 to 400, 28mm to 80mm zoom and Lithium batteries.
Same specs as above, but with a "iBook" type of case.
Add Bluetooth (I know it is slower, but hey no connections). The FW would pop out and you could "dock" the camera with the laptop. Note for towers and iMac's there would be a patch cable.
The case would match the two laptops Apple puts out now, plus this would double as a portable drive for the laptops.
Cost 350$ to 450$
Anyways, it makes sense for Apple to have a consumer level camera, to complete the digital hub. Also make them for pc's right away and rake in the money :]
My Opinion anyways, thanks!

Oh no no I didnt mean you were bragging. I mean't I'm litteraly Jealous of you.
Jobs I can find that pay 9+ you either need to work construction, which no offense but I can't speak Spanish (its texas), or you need to work as a Telemarketer.
Night shifts at walmart might get that pay also, but I'm not sure.
I go to a community college right now so there is no housing help what so ever and the cheapest apartment with in 20 minute drive is 650 a month for single bedroom. With 16 hours for spring semester there was no way I could survive on the pay most places pay here... That is why I am jealous becuase if I was making 9+ oh man...
Sorry to hear about your dilemma- although, it is one shared by the vast majority of college students. I certainly count my blessings.:)
Although, my extra money usually goes to financing my addiction to all things Apple...... :D

Is it just me? Am I the only person in the world who just doesn't see the benefits of Firefox? Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy that everyone else is happy with it but so far I haven't seen a need to change over from Explorer in XP. I don't use Windows all that much so I admitedly don't have a huge wealth of experience but still...
Ahh well, as long as SOMETHING erodes Microsoft's market share!
The reasons are long and varied depending on who you talk to. Mine are simple:
1- Since IE 6 was released in 2001 there have several dozen security patches released for IE. Each containing one or more security updates. If I had to get probably 12 individual patches per year since '01. IE is the most insecure POS ever to grace the face of planet Earth. It makes Windows look secure in comparison.
2 - IE doesn't play well with est standards.
3 - Its not integrated into Windows. I've seen patches for IE go south. When they do they break the browser. Since the damn thing is integrated into Windows you can't simply uninstall the app and reinstall it to start over. I've actually tried working with MS on a broken system last year to get it up and running after a combined IE sec patch made IE blow up on certain pages. In the end after an hour on the phone with them they recommended redoing the user's system. With FireFox if I want to start over I simply uninstall the app and reinstall. I don't even need to reboot! So lets see. A 5 minute fix vs. a 2 hour fix. Which would you prefer?
4-Firefox extensions makes IE look like a toddler trying to go to Harvard. *pat pat pat* Isn't it so cute. Sorry did I say cute? I meant retarded. The extensions engine allows plugins that IE simply can't compete with. Couple that with the search engine that can be extended, (I use UPS all day long to track IT shipments.) and FireFox's themeing abilities and IE is simply outclassed and outgunned in features.
5- Built in popup blockers. Yes you can get them for IE. But frankly nothing is as satisfying as not having to go out and look for addins to complete your system. Popup blockers should have been added to IE years ago.
6- Cross the board OS support. Want IE 6 with built in popup blocker? Oops gotta have XP SP2. Want the upcoming IE 7? Oops gotta have XP again.
Want FireFox? Name your OS and there is probably a distribution for it.
7- Doesn't support active X. This is a bane to those who make adware/spyware and proprietary MS pages. Is this suppose to be a bad thing!?! :p
8- Patch installs dont require reboots. Install and you are done. With IE its that whole integration thing again. The OS has dll files in use and usually will require a reboot to replace and reinitialize those files.
9- This goes back to #2 but it cant be stressed enough. By telling IE to take a hike you are saying yes to open standards. When you use IE, website admins can see you are using IE and thus cater to it and its proprietary nature. Look at many banking institutions that are built using a quick and dirty FrontPage extension plugin or something. Ive actually seen web sites start to change now that FF has come on the scene. They know that their visitors arent seeing the site right so they carter to web standards which means no matter what OS you are on you will get a working site. Think of it as building good Karma. IMHO using a browser like Firefox is like recycling. Its a good thing.

OK...I finally took the plunge and bought an entire new system (New Dual 1 gig and a 17" Apple LCD).
I have to say, I'd been holding out for a 19", but decided it was time to buy anyway.
Let me just say that I LOVE this 17" monitor. I like the form factor, I like the brightness, etc. I had been using a dual CRT monitor set up with a 17" CRT and an old 13" Apple RGB, so I booted the 13" and now am using dual with the 17" Apple LCD and my old Trinitron 17" CRT. Side by side, I can't believe how much more I like the LCD.
Personally, this is enough screen real estate for me. In fact, rather than buy the 23", I prefer two of these 17" LCD's side by side. I can't say why, I just like the aesthetic of double monitors, and the separation it provides. It allows me to "group" things that just works for me.
My one complaint about the Apple LCD is that it doesn't tilt forward far enough; it leans back a hair too much for my taste. But, by using a small .5 inch thick piece of neoprene under the back foot, I've managed to tilt it to the perfect position.
Just thought I'd share my review.
