I don't see what the big deal is. Of course Apple is going to try to minimize the risk of the jailbreak community. They want to avoid headlines about spyware and such that creep out of the jailbroken community. It's just good PR.

Apple is one greedy corporation that just loves to attack.. typical of the coming corporate takeover of humanity.
What are you talking about - how does this related to this store? It only shows that Apple was smart enough to plan ahead to make sure they get the components they need - not their fault that other companies lack any planing (or don't understand the market) and don't order in time what they need. Followers have to take what is left.

Please don't mess with the keyboard. The Macbook keyboard wouldn't suit the Macbook Pro.

I'd be happy if it was the same enclosure with a Merom CPU and an upgraded GPU - ATI X1800 or nVidia 7700 would be nice.
A longer-life battery would be nice but I can't see it happening due to weight.

I think the iphone 5 will be a minor upgrade. If you are fine with the processor in iphone 4 and in the middle of a contact, then its probably better to wait for iphone 6.

Makes no sense to put these in Macbook so soon. Macbook Pro, yes, but not the macbook. Apple have always differentiated the two lines, the fact that current Macbooks are comparable to the Pros is just plain luck and won't last long, IMO.
You are reasoning from apple's history but it's all different now. The problem with this logic is that since Dell, HP and Gateway will be using the merom in consumer computers and apple is using the same chips as everyone else they have to use merom too or appear to be behind in the technology.

If Apple get it right it will be the fashion phone of choice.
What will be really great is that, in addition to the above, something that is the critical factor as it was with iPod, it will also sync beautifully with Apple contacts, calendars, etc., driving more people to purchase Apple computers, even though I do expect that they will also bundle a nice piece of Windows software (a must).
Apples are already climbing in sales and many of my Windows-using friends are considering Macs for the first time now, not because of all the stuff endlessly debated here, but rather because the iMac and MacBooks are so bitchin'.
Steve Jobs is indeed finally capitalizing on "taste", an obcession of his from the early days. He was right when he said in the 80s that "the problem with Microsoft is that they have no taste. I mean that in a big sense." Now his company is poised to take a large portion of Microsoft's sales by exploiting that vulnerability.
People aren't realizing that OS X is better. They are falling in love with the new stylish Macs, obscure objects of desire. The fact that they are getting better and better, and that they are making a line of easily interoperable products (much more of this to come in the coming 12 months - media center, phone, and maybe even a UPMC) that just make life easier is just a plus that will help to sustain the brand.

This would be an excellent move for enterprise. I've already been told I'm not getting Mac Pros into our data center. At best I can hope for a couple of Mac minis, but that's a pretty big compromise on both my end and our data center manager's.
It would also be a great move for desktop users, especially if it eliminates the laser-cut, hand-slicing "carry" handles. Ever tried to move one of those things between rooms, floors or buildings? I can't help wondering what TV forensics would make of the resulting lacerations.

I can't believe all of the arrogant Mac users! �The mighty OSX never gets viruses therefore I'm not going to use that garbage.� Just keep that attitude up, it'll bite you in the ass eventually.
In the meantime, as the Mac user we have some responsibility not to spread Windows viruses to PCs when technology is there.
I use this and I like it. It doesn't slow down my Mac a bit.

I am curious tho, if people placed their orders now and lets say the new mbp comes out on the 19th, then how will they adjust the specs and price for the one you ordered and the one that ships? Will they contact you ahead of time or just send you a similar spec based on your price?

What Microsoft has doesn't transfer to the tablet market. Ok, they have cash. They have enough money to give away 80 million tablets. If they do that, over the next three years, the cash is gone, and Apple + Android will still sell more units :D
Distribution channel? What distribution channel does Microsoft have for hardware? They don't. Zune was a failure. XBox and tablets are two completely different markets.
The developers are writing iPhone / iPad apps.
And how would Microsoft go about "leveraging the desktop"? People throw out computers and buy an iPad. People don't say "well, I have a Windows PC, I will buy a Microsoft tablet to go with it". They say "well, I have a Windows PC, I will buy an iPad so I can get rid of that old PC".

MS has probably one of the widest distribution channels on the consumer and enterprise markets...BTW, Im not saying they should make MS hardware, just the OS. Streaming aside, I like how my kindle books sync to ALL of my devices from Amazon's cloud. Obviously DRM is annoying, but this seems to be a cool direction to go in for other media as well. Add streaming for music (maybe video) and it is perfect. You can download or stream anything you own. Have Apple implement the end user GUI app and we're set. You are all right to point out the impending data transfer price hell coming from our wireless carriers.

I don't know about completely free and with all the same features available now. Free would probably bog mobile me down to a joke status and even now I would hardly call mobile me performance stellar. Perhaps tiered pricing and plans would be more suitable.
However I believe Apple could and should lower the price. I have been using Mobile Me since itools and have been paying the $100 a year Apple tax for the past 5+ years. Well sort of... The first year year hooked me in at $49 and I got another couple years on discounted terms. The progression of itools>.mac>mobile me has seem many improvements and added features, but really come on!! $100 a year for services that you could get for free or half off is pretty steep, sure the integration and seamlessness is nice but its far from perfect.
I have actually been planing to cancel my mobile me plan for the last two years but both times auto renew and laziness sucked me back in. All I know is that this year will most likely be my last unless Apple dramatically improves performance, adds more features, or drops the price. After all itools used to be Free and was an added benefit of using a mac.

Wow... Imagine an 11 inch MacBook Air with the resolution of a much bigger monitor... Or imagine a MacBook Pro that can display all of Photoshop's annoying panels without having to collapse them all the time... Or simply viewing photos with loads more detail! Good stuff!

Every single major Apple product runs on a yearly refresh, with a couple of months either side to handle any possible delays.

Good post. I'm still waiting for a phone that will easily (and thoroughly) sync with my Address Book and iCal, and I'm on the mac platform. So even some of the features you describe would be of immediate value to a lot of mac users.
My experience with Symbian (Series 60) is that it does a very thorough sync'ing using iSync.... and of course there are many, many phones that do at least a loosely passable job... even my cute but dumb RAZR. Are you serious or joking?
