Based on the benchmarks of the 1.25GHz DDR G4, I'd venture to say that we still do not have a full implementation of DDR memory, though a full implementation of DDR memory would provide little or no boost in most processes. I think that we are merely seeing the advantage of a 166MHz system bus, as opposed to the 133MHz bus that we saw for so long.

is it me, or does macrumors seem more impersonal these days?
while some of the back and forth from the old days like john123 vs spikey and kela, or alphatech vs newbies were sometimes not very friendly, people here had a community and were familiar with each other
now that macrumors is approaching 20,000 members, is there still the same sense of community?
..or does it seem weird because i am the last person standing from macrumor's first six months and from the first year there are perhaps less than half a dozen of us?

How come nobody is asking for a solar powered PowerBook that recharges in the dark?
Wouldn't that solve the battery life problems related to all those gadgets you want stuffed into a limited space?
Note: I would have said nuclear powered, but I didn't think people would like nuking their nads.

However, you can't buy a Macintosh version of the 4Ti 4200.
Since nVidia doesn't create anything but the reference video cards, various companies create the actual retail and OEM versions. Apple is one of the OEMs and they really don't see any reason to put money into a weaker card. Two levels (for the PowerMacs) is enough. Perhaps, if one of the smaller Windows video card players were interested in a small market, they could be convinced to sell and support their cards.

Well, it's a time bug... if you switch back your system's clock to the serial will work.
Tried it before. Doesn't solve anything.

I really like the feature that keeps the games/movies from auto loading. It got pretty annoying every time I started up the system and I didn't want to use what was already in the drive.
However, I was saddened to see that the update did not include the much anticipated DVD "up-scaler". Perhaps this will be in future additions of the Fimware?

I just installed Darwin 6.0.2 on a P3 running @ 733 Mhz, and also the same build on a dual 533 MHz G4. The actual installation took twice as much time on the Pentium.
Both OS's had XFree running as the only gui, so I think the real question would be:
WILL AQUA EVER COME TO THE X86?
The Aqua gui is what we all really love, with all the i-Apps.
(I sure hope not!)('')
You can get the installers here:

we should have a poll sometime about which browser you use. I'm sure we've had them in the past but with the progress firefox has been making it would be interesting to see the differences. I'm using safari since it works fine for me and i don't find any noticeable speed difference than firefox, plus i like the look of it better. but if firefox does anything drastically cool i might switch and try it for awhile.
added: i checked out the new build. It looks good however i use tabs a lot and i like to close them with the little x in safari. is there any way to get that on firefox?
thanks

I'm sorry, I just don't know what the appeal was about this game?
I have to make my own food sometimes, so why the freak would I want to play a game based on a task I don't particularly enjoy?

ummm, the end of the world will come when Apple has some real power.

BECAUSE JAGUAR IS NOT AS RELIABLE, FLEXIBLE, COMPATIBLE AND FRIENDLY THAN OS 9 !!! [/B]
I agree with MyMemory that Jaguar is not:
1) As compatible
2) As friendly
3) As fast (I added this one)
... as Mac OS 9
HOWEVER, it's certainly more reliable and flexible. This is especially true from a developer's standpoint.
Given the maturity of OS 9's interface, it's not at all surprising that OS X is lagging a bit on the usability front. The devil is in the details and any programmer knows how much complexity actually goes into the details.
But, the fact is that OS 9 was a dead end for Apple. There are only so many hacks you can get away with before they start to catch up with you. While OS X lags a bit now, it will progress much faster than anything built on 9 could and we will all be better off a year or so down the road.

Well, WEP is kind of junk, as know, but I think the general reasons for using encryption above access control are:
1) Packets can be sniffed and analyzed to give access to sensitive info when just MAC is used (not too relevant to DS)
2) Packets can be sniffed and the MAC address can be extracted and spoofed (more of an issue).
Makes sense, wasn't occuring to me that the packets would obviously not be encrypted then.
I'll probably play with WEP then. The two together should be plenty for me. Doubt I am close to many network hackers anyway...

trying to extrapolate the total wattage of the psu from the stated max current is silly. let's grab some numbers from spare psus i've got laying around... all numbers are for 100-125v, mostly 115v though:
dve 150w: 4a
astec 160w: 5a
sparkle 235w: 7a
macase 250w: 8a
fki/enhance(iirc) 250w: 6a
deer/l&c 250w: 6a
emacs 250w(redundant): 6a
sparkle 350w: 10a
pcp&c 5/700w: 10a
notice a tight (ie, something that can be used as a point to reason from) mathematical correlation here? what's that? no, neither do i, really. but i can easily go pull a dozen more sample points...
In other words, READ THE WORDs PRINTED ON THE POWER SUPPLY and stop trying to use formulas.
The XServe Power Supply does not equal one from a Mirror Mac (IT FEEDS the MONITOR in addition to the computer).
And if you don't understand what I'm saying then ...
